Dear everyone. I would like to remind you all that as long as he's been there, Travis is not an original member of blink either. But it's gotten to a point that so few of blink fans even remember everything pre dude ranch was Scott in the drums. And if you want to start saying that Tom was a founding member and he's a big reason they're as big as they are, remember. Scott is the one who bought the tape recorder. Yet no one seems to care about that now. Bands swap members when they need to. It's like a car. You wouldn't throw a car away for a flat tire.... Keep this in mind.

I am a HUGE fan of blink. They are my favorite band. I love Mark, Tom and Travis. That being said... I don't think we as fans will EVER know the truth about what REALLY happened. And I don't think we'll ever see or hear the original line up again. As heart broken as I am by that... I don't think that they could have found a better replacement. Matt sounds fucking awesome on guitar and on vocals. Idk if I will go as far as saying as I want a new blink album with Skiba.... But I would see them live with Skiba forever!

Their Jaguar bass&guitar sounds amazing, Tom can put his shitty Gibson right to his ass, and congrats to Matt Skiba for his motivation, he did it well.
I saw blink live in 2009 and in 2012, and HOLY CRAP they sound so much better in this video than they did either time I saw them (or in any video post-reunion). It was pretty clear in every performance after their initial break-up that Tom wasn't invested in the performance, so I'm stoked about this change.

I'm not a huge Blink fan, more of a casual Blink fan but I am a HUGE Alk3 fan. I think its so awesome to see Matt take over for Tom. I understand that it changes the dynamic of Blink and the "+44 with Skiba" comments but can you think of anyone else better than Matt to replace Tom. Can anyone?

Oliver William Quinn Mate, check them out! Alkaline Trio is Matt's original band, been around 20 years. S/T (cassette tape cover) album, maybe I'll catch fire, goddammit, From Here To Infirmary and Crimson are the top albums (the older ones) but everything from them is great!

So Don't Leave Me doesn't sound like Blink182? Just choose those words carefully. Tom isn't everything. I love the guy, I have since I was younger and I have so much respect for him, but Travis and Mark drive this band harder than he does now. The band belongs to those who are willing to drive it, and that is Mark and Travis.
MooseboyBrett No, the band belongs to Mark, Tom and Travis--all three of them. Tom is not officially out. Why do you think they have to preface their shows with "blink 182 w/ Matt Skiba"? And you're right, Tom isn't everything, but he's a huge part whether you like him or not. He's lead vox in nearly every song in blink's last three albums. You can't replace that. Maybe you could in a six member band, maybe in a band that's been around for a few short years, but not with a 20 year old band composed of three iconic musicians.
Just bare in mind that Matt's only been in the band for 2/3 weeks, bit more idk, whereas Tom was in it all his life. Matt's only going to get better with the harmonies and how to sing everything, but i think considering everything and the short space of time Matt's had to learn these 24 songs plus the 90 SONGS he has to learn for Alkaline Trio I think he has done very well. Deffo made his mommy proud!

Actually, no..Matt sounds like an upper register Mark. Like when Mark sang high in +44 songs. For example, Chapter 13 and other songs where he sang higher than he did on any blink album, that's what Matt sounds like.
I don't know if it doesn't show here or not but I was most worried about this when they announced Matt. His and Mark's voices are so similar but live it worked really well and the harmonies that have been missing since 2002 came back which was fun. Now to get them to play Pathetic!

Oh yea the harmonies are back and everything, but if I wanted them, I would have happily listened to the albums again. I wanted that Tom and Mark back and forth dick jokes and the mom and dad jokes and I know Tom hasn't been into it since 2009, but I was just happy they were back. Like I said down below, it's one show in and they're right, I sound like I'm crying over spilled milk (or Apple juice like in "Adam's Song" see what I did there?) and I'll admit that yea I am because this is a HUGE change for a band I grew up with. But back to your comment, I completely agree..it sounds like 2015 Mark is singing with 1990's Mark haha

I think a lot has to be said for Blink and especially recently. People here seem to be either open to idea of Matt being the replacement for Tom and then there is the other group of people who believe that blink is nothing without Tom. As much as i adore Tom and what hes done for the band I honestly do believe that Matt is a better live performer and can give something fresh to Blink. It comes down to the question of would you rather us keep Tom and hear nothing Blink related. Tom put Blink on hold for 12 books and EP's that would take up his time. At least with Matt we have Blink now. Matt can give something to Blink. Even though Tom was a great song writer and guitarist, Blink have an opportunity to try something new as Tom wanted Blink to sound more AVA-ish to an extent. I myself welcome Matt and even though some people might not accept it, we still have a Blink 182 around and that is what matters.

When you think of blink you think about toms voices. They are synonymous with each other. It's probably one of the most impersonated voices in rock music and Pop culture. I think that mark Matt and travis will be able to make some Cool music in the future but as far as covering the old stuff it just will never be the same or as good in my opinion

I just watched a live version of feeling this from last year with Tom. Now I listened to this and it sounds amazing compared to that. No space guitar, no slurred vocals, and harmonization.

People only like it because we've been used to Tom's whiney voice for so long, Matt actually sings in key and not like he's being strangled. I love Tom but he can't sing for shit live, this was the first show with Matt and it's only going to get better if it becomes a permanent thing

if (when) they eventually record their own music, it will never have the same blink feeling as with Tom. yes matt sings more consistently that tom live - but the original songs you hear on their albums are distinct and made by Tom's whiny voice, it is what we've grown to love and matt will never be able to replace that.
If anyone can let me know where and when there next show will be. Any tour dates coming up?

This is how most shows in LA are. People don't like to mosh here. PLUS ,I have never seen the Roxy that crowded. Things would have gotten bad if people would have gone ham, most likely.

I don't know if they can make an album with the guy legally or the place it would have in today's music but damn if he doesn't sound great compared to Tom 2003-present. Like most of you, I grew up on this band and am a musician partly due to them. I cheered them on like a middle schooler all over again when they reunited but wow was it hard to listen to Tom's vocals live. As a guitarist, the Gibson looks as killer as it gets but I still think the strat through the mesa/marshall combo was a lot better suited for their music. I don't know what head unit Matt is running through but his jag sounds great for blink and his guitar parts were much cleaner.
Think tom has been using Vox since 2003 era to present. He did a RUclips commercial for them too if I'm not mistaken

1. There will always be old blink songs
2. They're using the name blink-182 still because lets face it...it will sell more copy's than a +44 cd and does the name really matter?
3. Tom is making new stuff so that's a win on both parts. We get to see new improved blink-182 content and also get to hear new stuff from Tom.
4. The live shows will actually sound really good and Matt is just a great singer and can bring a lot of new and original content to blink.
IT DOESN'T MATTER what Skiba sounds like. He could sound like a million bucks! It is just not the same to us. It's not all about the sound, it's about what the band represents and the image we have burned of the Blink 182 that once was. It is like taking a brand name, selling 1/3 of the company off and still calling it the same company but adding "made in Pakistan" to the end of the Trademark..
