The Alpha Jay Show reviews animation episodes, animated TV movies, cartoons, and other things as a main series. I have reviewed many things from Fairly Oddparents to SpongeBob to Teen Titans Go to The Amazing World Of Gumball and many more. SHOW SUMMARY
Cowabunga, dude! The Turtles are back. Leonardo, Donatello, Raphael and Michelangelo are four mutant turtles, trained in the art of "ninjutsu" by their sensei, Master Splinter. The animated series explores their camaraderie as they learn to rely on one another as they unravel the mystery of their existence and train to become the heroes they are destined to be. And they're doing all that while trying to defeat Master Shredder, an old enemy of Splinter who is training a peculiar band of ninjas while hiding in New York City. When they are in the surface world, the Turtles become involved in a conspiracy involving alien creatures, robotic droids and missing scientists. It was a pretty damn good reboot. It was so very awesome! I loved its mixture of lighthearted comedy with serious story lines.

I absolutely adored TMNT 2012 and a nitpick I had with this video is with Mikey trying to describe his attack against the Kraang is how he "couldn't form a sentence properly". Mikey was revealed to canonically have ADHD and he has a hard time dealing with it.
I'm not sure if you'd consider the wiki as evidence, but I went and looked up the signs of having ADHD and Mikey falls under all of them:
Fails to give close attention to details or makes careless mistakes in schoolwork, work, or other activities.
Has difficulty sustaining attention in tasks or play activities.
Does not seem to listen when spoken to directly.
Does not follow through on instructions and fails to finish schoolwork, chores, or duties in the workplace (not due to oppositional behavior or failure to understand instructions).

Avoids, dislikes, or is reluctant to engage in tasks that require sustained mental effort (such as schoolwork or homework).

There's also the fact that the co-executive producer is Ciro Nieli, who has stated that one of his characters from a show he made a while back is autistic. Ciro could've had development in aiding in Mikey having ADHD.
Nicole Riso hmmm....that makes sense
I always thought so, as someone who has ADD myself, Mikey did feel like he had it too. And they portray it rather well in all honesty. Both its strengths and weaknesses. Mikey can be a space cadet at times and slip up, is sometimes loud and easily distracted, but the guy wields nunchaku and extremely skilled with possibly the hardest weapon to master out of all four of them. The ability to really focus and be that disciplined in learning something like that is something that others tend to underestimate people with ADD/ADHD being able to do.
Also this is just a personal fan theory I have, but I actually think that Mikey is secretly smarter than he gives himself credit for in the 2012 show. And if he is supposed to have ADD/ADHD it could be a reflection on how everyone tells him to stop being dumb or goofy that he doesn't give himself credit. But I do think if given the chance he could prove to be just as or almost as smart as Donnie, just in a different way.
The reasons I have this theory are from very few and passing moments sprinkled throughout the show, but they're convincing enough for me. Like when Mikey in one episode suggest to Raph to trace April's and Casey's cellphones when they couldn't find them; except he describes how it works rather than straight up saying it. Another episode he mentions how he has a photographic memory and then proves it. And finally, he figures out how to make retro mutantgent in a matter of minutes, where it took Donnie months to transform a single vial.

As a hardcore Michelangelo fan, I can say I agree with you about him. In the first two episodes, Mikey really WAS pretty annoying.Yeah, he was funny and cute, but there wasn't much else. It's a good thing later on in the series, they made Mikey into an actual
character. He's not just the comic relief. He turns into the sympathetic and friendly one, always trying to help. He calms down
Raph and was the first one to give Leatherhead a chance. He even turns out to be the one who can detect who's secretly bad by just looking at them, which turns into his lowest point when his brothers don't believe him FOR THE HUNDREDTH TIME just because he's goofy and tries to make them smile, but screws up in the process. I'm glad they made Mikey better in the end.
Casey Wilde I know this is late and all but Mikey saved everyone countless times, like with the Wasp infection, Dimension X etc.

Not really, the TMNT 2012 is more on the level of 2003 Teen Titans. Teen Titans Go! should have been more like Rise Of TMNT

i didnt catch every episode, but the 2012 version is "my version" of TMNT. It is the first one that comes to mind and the first one id recommend. It feels like one of the few TMNTs that actually cares more about creating a compelling story than selling toys, though the art direction could be attributed to a part of it.

