seth, budget magic is the best. when i first started playing magic again i was so broke and you helped me out (and so many other people I'm sure) by giving us fun, cheap decks every week. thank you!
This deck uses a very similar strategy to a Dungeons and Dragons monk. "If you kick your opponent three or four times every turn, they'll go down eventually."
Thomas Jackson two bubble snares and a sproutling for a 3 of? It can function as a more direct removal spell to get rid of static abilities especially in a deck with 16 creatures. Not to mention how much better instant speed is and versatile the inscriptions are generally. Oh also most importantly I am not updated on prices but I imagine the green inscription might make this deck non budget in paper.
@@thomasjackson2737 I'm not sure, but maybe 4 copies of the 3/3 is not needed, maybe cut 2 of that and run 2 copies of the inscription. But the deck honestly looked pretty good already.
So far it appears no one is even playing this deck in draft, at least based on how late I've seen Roost of Drakes going around. I saw one 11th pick the other day and was cursing the fact that I was hopelessly locked into another archetype. Card is absolutely bananas.
This was made before the release where streamers and others had special access to the full set before release on arena so no meta decking from the internet.
What would the additions be for a modern version of this deck? (I use themed kitchen table decks so it doesn't need to actually be modern competitive, just using that as a framing) Cards I've identified as possibilities (would love to hear folks opinions on which of these would actually be useful in the deck): Main Includes: Vines of Vastwood Territorial Allosaurus Rite of Replication (I feel like copying the kicked Verazol version of this would be beyond insane, fun enough to add as a 1 of) Possible Includes: Gift of Growth (Vines of Vastwood seems to already do enough for a combat trick that this wouldn't cut it) Gruun, the Lonely King Untamed Kavu Elfhame Druid (is ramp not great since the stats don't match well with the tempo) Grow from the Ashes (Can't tell if it would be better/worse than current ramp, doesn't have the +1/+1 kick benefit, so seems worse) Any feedback or replacements would be appreciated!
Thanks, I didn't know Kicker was used again in that period. (Untamed Kavu seems a bit too close to the original Titan.) May I ask why you limit yourself to the 8th edition style cards since you are just playing it as a game? (the original Kicker series have fun cards.)
Had an idea earlier today for a Trample Tribal Standard deck with stuff like Garruk’s Uprising, Quartzwood Crasher, Warden of the Chained and Proud Wildbonder. Include stuff like Lithoform Engine to double up Crasher triggers or even your creatures as well Embercleave because why not. Throw in some mana dorks to get your big beaters out faster and some Turntimber Symbiosis for lategame haymakers.
didnt you punt game 7 by into the roil on thassa? not only was she not a creature at the time, if you pick up the thassa's oracle, she definitely wouldnt be, aka - you have 2 attackers, they have no blockers and no mana and -3 life after combat? or am i missing something? (50:48)
I guess the non-budget version would swap Uros in for the chronicler? He also provides card draw, a bit of ramp, and buffers your life total in the early game to help get you to the late game where your value engine picks up. And you'll occasionally cast him late game.
What do you think about building a mono black aristocrats? I think that's pretty "budget". We've got bastion of remembrance, the relic that has the same effect if you own a cleric, and woe strider/village rites as sacrifice outlets. Mana is a little awkward without blood crypt but I think there's something there.
I am so excited for Verazol commander. As a long time Hallar player, I am stoked for new kicks and Verazol seems to have a very strong alternative kicker commander. While Hallar give a win condition based on your commander, Verazol is more straight value
I have to say though as far as arena decks go the fact that all the cards come from one set means you are less likely to have to use wildcards. As long as you are buying zendikar packs to fill your collection youll be making progress on this deck cause its so ZDR heavy.
There are none rares as pretty good replacements - lullmage's familiar, counterspells (neutralize), Gnarlid pack, cunning geysermage, tazeem roilmage :)
I was waiting patiently for 9 pm mst for an alert saying you uploading a video and was upset when I never saw an upload by 11pm. I was scrolling through my feed and found out that you had uploaded earlier today and am now annoyed at youtube for not alerting me when you uploaded a video
I thought it was a good component with interesting variety (colours different from the card, no mana costs) in Magic despite some overpriced effects, the lack of other cards rewarding their usage wasn't a problem since the bonus effect was kind of the goal of the mechanic. What was the reason for it being uninteresting back then? Here, we have several effects based around kicker but a lack of variety (limited to a single series) and even more overpriced kicker costs.
The new Jace seems like a perfect fit, I'm gonna try that in a non budget version. Only 7 cards in the full 75 that are over 4cmc, also just imagine kicking a Jace with Verasol out!!! Hmm do you get 3 Jaces or 4?.
Yeah! I'm excited to explore Cleric some more. They seem really fun, and they should continue to get better over the next year (especially once the D&D set releases).
I honestly couldn't come up with many non-budget options. I thought about adding stuff like Uro because its powerful, but it didn't really seem to fit what the deck is trying to do.
I. Not sure if its a glitch or ruling. But it copies jace. And you get three. Scry, land, draw, Scry. Each turn. It pretty sweet. Then if you see the money then draw it. Super sweet. And broken.
Well...there is Riku (the Temur Commander) to use as placeholder until the day WotC realizes that EDH players would love a Temur Commander that is Kicker-focused.
I'm gonna be honest, ever so slightly annoyed that he not even once used autopay for the kicker land, even when he was using all his mana XD #slightinconvenience
Not only did seth miss the chance to call the deck "Here's the Kicker" but he had a chance to say it so many times like when the opponent kept using heartless act he could have said well here is the kicker opponent i got more haha
this archetype will be refined for sure. Inscription tempo destroys some decks by itself and with all this cheap token generation is a legit wincon enough.
I feel like the party mechanic could be a decent mechanic to build arroud, but they executed it pretty poorly with this 2 cards that can be everything. They should have print double clases "bears" for every wedge: BU rogue wizard, WR priest warrior... I don't know how they didn't came with this, what they did seems just lacy development of the idea.
My big problem with calling this deck 'budget' on Arena is that almost all of the rares are only usable in this deck, so each wild card used kinda hurts. The Temples are fine, but almost all of the others are exclusive.
As a budget deck, this looks super sweet...unfortunately, the deck looks like it folds real hard to Ugin...probably can't beat the Four Color Omnath deck because of it. Maybe after something from the deck is banned, I'm hopeful because I'd love to play this.
Cheap in physical form, but on Magic Arena this is one expensive B rate deck. Needs almost 20 something rares. For a free to player, that's opening around 100 packs worth of wild cards.

