I use a medium cut away and as I said on the video I always use ether the wonderunder or the heat n bond lite on my applique fabric. That makes a big difference,

How do you know which needle to hold down to do your trace?
It would be the one over the hole. look and see what one is in the sewing position and that would be the one to pull down.
how do you create your embroidery files from a clipart or picture?
I think you have to have software that converts the file to a stitch file.
I do all of my digitizing by hand. No instant converting.
I have tried to learn that, but there are so many wonderful designs online, that I decided to not bother.
