In my house growing up it was all country all the time, but my best friend had older brothers and one day when I was 5 or 6 she said let's listen to records. This was the first Beatles song I ever heard. After that I got my dad's old transistor and listened to what *I* wanted to hear :)
This is probably the best video of the Beatles live and in their prime. Before they became a worldwide sensation. Never again were the fans able to get so close to them.
this music was FUN. And still brings a smile to my face. Watching the Beatles perform in the early days you can see their enthusiasm and it is infectious. I see you smile and "dig" the songs too. And that is amazing the effect the music can have after all these decades on all of us no matter our ages and experiences. the music and the Beatles transcend all that stuff.
I was 7 years old when The Beatles landed on this planet..My whole family went berserk!..Even my parents were impressed..My hair started growing out, and I don't even remember doing it consciously..I begged my mother for Beatle boots until she finally caved..I walked up to the neighborhood dept. store (we could do that back in the day, because there were much fewer cars on the road, and no fear of being kidnapped) with my older brother, and sister to buy 45's for the only record player we owned in the house that belonged to my sister...My world, our world, THE WHOLE world would never be quite the same again, and by extension, our lives..Literally..They changed so much about the world..It was an amazing time that can't justifiably be put into words...Enjoy the music. You shouldn't feel you missed out..You have it here..If you were born and died before they came on the scene, well, those are the unlucky ones.
Imagine no click tracks or auto tune. Imagine no tape loops or drum machines. Just you, your instrument and the audience. These guys were the real deal. All you pretenders, take note! Thanks for the great reaction. ✌️
I love the introduction to Twist and Shout they did when they played for the Queen. 'Would those in the cheaper seats clap your hands...everyone else if you'll just rattle your jewelry...'
My native language is Dutch, but I learned English by listening for hours and hours to my dad's Beatles (vinyl) records. Reading the lyrics on the album covers and trying to sing along with the songs :) By the time I was 7 I was able to talk to tourists that came to see Amsterdam while riding the tram :D The Beatles are great!
Keep following their trail, JB...their progression and so many musical things they did that were first. They were a phenomenon. Their music, lyrics just kept getting better and laid the ground work for so many bands to come. I was about 5/6 years old at this time. And yes, yes, yes...not everything has to go onto a cell phone's memory card!!!
Thank you for the positive vibes :) the Beatles (though popular before my time) have always been one of my absolute favorites and I was thrilled to see the smile on your face as you listened! If we all just close our eyes and listen, there are no barriers my friend :)
When I was 5 or 6 years old and Beatlemania first hit in the US, music like this was ambrosia to me. My first Beatle song was "She Loves You" and it opened up pleasure centers in my brain that I didn't know I had. That's why I love the Beatles' early songs like this the best.
Awesome 👍👍👍👍 I was so fortunate to be born in Liverpool and go an watch these geniuses before they were even known outside this great city👏👏👏👏👏👏👏. I enjoy your reactions so much.keep up man. You are one of the best
If I say it once I'll say it a thousand times - there's no way that you'll ever know how the Beatles affected us, unless you were there!!! I just happened to be a very young girl so this was just perfect for me :) They were everything!
That was some awesome footage, I have every Beatles album ever made, plus all their singles and side projects and have seen a lot of their videos, but I had never seen that one.
Thanks so much for reacting to this! I was born in England and came to the US with my parents and four brothers in 1970. This brings back such happy memories for me from my childhood. I remember watching the Beatles on TV when I was a little girl and being so excited to see them! Yes the times were simpler then, and although I love technology at times (like right now, for example!) I do miss the old days, haha! My dad, who's now 85, just got a new computer and a smartphone and is discovering the world of the Internet. He's just loving RUclips where he can watch just about anything, including videos like these. Thanks again for all of your reactions!
The Beatles were way ahead of their time and would be a sensation today if they burst onto the scene. John Lennon fought for world peace and human rights. We need someone like him today.
First time watching, liked your comments at the end. You might notice that one of the songs they played was written by a great black musician, Little Richard. The Beatles, Stones and many of the other British bands brought a lot of R&B to the ears of middle class white kids who had never heard of it before. The Beatles did covers of "You Really Got a Hold on Me", "Mr. Postman" and even "Twist and Shout" which although written by a white man, was first recorded by the R&B group "The Top Notes" and later by "The Isley Brothers". This musical revolution set the stage for more tolerance and understanding between blacks and whites during this period. IMHO. I don't usually sub on a first watch but I did because your attitude is one of inclusion and that fits right in with the way I feel.