I so agree, and one of the best reasons they can do that is 1 they are willing to take risks, such as April’s dad turning into a mutant… twice and 2 they made the characters more compelling than before, Mikey is more of a defined character than “the surfer dude” Leo is really given a reason to care other than just being the leader, Raph is being aggressive to prove something to splinter, and Donnie is just one of most like-able characters now
P.S. some of Donnie’s traits were taken from raph like the outbursts and such but it’s not distracting and it doesn’t hurt his personality in any way.
I agree. It was the TMNT show I grew up with and I'm tired of the older kids shaming me for liking this version and not the 2003 version. Let me like what I like!

I feel the point about Mikey was that even though he's a goof ball, he does know when to take things seriously, it's just hard for the others to take him seriously, plus, this was their first real mission, so his brothers not taking him seriously just shows how inexperience they all really are.
Also I genuinely have this weird fan theory that Mikey in the 2012 show is actually almost on the same level of intelligence as Donnie, just that he doesn't think the same way.

@@elijahb30 Moments like that, the way he absorbs information, the fact that he has proven he has a photographic memory. Heck, he arguably has one of the hardest weapons to master, as nunchucks would take an incredible amount of hand eye coordination.

I liked everyone but April in this series. She's super op. Physic ninja in training. Can control and see through the eyes of mutants. Has telekinetic blasts.
She also toyed around with Casey and Donotello a lot. It got annoying after a while.
I thought she was alright
She was cooler when she had her psychic powers later in the show which kinda reminded me of eleven from Stranger Things. I really like "The Power Inside Her" episode. It was pretty epic.
One thing I hate about 2012 is how Mikey is being mistreated a lot and even after many times where stuff that Mikey says is actually true, Mikey is still not taken seriously
Well, they developed his character pretty great in tmnt 2012. He defeated dracula, he defeated kavaxas and shredder. He sacrificed himself in season 5 world collide episode. He survived tho.

2012 TMNT is my favorite series of the turtles.
EDIT: This is my opinion. The 2003 TMNT series is my second favorite series of turtles.

SNGameplay YT I think this happens with every show. The original tmnt fans were in outrage when tmnt 2003 was released because they changed everything. No bebop and rocksteady or krang. And then Eastman sold the rights of tmnt to Nickelodeon when there was gonna be a season 8 for 2003. The show has more ideas but Eastman decided to stop everything. So naturally the 2003 fans got angry and hated the new animation for 2012.
The same pattern is happening. 2012 fans are getting angry and hating on rise of the tmnt. The 2012 fans want their show back when the new rise of the tmnt has been released. The 2003 fans wanted their show back when 2012 was released.
I'm currently watching this series, almost done with season 3. I'm really enjoying this series,but I think the only thing I get annoyed is the exhausting love triangle between Casey,Donnie and April and that I wish I can care about April a lot more.

It's so uncomfortable when show the seems to romanticize or make cute moments between leo and Karai, because they're related after the reveal that karai is Spilnters daughter.
Almost everybody I've come across was a bit uncomfortable with the Leorai romance so you're not alone. But I personally feel it wasn't that bad because yeah Karai is Splinter's daughter but Leo and them are his adopted son and they didnt know they were technically related and didnt grow up together so its fine. At least to me

This show was gorgeous and my number one favorite version of TMNT especially a few of the character designs and personalities.

I got into the show in middle school, but stopped watching it around I think the third season. Now that I've graduated high school I'm finding myself getting back into the series lol (though I never stopped loving it, I just stopped watching it).

Officially, yes. Nickelodeon has confirmed that it is non-canon, and they made Wanted: Bebop and Rocksteady the official series finale instead.
Logically? Yes. It has severe continuity problems that prevent it from fitting into the main storyline. It could have been a pretty darn good AU, though, if the writing and character design had been better. Definitely below the standard this show had previously set.
According to the show runners? It depends. Ciro Nieli wanted it to be the official ending.....for very dubious reasons. Brandon Auman eventually said that it's up to audience interpretation.
Ultimately? It's up to you. It is a fantasy cartoon after all. I am quite happy in the AU camp :)

The thing about TMNT is that it’s always had reboots. The same goes for Transformers and MLP. Those shows were designed to sell toys so their companies have always found ways to revamp the shows.

