I’d say that New York and London should have probably tied for #1. NYC and London are very VERY similar cities. They’ve even been referred to as essentially twin cities.
On top of that, I was surprised not to see either Paris or Hong Kong on this list. Paris is easily one of the top 10 most important global cities for its cultural impact alone. And Hong Kong was, and arguably still is, one of the biggest economic powerhouses in East Asia.

He then followed that up by calling them a economic and political 'titan' .The rest was a commentary on Vladimir Putin's political triumphs. - Twelve professional football teams
    - Goes back to before the Roman times
    - Never more than 5 minutes walk from a pub
    - Where time begins (GMT)
There is more of a stronger case for London independence (as we Londoners are woefully underrepresented in Parliament) than Scottish independence.

London is located right in the center of the planet so of course you gonna get more international visitors. NYc skyline is vastly superior. The dollar is the world reserve currency and the NY federal reserve bank prints for the entire world. Broadway is much bigger than the west end while off broadway is second to none. NYC weather is hell of alot better. way more sunshine and proper warmth all year round etc. London does have the history advantage and thats about it. I definitely would have taken Seoul for the reasons you mentioned, especially since it has a major political sway with the upcoming Korean questions. But I wouldn't take Hong Kong and Shanghai.
Hong Kong was only relevant when it was the only link between China and the rest of the world - it's losing power ever since China opened up in 1979. Shanghai is an important financial center, but other financial centers like Shenzhen and Hangzhou may reduce Shanghai's importance.
It's the same reason I think Singapore may possibly not have the same sway in the future. If China succeeds with One Belt it would bypass Malacca, and that would significantly reduce Singapore's importance.

    • @Luboman411
      @Luboman411 6 лет назад

Well, the GDP of these cities are calculated taking metro area populations into account. Once you do that, it's not that surprising. Tokyo's metro area has 36 million people, 12 million more people than all of Australia. So obviously Tokyo will have a much larger economy than Australia or Canada (which has around 37 million people). Paris could buy South Africa because the Paris metro area has 10 million people whereas South Africa has 50 million. But an average Parisian is way wealthier than an average South African. Hence why Paris has a larger economy.

I still have my reservations about London being on the list, but not number 1.
      1) Research and innovation: San Francisco should be the pick.
      2) Political influence: Washington DC and Beijing.
      3) Commerce: Tokyo and Singapore.
      4) Educational centre: Seoul.
      5) Primary city in Europe according to the aforementioned lists should be Berlin.
      Comprehend that you twat.

Fine, then. I checked other institutional rankings.
There is almost a tie between NYC and London.
I am not a stock market specialist or hedge fund analyst yet, so I can't say how much does NYC as a city benefits from Wall street, but since London has lower crime, I agree with London.

The most visited city in the world is Bangkok, London then Paris. Also Mumbai is very influential in India but not the world. But yeah i would say Paris is more than Lagos and a little more than Riyadh.

    4/ Tokyo
    5/ Shanghai
    6/ Beijing
    7/ Hong Kong
    8/ Moscow
    9/ LA
    10/ Singapore

@@CallsignVega - you're just jealous because you came in at no. 2 and your capital came in nowhere, mainly since you plainly weren't paying attention to the list of parameters against which the comparisons were being made. Besides, the UK has the 5th largest economy in the world, so how is it that it has no power? The US has the largest economy built, in part, on massive borrowing, which eventually, you're going to have to repay.

@OceanBlue dude what the hell does this have to do with the left? Not everything has to be politically motivated. I am very left leaning but 100% agree NYC should have been #1. The world economy runs through it, the UN is headquartered there, much of the worlds banking and gold deposits are center there and it the Largest and most influential city in a country with the most powerful military in the world. If this list had been made 75 years ago then yea London would have topped it but those days are long done.

Thanks immensely for not doing that! The two reasons above are the two biggest reasons I subscribed. I also like your variety.
