Driving 405 freeway North, 1988 vs 2022
I randomly found this (ruclips.net/video/SUh0PsW7XyI/видео.html) RUclips video and knew exactly where he was starting because it was only a couple miles from where I grew up and where he was ending his drive because I live only a couple miles from there now. I got that weird itch telling me I had to re-create the video as faithfully as I possibly could (I even said "Wrong way!" like he does at :35 seconds) so on a weekend, I piled the kids and my dad into the car and off we went!
Because he shot the original video on a Friday evening in 1988 and I was driving the route on a Sunday afternoon, it's not a direct 1:1 recreation so I decided to get a little creative:
• I kept and used the origin...

The first half of the video is Mark recording an episode of the Hi My Name is Mark podcast where he talks to the crowd, most notably Arthur from b182.com, Chris Holmes, John Coulter (sp?), and James Ingram

blink-182: Cynical at 78RPM

Tom DeLonge: "New World" - Recut

I thought Tom Delonge's video for New World could use some help. Looked like he had run low on footage and the editor slapped in some uninspired b-roll and stills. Here's my vision of what would be better suited for those dead spaces. Song: "New World" Artist: Tom Delonge Album: To The Stars... Demos, Odds, and Ends Footage: "New World" Music Video and "The Lost World: Jurassic Park" directed b...

Kinda wish they'd being back the higher medians for freeways. Lots of cars nowadays with brights that literally shine straight into your eyes.
I was 13 on the left and 47 on the right
Driving in 1988 you didn't know what 2022 would be like the future back then was expected to be different than what it is today. But just like in Terminator 2 "No Fate but what you make"
Nice view thx
Left Orange County in '87 and never went back. Took 25 minutes to get to the beach before lunch and 2.5 hours to get home at rush hour.
In 1988 we had to actually look at a physical map to get around if we were not familiar with the roads in our immediate area. Today we can just turn on Google Maps on our cell phone, put in the starting and ending points, and get automated directions.😎
Awesome
I know everyone has mixed feelings about SUV’s and crossovers nowadays and how it’s making cars extremely nostalgic… but you all need to keep in mind that we’re living in a certain era of vehicles right now. I noticed in the 2022 video that nearly all the vehicles were either a SUV, crossover, or truck. Just wait in 35 years when everything will be electric vehicles and god knows what on earth kind of vehicle we’d be driving by then, but 2022 will sure be very nostalgic by then 🤷♂️ It’s 2023 now as I’m posting this. Plus I also live in Minnesota where it snows and have salty roads and bad weather. SUV’s, crossovers, and trucks have pretty much taken over the roads already. I think it’s not really the same for CA yet because of their warm weather and the salty roads not being present to turn cars into rust buckets 🤣 Every time I’m on the highway and I see a group of vehicles appear again and coining from the opposite bound lanes, I sometimes will never spot a car at all
as expected, 1988 LA was 1000 times better.
Past is not 1988 is 1945
Lol
WOW...great idea !
i prefer the music from 1988 vs 2022
Very impressive 👏 I enjoyed watching it... good job 🤘😎🤘
I love it!
Oddly, the 2022 video is of much lower quality than that of 1988.
This is soooo cool!! Thanks for posting
80s TOP
Amazing work ..! Although I totally love it ..! It would of been crazy to see at the same time of the day ..! There you would of seen the tremendous difference .. great work ..! 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
Great driving music too, like 5:42, anyone recognize this?
If you drove the same stretch today on a Friday night at 6p, it would be complete gridlock the entire way. Mid day traffic in LA today is what rush hour was 25 yrs ago.

awsome♡ venice blvd× sepulveda blvd &405fwy remeinds me of my school days(^^)v
The 2022 video is shaky, probably from a CP camera
In
Not sure what area this is rents always higher on certain parts of town anyway
Maybe one of the few differenced would be the amount of rent for any of those apartments. 1988: around maybe, $ 350-400+ for a one Bdrm, 2022: maybe around $1,500+ or so?
MOM, ARE YOU HERE? ♥
Nah. Not violent seizure. Not violen seizure. Not of the seizure. Not a blind date. Not a blind day. /
I wish i were alive to drive in the 80’s.
0:35 They say that to this day the "stupid bitch" is still going the wrong way.
Incredible effort to trace the footsteps of the past. Thank you.
Who's here from TikTok?
got a link to the tiktok that brought you over?
Why is the pole at 1:34 still bent in the same position after 40 years 😂
So they planted trees just to cut them off later? What a joke lol

Omggggg amazing! Thank you so much ... i love this 💘
It's funny to see all those boxy cars in the 1980's and all those curvy ones in the 2020's. The curvy design was adopted in the 1990's and it still persists until today, so far. Businesses from the 1980's have shut their doors and windows before the 2020's while businesses from the 2020's have been recently built and did not exist in the 1980's. Try doing a 1988 vs 2023 thing in a super fast growing small town that turns into a city. You will see a WAY larger difference in those areas than the ones that were already large cities to begin with.
I was -5 in the left and 28 in the right
Perfect job keeping the videos synced, including timely lane changes. This must've been a lot of work, but a labor of love I'm sure! Thank you for creating this!