But Splinter and the Fugitoid died making Earth's last stand episode (The scene where Splinter stops Shredder from killing him) making it somewhat atrocious. Aleoplex shows up for one episode also Karai's random control over her snake form is never mentioned or even heard from anyone else

This is just my Opinion about the show, that's all.
Bo-Rad Da Nomad ya but it was still never explained. I thought she was becoming more snake like? And losing her mind too. But I guess the writers just scraped that idea.
I completely agree with you, Mikey definitely could have had a lot more layers to him then just comic relief in the first two episodes. He does appear to be a liability to the team multiple times, but he is still my favorite turtle because of other episodes such as Parisitica where he ends to be just a bit smarter than the show lets on. I also love certain moments where Mikey’s empathetic nature really shines through, like with the hug he gave to Raph in season 2 episode 26. He does become a bit more than comic relief eventually but I do agree that his character annoyed (although also amused) me a bit during the first episodes.
2003 Turtles show (along with the 90's live action movies) is the reason why I even became a nostalgic Turtles fan! I would say that the 2003 cartoon is easily the most overlooked cartoon out of all of them; even though the problems the series suffered from post season 5 practically destroyed what was awesome about the early seasons of the show.
Daniel Olynick your right. 2003 was closer to the comics. Didn’t ignore canon. Better villains, characters, storytelling, and it was the darkest most complex version of tmnt. 2012 coming close but didn’t have the kind of depth in storytelling 2003 did.
I wouldn't neccesarily say 03 had depth. Also almost everyone who talks about 03 says it's the best version so I wouldn't really call it underrated.
I loved this show, I remember watching it and enjoying it with my dad.
I was too young to watch all of/really get invested in the 2003 version but I still liked it.
Anyway, this is overall my favorite version of the turtle and everything about it happy.

Ikr? For the longest time, I thought I was the only one my age who loved it (I started watching it in 5th-6th grade and stopped around 10th). It's making me so happy to see people reviewing it in a positive way.
TMNT 2012 is my favourite series because the characters are awesome and some of the plot was pretty funny and really good Raph and Mikey are my favourite characters.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2012 is one of my favorite tv shows ever on nickelodeon. At first, I wasn't into the turtles, but when this version showed up on the channel, I started loving it compared to the other versions which I wasn't that interested in. I grew up watching this version since high school when it premiered. They made great stories with memorable characters, challenging villains, funny dialogues, bigger stories through later seasons. Each season went from bigger to bigger to deeper to darker. When I rank this show with all the other nickelodeon shows, it's my number three favorite. My favourite character is Michelangelo which made nunchucks my favorite weapon. Doing martial arts inspired me from this show. I highly recommend who hasn't watched the turtles yet should give the 2012 version a try first.

Teenage mutant ninja turtles 2012 is a great show. As someone who watched since the start of season 2, I always liked the atmosphere and darken stuff they did like in some episodes it’s wacky like Wingnut.
Slash, Leatherhead and all of those characters that are kinda secondary are amazing in the next seasons.
Splinter’s scenes are always the best. The invasion and other episodes with him battling Shredder are epic.
I lost interest by the time of the space arc was over.

TMNT (2012) had great characters, great visuals, an amazing theme, had the guts to kill Splinter off on camera 2 times, had amazing characters and funny jokes and the show is just good overall

MARCUS THE STICKMAN I don’t think so. A lot of old school turtle fan liked the 2012 show. Quite a few even consider this is the best. It’s really between this and the 2003 show. Because the 87 is just too goofy.
It managed to stay on Nick for 4 full 26 episodes season. And it’s still gathering over 1,5-2 million views in S3 and 4. In comparison to other Nick shows on its time, look at Korra. Didn’t even finished the 3rd season. 4th season was streaming only.

One thing I'd really like of this series is that it could get so dark sometimes that you forgot you were watching a children's show, especially in the later seasons, and that the writters don't take kids as stupid or something, but just as capable of understand or enjoy those moments. (Well, sometimes there were just dumb plots and moments that made you facepalm but it wasn't much of them)
And I see several people complain about the Tales, idk that season was ok for me. The Usagi arc was just amazing, as well as lone rat and cubes and when worlds collide. And for what I've understood, those arcs aren't 100% canon so you can take it or leave it.
This show was so good, it has it flaws but they knew how to end it with dignity. I would rate it 8.5\10. And now I just hope for a crossover with the Rise turtles, it would be veey cool.

I LOVED 2012 tmnt! I really liked that it had some comedy, but really it was more of a drama. There are many things I missed as a 12 year old, but looking back I do notice them. I’m glad that it never went over comedic though. Eventually we got some good development for each character and it just made my day.
This show is why I loved TMNT. I have a lot of merch from this show, hood a special place in my heart.

