  • A very livable tent for solo backpackers and campers, the MSR Elixir 1 tent combines a fast and easy setup with generous accommodations. The versatile tent features a large vestibule for storing gear and one easy-entry door. The tent body balances breathable mesh with solid canopy fabric to deliver ventilation, warmth and privacy. Inside, a built-in gear loft keeps smaller items organized and within reach, while the glow-in-the-dark zipper pull is easy to find at night. Whether you’re frontcountry camping or trekking deeper into the wilderness, the Elixir 1 tent was built for livability at the highest level. Footprint included.

Just discovered your channel, you're talking my language (albeit from across the pond 😄) Great presentation style, clear, concise and with all the detail I hope to find in reviews but rarely get. Big thank you 👍

Thanks, that helps a lot to avoid being the circus act putting it on for the first time at a crowded camp side ;-)

Nice considered thorough review -- just need to add --- Bought one of these msr tents in April 22. Ten uses and a pole split. So sent it back for repair. Lost confidence in the manufacturer now. Nice once it's pitched. Those poles are the fiddliest and awkward of all the tents I've owned.

Great tent for the price, only problem the poles do break easy, getting hubba nx 1 soon, can't wait.

Hubba NX 1P is very small inside. I had one and had to sell it. It was higher quality that the Elixir but it was a number of inches narrower inside in terms of width . . . And those few inches make a big difference when you are in a small one person tent.
I sold the Hubba NX 1 P and bought the Elixir 1P . . . and it is much roomier inside . . .vestibule area is noticeably bigger too in the Elixir.

Hi. Thanks for the review :) I'm considering this tent for a year backpacking in South America, where I'll be doing some multi-day hikes/treks in Patagonia and in the Andes. Do you think it would be up to the task?
Also - what is it like stargazing at night-time with the rainfly off? Is it awesome, or is the view obstructed because of the lack of mesh? Thanks :)

Great review, but have a question regarding the short cross pole. Is it bent in same manner at the both ends that it doesn’t matter which way that is towards the front vs the back?

I own this tent and yes, you can turn the cross pole either way.

I had this tent.. set up the garden to test it one night woke up in the morning and there was a big hole in the bottom corner of the inner... can't say I am overly impressed cheep materials failed in an English back garden in the late spring ...... not sure how they would cope with a windy night in the hills

I bought this tent, I found it very small, even for one person, no room for any kit/bags
I took it back and swapped it for the Exlixer 2, but even that was tight for ruck, boots, clothes
    But thanks for posting

Hopefully soon. They have had nothing i can demo for quite a while and I can't even buy one outright as they are having a hard time having any extra stock. Hoping for an Anaris soon!

Kelty Late Start 1 Person tent vs MSR Elixir 1 Person tent is what I've narrowed it down to in my search for my first-time purchase.
I'm having a tough time deciding.
