YAS!! only like one or two more armor pieces!!!! thank you so much for making almost all the armor pieces now I could get started on making armor for my movie!!!!!!!! once again thank you very very much!! :D :D :D :D
Thank you so much for this project! I did it today to help make armored boots for my cosplay. I modified it look wise to match the character but the basic steps were followed closely :)
This is the way I’ve been making the rest of my armor (cardboard + thin craft foam rather than thick EVA foam), so this tutorial fits what I need better than almost any I’ve found. I’ve been putting off making the greaves (they intimidate me lol), but this tutorial was just what I needed to help me stop procrastinating! Thanks! (Btw I love the ‘masking tape on creases’ tip, I wish I’d learned that earlier.)
Thank you so much for your tutorial! Im currently making ganondorf armor and was totally stuck on the legs until i came across this tutorial and template. I'll be using yours and modding it. Thank you again
These turned out really well! the only issue, my calves are a little big. I haven't velcrod them yet, but I may have to make Alterations to get them to fit.
This is pretty cool but I'd recommend putting in a lip at the ankle end of the greaves. I know they probably won't dig into you as much as real greaves, still it'll help the rubbing against you.
hey Will, Im taking my templates ,now I have All of them and Im making them out of duct work to get that metal clang when Im wearing it , and going to use the black and bronze hammered effect spray paint.
if I wanted to make black armor would I just do the same step u did with the spray paint but just with black spray paint? also what type of spray paint do u use? thank you and awesome video
+Javier Mandujano I use various spray paints. This is rustoleum metallic. And yes, follow the same process and use black spray paint instead of silver. That way it looks like black metal.
so far I crafted a tunic, shoulder armor, arm leg and the armor. if I wanted to do a entire suit, should I use black spray paint then red metallic finish?
I am making this with my 12 year old and was wondering if in should make it smaller or what? i was maybe going to try to skip the middle piece and just use the top and bottom. Do you think that would work?
mr fantasy i was wondering two things can i get the same effect if i print the template on 8×11 paper and when you finish your armor will you show us the whole armor together
+diabolicallink For epicfantasy, you could do like comic book themed glass cases; Or skyrim, like make it look like a word wall in the dragon language, maybe even painting in the lines with glow in the dark stuff from inside glow in the dark wand tube things, party things, ya know what I mean. The light up things you snap and bend into bracelets, cut those open and paint the lines so they glow like you're dragonborn reading stuff; Or some other thing like a shallow diorama of something. This could be so cool.
Would using regular brush-onglue instead of spray glue work as well? And what brand silver paint did you use? Is it a crome paint or just silver? Sorry for all the questions, I am planning on making these Greaves very son so I want to make sure I don't mess up too bad .. Thank you for your time!
The brush on glue is difficult for this type of work. You can get it to work but the spray on is much easier. Be sure to test on a small piece, some spray on glues melt the foam.
I have never used the loctite spray adhesive. But loctite does make a whole series of excellent adhesives. I like to use 3m spray adhesive. Elmers makes a pretty good spray adhesive too.
could this be done with just foam and no cardboard? i am making the bracers you posted and they don't use cardboard. Do these just need more support? thanks! DS
ok. dangit.. no spray adhesive. do you think i could brush on some watered down gorilla wood glue? would 2 2mm sheets of craft foam glued together be strong enough or would it not be flexible enough?
Goodness---this technique could be used to make Stormtrooper armor, couldn't it? It would be pretty close to the same thickness as the real thing! It wouldn't be 501st level, for sure, but it could still look real good.
Okay I like how you make the leg guards is what I'm going to call himbut you did not show how you started out with your pattern to make the other ones on cardboard so how do I get to pattern I went to your other site for the plate and you didn't show me that either
+BryanWolf13 excellent question. It is best to attach the velcro directly to the cardboard so it stays stronger. It can tend to pull off the craft foam.
this is some great stuff Xo me and my girl are gonna make all your arm armour for a steam punk costume , we will email you pictures or something when we are done if you'd like man
+epicfantasy Your videos are great! Thanks for sharing your awesome ideas with us! l am extremely interested in making of miniatures and dioramas, but l recently started loving them and so the problem is l am in desperate need of your advice!! l would like you to help me with two things: First of all, what is the best product to use when it comes to coating AND THEN sculpting polystyrene to add as much detail as possible? (the white, thin type of foam you find in packages of electronic equipment)? Simple plaster? Plaster cloth? Something else? l want it to meet two standards: 1) being strong,2) being easy to add lots of small detail. Also, what products should l use to build small scale figures and miniatures in general? Should l use foam board, craft board or clay? Oh,and where can l find craft foam? Sorry,l know this is a lot of questions, but l need help desperately! l love what you do,l am a huge fan of yours and l am sure you can help me! Thanks in advance!! Liked and subscribed!! 😁😊

Excellent work, Will. Making the front and back in separate detachable pieces is brilliant with the velcro.
Also when your done with all your armor creations I really want to see you wear everything. You'll be an Epic Fantasy Knight!
Once again, simply awesome! You never cease to amaze me with your creativity!
Made mine today. Turned out fantastic! So far I have the chest, upper arms and greaves.
I love your tutorials! I have used your foam armor templates for so many different cosplays! Thank you!
All of the tutorials are really simple to do and just amazing!
Thanks for watching!
epicfantasy Thank YOU for taking the time to make these!

