First of all...I never lived in Anaheim. My garage was in Norwalk , California about 20 miles away. We did play our first gig in Anaheim though. That is not me playing bass. I played with a pick. This is someone who played with his fingers. I would guess that this is a practice with Cliff Burton shortly after I quit the band. Take care , Ron McGovney

I have been told by an old friend that this really is me playing bass, and it is from the Whisky a Go Go. The sound kind of threw me. I guess I had more distortion on my bass that night. I did play it with a pick.

@@redrocket9861 yeah I kinda agree but you have to consider the advancement in technical players and availability of musical education. Dimebad for instance learned his picking from Michel batio video. I realize this is probably only what 86? But Hammet had very fast European licks in like 81. I realize he had lessons from Satch. He was good. Still good but uninteresting IMHO and didn't improve. Mustaine was absolutely terrible on the demo and live with Metallica. I think being around guys like Poland kicked his ass into high gear, not to mention getting kicked out of your band.. so he was very motivated to improve. Dave was always and still is amazing on rhythm guitar

Actually, this is the earliest live recording of Metallica. They auditioned at the Whiskey-a-go-go so they could get a gig there, and this is that audition (key word: audition. Not a live wit an audience). They didn't play another song. They got the gig with this one.

fantastic point that you have made. Metal has no rules and can at times evade being defined. Metal is art, and a lifestyle. Too many people get caught up in who sold out, who is heavier, faster, more evil, more technical, more organic, who fuckin' cares. Listen to what you like when you like. If someone tells you what is better or more pure, be totally Metal and tell them to fuck off as you turn it up.

Look folks , you can really hear the first 2 albums of Def Leppard influence in this song especially when the No Remorse No Regret chorus comes in . Dave Mustaine is an amazing riff master and rhythm Guy . But you can really tell that he was just winging it on his weak solos . He was just too redundant in his solo licks , and they weren't loud or intense enough . Kirk changed all of that . He raised the volume of the intro and middle of the song solo of the song where it was bold . He supercharged / intensified the solo with more gain / loudness , and added new parts to the solo that just had a smoother flow through out the licks .

All any one has to do is listen to those horrendous Mustaine solos on the original Metallica Demos / Concerts . I've heard teen agers on You Tube play better . Listen to those horrendous Mustaine solos on that Pantera Tribute Concert Dave put on in the 2000s . Listen to those horrendous solos Dave put on for that 30th Anniversary Metallica Concert in San Francisco in 2011 . Don't try to fight it , It's all there hahaha . Kirk purpously had to let Dave do the solos in that 30th Anniversary Concert because Dave would have walked off the stage in a huff if Kirk did them right , and upstaged Dave hahahaha

Well, that's just paternal instinct at work, really: to compare things on the the basis of what's better and superior and what's worse and inferior, no matter how valid or practical or useful the comparison is. Like how some people will even compare King to Hanneman in Slayer or Murray and Smith (Maiden) to Downing and Tipton (Priest). Or even better that I've seen, Tipton to Downing, as if it makes any sense at all. I think it's just a guy thing, but as a guy you need to have solid opinions.