mangakuma, what an absolute king for the gg AND letting Saffron play it out.
I wonder how this deck would look like in Historic with Dominaria kicker cards.
Or Modern, with Multikicker cards and the Zendikar kicker cards.
@#1 George you realize if you copy a kicked fight with fire its gg right?
The dream ZNR draft deck, now in Standard!
Speaking of draft decks, the rw cycling deck is definitely worth a revisit now
Yeah, that does seem like a good one to revisit in new Standard since it's so cheap.
I guess you can say your opponents were, kicking themselves for not seeing this deck coming.
Summary of video: Seth kicks opponents until they die.
Just by name alone, "Mardu Party" sounds like a legitimate deck in constructed.
This deck uses a very similar strategy to a Dungeons and Dragons monk. "If you kick your opponent three or four times every turn, they'll go down eventually."
It's even got the incidental healing thrown in
Vine Grecko 😂 that's not even a hard one Seth

So it needs Uro...but that'll add $120 to the total
I got good news for you.
What about Incription of Abundance? Synergizes really well with Verazol
It also helps stabilize with the lifegain, which seems very important for this deck after watching the games
Oh, my God. I LOVE this deck
Me too! It's super fun to play!
And you haven't even add a Uro into the mix :p
The biggest surprise is how you managed to dodge 4C omnath piles. 11/15 of my last games was omnath.

Yeah, this was on early access day, so it was before Uro/Omnath/Ugin took over.

Vines of Vastwood
Territorial Allosaurus
Rite of Replication (I feel like copying the kicked Verazol version of this would be beyond insane, fun enough to add as a 1 of)
Possible Includes:
Gift of Growth (Vines of Vastwood seems to already do enough for a combat trick that this wouldn't cut it)
Gruun, the Lonely King
Untamed Kavu
Elfhame Druid (is ramp not great since the stats don't match well with the tempo)
Grow from the Ashes (Can't tell if it would be better/worse than current ramp, doesn't have the +1/+1 kick benefit, so seems worse)