+candygirl77777 You are very welcome and congrats on the boots!

Thank you for you kind words. Enjoy and send me a pic when theyre done!
I'm going to try this when i remake my captain falcon shins. thank you so much
Thank you so much for your tutorial! Im currently making ganondorf armor and was totally stuck on the legs until i came across this tutorial and template. I'll be using yours and modding it. Thank you again
+epicfantasy if you us a small hole punch you can use your scrap foam for rivets as well. Just glue them on.
Wonderful tutorial sir!! I wish you can build your castle!
Thanks!
These turned out really well! the only issue, my calves are a little big. I haven't velcrod them yet, but I may have to make Alterations to get them to fit.
This is epic, thank you for this helpful tutorial!
Thank you for the ideas.
I'm going to make it for marvel ronin costume.
You really solves my problem.
This is pretty cool but I'd recommend putting in a lip at the ankle end of the greaves. I know they probably won't dig into you as much as real greaves, still it'll help the rubbing against you.
+samjwoodruff Really good suggestion!
Hi there. May I please know how would you make a lip?
You made this way easier then what I did.
amazing job sir, can't wait to see it all together :D
Does one size fit all, or do we trim it accordingly?
Nevermind
Great stuff! After you're done, you should put on the whole armor set and make a live-action dragon slayer video! :D
Yes please! That would be awesome!
u are soooooo good in crafting
cant wait to see it all together :)
I wonder if it would be possible to do all of your foam armor, but with metal sheets!
it would probably be heavy but would be cool
Yeah it would be really fun to wear in LARPs :)
It is, I've done the gauntlet with 10 gauge duct steel
You can get a 4x4 ft sheet of it for 7$
hey Will, Im taking my templates ,now I have All of them and Im making them out of duct work to get that metal clang when Im wearing it , and going to use the black and bronze hammered effect spray paint.
Excellent. Be sure to send me pics!
I sent you a pic of the gauntlets I think, But I painted the helmet black and it looks awesome.
if I wanted to make black armor would I just do the same step u did with the spray paint but just with black spray paint? also what type of spray paint do u use? thank you and awesome video

Thanks for the quick response. I can't wait to start on this build :)
i use google eyes over it for rivets, have you ever tried to do that, and if so which works better?
Zephyr Sinclair i also used that for a medieval helmet last year 😉 works great
Would this be a good LARPing set???
so far I crafted a tunic, shoulder armor, arm leg and the armor. if I wanted to do a entire suit, should I use black spray paint then red metallic finish?

How did you make it so round looking? Mine came out with annoying bend/ angles instead of bending when i tried rolling it.
Hey will big fan all ready made the shins now could you do templates and video on thighs thanks
Very awesome stuff! Looks like real metal indeed!
You should do a sword or shield from the game Dark Souls!
mr fantasy i was wondering two things
can i get the same effect if i print the template on 8×11 paper
and when you finish your armor will you show us the whole armor together
I love your Channel!
Do you do woodworking tutorials? If so a few of my friends and I want to make glasses cases but have no clue how to go about doing it.
+diabolicallink For epicfantasy, you could do like comic book themed glass cases;
Or skyrim, like make it look like a word wall in the dragon language, maybe even painting in the lines with glow in the dark stuff from inside glow in the dark wand tube things, party things, ya know what I mean. thank you very much for the help! ^-^
please make the cane sword next
what spray adhesive do you recommend. i purchaswed some loctite 100 general performance and it does not seem to be a permanent bond.
I have never used the loctite spray adhesive. But loctite does make a whole series of excellent adhesives. I like to use 3m spray adhesive. Elmers makes a pretty good spray adhesive too.
epicfantasy 3M 77 or 90 for foam?
Thanks!!
DS
You should make Sauron's helmet
could this be done with just foam and no cardboard? i am making the bracers you posted and they don't use cardboard. Do these just need more support?
thanks!
DS
Not with this kind of foam. But you could do it with something called EVA foam.
ok. dangit.. no spray adhesive. do you think i could brush on some watered down gorilla wood glue? would 2 2mm sheets of craft foam glued together be strong enough or would it not be flexible enough?
Yes, I tihnk it will work. but, test first. And you probably should press it with a stack of books while it dries.
you could use small googie eyes for the rivets.
Goodness---this technique could be used to make Stormtrooper armor, couldn't it? It would be pretty close to the same thickness as the real thing! It wouldn't be 501st level, for sure, but it could still look real good.

That's REALLY great! :O
If you were to make it not look as if it's metal, should you just put a coat of mod podge, let dry, then paint whatever color?
I would paint it the desired color first, let it dry, then mod podge it.
cool, thank you!
if I was making an entire suit how many cans of paint would I need
in ur next vid put on all your armor pieces and model them for us.
Amazing!
+epicfantasy could you make a ninja scrol from naruto that would be asome and maby a scrol holder as well
Can you make cuisses next? I think it would look really good with the greaves and sabatons you created. ^_^
would put the velcro on after doing the craftfoam so it hides all the cardboard
+BryanWolf13 excellent question. It is best to attach the velcro directly to the cardboard so it stays stronger. It can tend to pull off the craft foam.
Nice!
+epicfantasy stitch it in after glue should be safe after

Googly eyes for rivets.

Excellent work, Will. Making the front and back in separate detachable pieces is brilliant with the velcro.
