On a side note;can't comment on the Cold Chisle(comments off) , another hard hitter for ex service personnel 😔yeppers, still get the night terrors from time in the services😢

For further context on how the book/movie ties to the band, it is my understanding that Cliff burton had been trying to get James to read the book for a while. When Cliff was killed in the bus accident following the Master of Puppets album, as part of the greiving process for the band, they all sat down and watched the movie together, and this song came from their grief of losing Cliff in such a horrific way and with the realization that what happened to Cliff could have happened to any of them. So they wrote the song in part as an homage to cliff and those "one in a million" chances that come true (hense the name of the song "one", which is also referenced in the book I believe).

Now we all know what pop and R&B is about. Heavy metal is about every thing else. Everything you can’t talk about at the dinner table. Every nightmare you’ve ever had. Everything you can’t talk about in good/proper company… that’s heavy metal… it addresses all the terrible things life throws at you.

It's a great song, a great film and an even better book, Metallica has several songs that are inspired by books or films, among them I recommend the songs: 'For Whom The Bell Tolls', which is based on the book of the same name by Ernest Hemingway which portrays the civil war in Spain and also 'Sad But True' which was inspired by the film Magic with Anthony Hopkins.
