It has to be because NYC is still really densely populated. If cars is main transportation then you have like 1+ hour traffic for like 30 min drive or no spaces for extra cars.

Why do you and so many other of cyclists like you fail to yield to pedestrians in crosswalks and swerve and weave around them? I don't. I yield. And also you running red lights whether bike signals, standard traffic lights, or pedestrian crossing signals. I mean, at 9:14 and some other instances you yielded pretty good like you're supposed to and let them cross, that woman was worried you were going to fly past her.
In US, isn't it compulsory for cyclists to stop at red lights? OR if you are in a bike lane you can if no cars are coming? I was quite surprised. Anyway, great ride, I enjoyed it. 😊
from what i know, in most places it’s not specifically allowed but also not necessarily prohibited. a few states do allow you to do the “idaho stop” (treat red lights and stop signs as yield signs) but most have no specific legislation about it. it IS supposed to be safer though for cyclists