Wait til you hear albums like Rubber Soul....wait til you hear Sergeant Pepper...wait til you hear the musicians they were...wait til you hear the influences of their trip to India and the psychedelic 60s!!!
YAY JB you did early, early The Beatles; thank you thank you thank you. My most favourite band ever, tho I love and adore so much music but these boys are hard to beat (to Beatle lol). They were so classy, the bow at the end of every song. They did that in every single show. They make me proud to be English. You looked like you were rocking along there with your nodding head and sweet smile. I am SO glad you like them. Your message at the end would have suited The Beatles down to the ground; they were ALL about the love and the music. Their amazing manager, Brian Epstein, was gay and Jewish which they all knew and couldn't care less. And being gay was illegal here at that time. Peace, love and music, love from a very cold East Coast of England, which you just made a bit warmer. xx
Dawn Sutton That wasn’t really “early, early The Beatles” as you put it. The Tony Sheridan and The Beatles Live At The Star Club periods would be considered early Beatles.
James, I enjoyed your comments at the end. Race, sexuality, religion, gender identity, who the hell cares? We're all just people trying to live our lives. All that should matter is whether someone has a good heart ❤ Thank you for being so open minded and lovely. That's why you're my favourite youtuber. Well....that and your Queen reactions of course 👑💚🤗 you're the best xx
It is truly hard to imagine how they heard each other to hit the vocal harmonies. This is from their first actual tour outside UK if the pre-fame days in Hamburg are not counted. The 1963 tour in Sweden comprised of six concerts and this television show called "Drop In". The tour made a huge impact in Sweden where bands playing in this fresh style emerged quickly and were equally loathed with their long hairs and noisy music. ;) It was on Beatles' return to home the popularity in UK really got shown with the mass of people greeting them on the airfield.
That was WAY before my time, but I’ve been a BeaTles fan sine I have memory. Good for you, young man. God help anyone who can hate for someone with a different skin color. I truly believe that the media champions a lot of the division. This is why I love your channel. God bless you. “Music hath charms to soothe a savage beast.”
Anybody enjoying this should really check out the Beatles in Australia 1964. The sound quality is phenomenal , easily the best recorded performance and the best to capture of the ferocity of the early Beatle performances.
So pleased you listened to The Beatles. Nothing better. Ringo is my grandfathers 1st cousin 😁 I have amazing old photos of them. Please listen to Let It Be... I think it will REALLY resonate with you 🙏🌷
Ok...I gotta say this. I've binged on a whole bunch of your videos & just love your style. (not talking over songs, when to pause for thoughts & when to start again without losing the grove or message of a song & your final analysis.) You are one of the best, if not *the* best, Reaction youtuber I've ever watched: open, non-judgmental, curious, and forever expanding the mind. You, sir, are a true lover of music! Subscribed! (d'uh!) :-D
What is so funny is that these clean cut lads were considered rebels the long hair was scandalous. But the beatle’s cut took off. My brother got one as a child.
I put Spotify on the other day and hit the rap cap button, and fuck me, every other word was cunt, pussy, fuck, lick, squirt, etc.. I'm only 38, no proud, an ex marine, and hardly have a clean vocabulary, and was blown away with how foul the language was. Reminded me of when Eminem was considered bad, back in the day. That would probably be rated as PG today. The beatles and Queen would be Disney.
You are the first African-American to react to The Beatles from their one of their earliest televised musical performances. It took place on the music show, "Drop In", and was videotaped on October 30, 1963 for later broadcast on Swedish Television. This footage is the only existing musical performance by the Beatles that was not drowned out by crowd noise. This makes it very historic indeed. It is also impressive how the young women and girls were captivated by The Beatles as they entered the stage floor area. This was history being made in real time. Thank you for sharing your reaction to this historic music performance by The Beatles here on RUclips.
The Beatles' first big hit in the U.S. ("I Want to Hold Your Hand") is still my all-time favorite of theirs. They really progressed as songwriters and performers in their short decade together until they broke up in 1970. You should check out the Beach Boys, too, who developed the California surfer sound ("California Girls," "Good Vibrations," "God Only Knows," "Fun, Fun, Fun" and "Surfin' U.S.A.").