Agreed. They barely did anything with Karai after season 2 and Leo had an awful voice change. Half the season was just mutants again. They make all these useless mutants appear that never show up again. Tmnt 2012 is all mutants. That’s basically what every episode revolves around. This road demon, chimera, the frogs, April’s mom mutant thing, the dream beavers, big foot. That’s a lot of mutants and they appear only 1 time. That’s why I dislike 2012. Every episode revolves around mutants or a mutant I should say. And it gets boring. Season 3 wasn’t awful but it had some stupid episodes like the one where they go in a trash can and use it as a decoy and hide in it next to shredders lair. Then a hobo gets on the toilet and farts and Mikey talks about Choco logs. That was just plain stupid lol. Something that weird would not happen in 2003. The space episodes were pretty boring for me. All this immature raph and Mona Lisa dating crap. I liked when the fugitoid sacrificed himself and didn’t tell anyone he was gonna do it and Leo yelled at him. A few of the episodes were good but not that many. Then they made this pointless kavaxus villain come out from nowhere and he is a demon dragon. Ultimate Draco was a better villain in my opinion. I liked the episode where don got really mad and went after that mutant gangster fat guy. But it seemed strange for him to get that mad at the end of the show. Season 1 and season 2 got me hooked and I really enjoyed them but after season 2 was over the show was bad for me. Too many mutants and kraang all the time. I guess some People were fine with that and that’s okay. It just wasn’t my cup of tea. I prefer more realistic darker episodes. And 2003 seemed to have more of that. They tried to make 2012 better by the end of season 4 by having splinter die but by then I was just bored of the show. But at least it’s not as bad as rise of the tmnt. That show depends on mutants for storytelling too and there’s no continuity. 2012 had continuity at least. There probably won’t be any shows like tmnt 2003 or tmnt 2012 for a while.

I absolutely LOVED this series. There a lot of things I didnt like of course, like the many random mutant pop ups and the whole April, Donnie, and Casey triangle. The storyline is weird I guess? But then I look closer at their relationships with each other and their personalities, and that's why I love the show. It makes you feel their flaws, their strengths, and how you can relate to the characters in some way. I love this reboot sooooo much
My opinion on 2012 seasons are
1: Good
2: Better
3: Fine (The beginning was adorable)
4: Meh (There were some cute episodes 🥺)
5: Fine (Leo was my fav turtle so I liked him being sensei and being more serious. But I absolutely HATED the ending- it needs an actual ending)

I loved this and Teen Titans as a little kid, I also liked Adventure Time and shows directed at little kids (such as sesame street).
What makes 2012 so good, was because of the fact that there was a serious deep connection between Splinter and the Shredder compared to the others. There hasn't even been much of a connection between them in the original and was far more comic relief than this version. In my opinion the connection between Splinter and the Shredder revolves around the entire series.... Well, season 5 wasn't, but you know if you seen it all XD
I loved the show when it was airing. I begged for some action figures for Christmas. Once I opened one I took Ralph or Leo’s weapon and painstakingly unwrapped the rest of the presents with it. My parents were recording and was like hey Waffles, use your hands and not a itty bitty sword 😂
Lost the figures sadly but they were a really nice gift. I just wish they kept the animation style like this in the others. It just looks so much cooler and the turtles look awesome. The others are but the gloomy 3D style really added to the atmosphere. Wish they did more environment animations with it though.
I personally liked TMNT 2012. Don't know why people were talking crap about it lately.

To be honest, I wish a lot of people that constantly praises the 2012 series would also watch the 2k3 series instead of the Rise series. The first five seasons have such great moments, the action scenes are fantastic, plotlines that do get expanded upon, and just some dark themes. This was on 4Kids mind you.

Seasons 6-7 were made just to merchandise as every character got a toy in Fast Forward and Back To The Sewer.

Rise OF the Tmnt is by far the goofiest but it's still great.
Now 1987 is simply amazing as well but the continuity in story and all over the place makes 2k3 my favorite I love 1987 second because it's my first turtle iteration
TMNT 2012 a CG animated series that aired on Nickelodeon. The most Animesque take yet, full of Manga Effects and other Japanese visual humor. It's somewhat Younger and Hipper - the Turtles act more like adolescents and several human characters have been aged down - but it still has dark moments. Narratively, the series draws heavily from the '87 cartoon and original live-action movies, but with long-running story arcs and other story elements inspired by other continuities.

