      Yeah! I can actually see myself using this. I think if you put the ice directly from the device right into the blue center piece it won't stick together as much if at all, as in this case it was allowed to melt a little bit. The hemispheres are a nice size and shape and I don't like the larger cubes so this actually seems like it could be decent now. Large ice trays, while taking up less room due to stacking, take up more room overall whereas I could just stick this one container in my freezer and not worry about it being awkward since I don't really need more than one. I think for a single person or a couple, it would be great. I also just love gadgets though, so if you're more about convenience it's not great, but personally I'd consider getting one now.

      Frying ice cream works pretty reliable. The idea is fast caramelization accomplished by short contact with very high temperatures, so the core actually stays frozen in most recipes. As you might have guessed, that only works with very high sugar products like, well, most ice cream.

      It's less about the cylinder being more effective than stacking trays, and more about having the bin and tray in one single unit. If you crack ice trays into a bin (or zipper bag like I do), it DOES save room to have them in one unit. I'm not saying that this is a good design as it stands, it's not. But if they address the design flaws, it might be useful. The new version IS a great improvement over the old one.

      My cubes get freezer burnt if I forget to bag them and you can crack the trays pretty easily and if you don't get a rubber bottomed one the ice can get stuck a lot of products dont need to be remade but we have a butter slicer a butter stick a butter shredder when we already have a butter knife

  • @JaNeLLeJuSTiNe
    @JaNeLLeJuSTiNe 3 года назад +2

    Well as for the ice sticking together, that has more to do with it melting on the plate before storing it back. The water between the cubes fused. I don't think thats a design flaw of the product, more about how the ice was handled in-between popping out and storing back into the freezer.

    I think with any version of the ice genie is just beating a dead horse. I use a lot of ice and am happy with the dollar store version. It has to be said that you gave them (all versions of ice genie) a fair chance but they bit off to much to chew properly. Thanks for your great reviews. I enjoy them very much. Reading instructions is important and you are the only one I have seen that follows that concept. Thanks again.

    You can probably pour water into the main cup and then add the displacement insert to make the process easier and less mess-prone. That being said, I'm going to stick with my low profile ice trays.

    I've bought it.. But I discard the plastic container and pour water directly into the silicone until full. When it freezes I just hammer it away makes a lot and more abstract shape.

    On the new one, put the water in to cover 80% of the bottom ball, then put the bucket in and lid on. The bucket pushes the water up so you don’t have to try and pour it into the rim. Freeze. Smack it on the counter 3 times to loosen bucket. Works like a charm and is less messy than trays.

    First thing I thought when I saw the new one was making ice cream in it. Put milk and blended fruit (or chocolate) in the main chamber and salt in the smaller one, put the lid on and shake it. Maybe it would work, maybe not, but if you can get the milk to get cold enough (shaking it or rolling it makes it so bigger ice crystals don't form which makes it smooth). If you get a smooth texture you can then put it in the freezer and have ice cream balls.

    It seems to me this ice genie is better for spaces that have chest freezers or places where a flat position ice cube tray is not useable. But the new one is a vast improvement from the old.

    The new design allows for you to pour warm water inside the blue cup to help it break loose if you don't store the already made ice inside. But why? For any of them, why? It poorly solves a problem that absolutely nobody had. At least it makes for great reviews by my favorite "As Seen On TV" reviewer. Great video as always!

    I have the original and in order to avoid the hockey puck you have to turn it over and seal the inner chamber from the bottom. There’s a groove it sits in and the best way to make sure it’s pushed all the way in is upside down

    My favorite way to make ice in the freezer: fill up 3-ounce dixie cups with water, and put them in a bin. You end up with lovely big round cylinders of ice that are the perfect size for a mixed drink or whatever.

    My local Dollar store now sells ice cube trays with the soft bottoms, so even if you can't bend the tray you still have a better option for less.

  • @jaehaspels9607
    @jaehaspels9607 3 года назад

    My original ice genie came w/ an inner cylinder. I use it all of the time because I don't use ice a lot. It only takes an hour to make the ice. To break the initial seal, I just lean on the whole thing against the counter. It's just enough ice for my 1 glass of beverage. Sometimes I'll make more than 1 batch and the ice stores nicely in the center cylinder. I don't seem to have the problems you show. The shape is great in my freezer because it's more compact than oblong ice trays that you can't put stuff on top of.

    I have two different ice cube trays. The OG dollar store one and 3 square-ish silicone ones that make perfectly shaped cubes of ice. The cubes are smaller and idk how much by volume it makes in comparison to the dollar store one, but they're small enough to fit in a small-mouthed water bottle and they're easy to get out. You bend the trays at each junction to loosen them up and crack any surface ice that formed, and then you can pop them out from underneath the tray using your finger. My only qualm with the silicone trays is that the plastic lids (like the ice genie) do not fit well on the silicone. They pop off and the plastic actually bends and warps because of the cold, but the lid isn't required for the trays to work and they do just enough work to protect the trays from sticking to each other when stacking, which I guess is the only purpose of the lids lol They're relatively cheap and you can find them on amazon in various different shapes, sizes, and colors.

    Put the water in first, then the center piece. It will overflow, but you don't have to mess with trying to pour it into the tiny crevasse and it will only overflow until you get down how much liquid you can put in.
