You learn how, and it takes time to learn. As you ride in NYC you learn the best routes to take, instead of the most congested. It's about riding defensively

It takes a lot of patience, I’m a biker and see idiots walking through the bike lane like it’s nothing but also see other bikers going through sidewalks and stupid drivers but what can you really do about? Just watch every corner and predict movements from cars that’s all
It's traffic like this that makes me wonder why people still flock to that city. Every mode of transportation is very severely over crowded and over worked. There's simply too many people in on area. Eventially something has to give that will make large numbers of people say, to heck with this. I'm living/working in another city region or state. NYC is unresonably expensive or you have to commute to it for hours every day from a hundred miles out. Lots of large businesses have seen the writing on the wall and are closing up shop for less stressful, cheaper surroundings.

That bike lane on the Brooklyn Bridge is wrong on so many leves! How could you even think of taking away pedestrian space and marking a bike lane there? I am a cyclist myself but I understand the bridge is a city icon for tourists. No way you can cycle there without having peds crossing your lane every second. Want to increase cycling as a mode of transport in the city? REDUCE CAR LANES AND GIVE THEM TO CYCLISTS but do not make it hard to walk around.

Most bicyclists take the Manhattan Bridge. Anyone taking the Brooklyn is a glutton for punishment. They should just shut it down and let the tourists use it. Comparing the number of pedestrians to cyclists it makes no sense at all to have a bike lane here.

Everybody is crazy 😂, in Brazil in the city of São Paulo cars are more organized, don't stop in the crosswalk, we don't horn so much, don't close the intersections and São Paulo is bigger than New York, obviously has more traffic, but anyway i love USA and English 💙

I'd like to point out that when a car is driving in a crosswalk packed full of pedestrians, and the car is driving at 1 or 2 or mph, then I would consider that safe. This would not seem intuitive.

Im a biker. If you’re gonna force cars to treat you like any other car (they give you right of way when they’re turning left, etc...) then dont act like pedestrians when its convinent and run red lights, go on the sidewalk to avoid cars, all the traffic laws you broke. You cant have it both ways.

A lot of people think that traffic control cops are stupid but i think that they have one of the most dangerous jobs they risk getting hurt like run over, stuff thrown at them, or getting smooshed by cars crashing. I really think that next time you see one just say thank you.
NYC is a place to visit, not live. It's a hell hole. Too many clashing cultures and personalities, especially with how New Yorkers are in general.

I am not a bike rider, but I would support the banning of private vehicles in the city. They would not be necessary if the city implemented quality public transportation.
General rule of traffic controllers is that you ignore the traffic signs ans follow the traffic controller. Meaning you don't stop at a stop sign if the traffic controller is telling you to move.
Of course this usually implies that any traffic lights are not working, so idk what that traffic controller was doing.
I'm so glad I live in Kansas. I dont even see that much traffic or people in one screen frame in a whole week.

I notice you ride the 59th street bridge alot and I haven't run into you yet because I ride it almost every day for my exercise ride and I stop at the little Deli Blue Bird on the Manhattan side for a coffee and a bagel and then continue on down 2nd ave towards Brooklyn bridge and back to queens.
I haven't been riding that bridge lately but maybe I'll run into you someday!
Ha, he likes to show the crossover at the Queens side of the 59th street bridge. It was hell there before they had all those fancy bike lanes. You had to ride with traffic till you hit the bridge, now that was adventure.

It’s more of the inconvenience I wanted to show. There’s many traffic agents in that area to keep traffic moving and intersections clear, but it’s very challenging there.
If a traffic agent waves a car through while people are crossing and a pedestrian gets hit, they'll get a big payout from suing the city.