Season 1: A nostalgic masterpiece
Season 2: just good
Season 3: Garbage
Season 4: Disappointing
Season 5: HOT garbage
Fandom_Stuck season 2 I didn’t think it was the best, somethings just didn’t make sense. I mean when April’s father jumped in to protect April from the falling mutagen canister turning him into a bat mutant April starts blaming the turtles for this for what happened to her father. However mutagen would not have mutated her father had he known the mutagen doesn’t effect April. It was April’s responsibility to tell her father that she is immune to the effects of the mutagen had this happened April’s father wouldn’t have jumped in to save her. Now if you look at the whole situation it’s as if the writers wanted to have this be a plot point to rush in a new character mutant in the show. I really wish that thought one through, but yes there were worse mistakes in the later season but I just want to this one quick.

It absolutely did. This is my favorite version of the franchise because of character development. Mikey was a bit annoying at first, but he quickly grows into a friendly guy who can tell things his brothers can't. The other three are how I excepted them to be, but Splinter was just incredible. Almost every other Splinter feels like something was wrong or missing and makes me feel that the Shredder was just simply better, but this one was really good. His moments of his own flaws and memories were just beautiful to watch for me. It was a great show, but after the first two seasons, it did slowly regress to the point where the ending was so random that I didn't care and just nearly cried at the last scene anyway. Also, the romance was very awkward with the love triangle and Leo and Karai of all people. Then they did some with Raph and a weird salamander alien and Mikey with a time traveler that looked older than him as well...it was just weird. But overall, still love it and would recommend the first two seasons at least. The others are nice, but the newest one is even wackier as a whole than Mikey in this video. 2003 was cool, just not better than this. Except the theme song for most of the seasons. That is one of the best theme songs ever. And the 1987 version made me like the movie much more.

tmnt 2012 has always been one of my fav nickelodeon cartoons. I always really enjoy watching every single episode of it. I love a combination of 3d animation and a little 2d touch to it,i just think its really cool . There so many things i love in it so im not gonna bored you guys. My personal fav episode is the last episode. Im not gonna spoil anything,if you havent watched the last episode,go and prepare because the ending is really powerful

This was one was a greatly renowned version! And 2012 Splinter is my favorite.
Although it had a very very unpleasant plot twist in season 2 (For those of you who know) which has become a great big monkey wrench in the series, for most.
And the ending of the series kinda left me a little empty.
I think Mikey isn't believed by the others about Krang in 2021 because in the original run, the exact same thing happened. Krang's first appearance (to the Turtles) was when he wanted to see Shredder fail, so helped Mikey escape when kidnapped... It was super weird. Mikey even questioned Krang, but takes off. The 2012 is just exploding with references to the original run.

the final 4 episodes of TMNT 2012 made me cry so bad.... I mean seeing Leo like that.. it just broke my heart.:'( But al the other episodes were totaly perfect!! Love them all!!

I don't know if this will make you feel better, but those "Mutant Apocalypse" episodes aren't officially "canon", according to Nickelodeon. Personally, I would have gone with an AU interpretation anyway, in light of the continuity problems.

I honestly LOVE tmnt 2012 and how dark it can get, but I abhor the romance that the writers tried to add. Leo was literally crushing on his adoptive SISTER (and I won't take "theyre not related by blood" as a response, the turtles mutated off Splinter's DNA and Karai is his biological daughter, so that technically makes them siblings by DNA) and Donnie was extremely creepy about April. There isn't anything bad about Mikey and Renet but it's kinda weird considering Renet is from the future and is practically not even born in Mikey's timeline. Mikey and Shinigami are fine but it felt really forced, like the writers used it as a way to stop people from shipping Shini and Karai who CLEARLY would have had a so much better chemstry than most ships. The only good canon ship is basically Raph and Mona because it's the only one that isn't problematic, unhealthy or just stupid
(Also the love triangle between April Casey and Donnie was the 2nd biggest mistake the writers ever made)

I get why people think Donatello is a bit creepy with April, but in his defense, april would always kiss his cheek and kind of toy with him even if it was unintentional bit regardless its not like she didn't know Donatello liked her so there is no defense when it comes to her being a bit to close
I think this show should have gotten more attention, not just the TMNT community, but from the cartoon community as well.