It would be amazing if you perhaps felt like following The Beatles' musical trajectory the way you have with Queen... these are amazing, but they really evolved in only the span of 10 years, and they really did shape music as we know it today... idk if you'd be into that. in any case, your reactions are great as always, no matter what they are
I found your site last night, and was amazed that you would be moved by Karen Carpenter's voice. Now today, you pine for a more simple day - a day before you were born - when music was loved for being music. Pure, raw, uncluttered. I'm a 63 year old white guy from rural southern Indiana. I might start my own 'reaction' series on RUclips, reacting to music that I know nothing/little about ... but maybe ought to. Like you, expand my comfort zone. Thank you.
Haha, this brought back memories of my brothers band practicing "Twist 'n Shout" and "Saw Her Standing There". Good times, the sixties, seventies and eighties because of the music. My brothers band won the Battle of the Bands here in Cincinnati that one year.
Right on man, dig your reaction... The Beatles, the beginning of Classic Rock... Subscribing now man... Help, Eleanor Rigby, She Loves You, Don't Let Me Down, I Feel Fine, Paperback Writer, Helter Skelter, all recommendations man, among the dozens and dozens and dozens of others that I would list... until then, Up the Irons man... \m/
That was a great live performance at the beginning of their career. Now check out one from the very end of their career -- "Don't Let Me Down", from their last live public performance, January 29, 1969, where they performed a bunch of songs on the rooftop of their business offices/recording studio in London. It's a fantastic performance, and a great contrast.
James you are a truly a wonderful person 👏😄. I grew up loving all kinds of music TV and films, sport and racism never occurred to me. My favourite male singer is the one and only awesome Stevie Wonder his voice just makes me melt, plus Gladys Knight is my favourite female singer. Love all the Motown and Soul music too, plus the Beatles of course then QUEEN came along and blew my mind and became my all time favourite band and now joint favourite with Queen is a group that BRIAN MAY (from Queen) loves is the wonderful group MUSE, could you please take a listen. I know they're not that old (1994-still going ) but they are so talented, well educated and lovely guys who are very passionate about the world, epic, etc, etc Try for starters ANY of these= Butterflies and Hurricanes, Uprising, Resistance, Knights of Cydonia, Pressure, Panic Station, Starlight. There is more but too many to mention. ✌😄💞
I love what you are saying and it is a shame that everyone can not just love or at least like everyone. But no matter how long life goes on l believe that there always be hate or dislike for some reason or another.I wish so badly that I could change it all in one day. It has been that way for every and l just don’t ever seeing it coming to a end.
FWIW... Some might not realize... During the Beatles' first tour of the US in the early '60s, they were horrified that some places in the US were segregated as there was no segregation in England So, they had it written into their performance contracts that they were not required perform for a segregated audience . The Beatles popularity was so great that segregationists had no choice but to integrate the theaters where they performed . Of course, all the black and white youngsters got along great and a wonderful time was had by all.. So, The Beatles did indeed play a pert in integrating the US.
This was recorded in Sweden on a TV-show called "Drop In". The name of the host was Klas Burling.

You're a good guy! A positive for this world...thanks for the hope thru great music. Music and The Beatles I grew up with!
The Beatles, when playing in the South, refused to segregate their audiences and insisted that the audiences at every venue were integrated.
People forget these guys were barely in their 20's writing their own stuff with amazing style and harmonies!! Love The Beatles!!!!
What spectacular footage!! I'm a Beatlemaniac since 1962, and this is so cool!! Ta, mate.

Just FYI, Little Richard encouraged them to include the "OOOOOH" lyric in their music. That was his lyrical "trademark" in his music.

During the Beatles' first tour of the US in the early '60s, they were horrified that some places in the US were segregated as there was no segregation in England
So, they had it written into their performance contracts that they were not required perform for a segregated audience .
The Beatles popularity was so great that segregationists had no choice but to integrate the theaters where they performed .
Of course, all the black and white youngsters got along great and a wonderful time was had by all..
So, The Beatles did indeed play a pert in integrating the US.
And not forgetting that Paul McCartney wrote the beautiful song 'Blackbird' in honour of the Civil Rights movement.
@@papercup2517 Of course, that is a given . :)
