    The hexagonal prism tray was hard to get the ice out of because it was rubber. All rubber ice trays are like that. Plus, who ever needs all the ice at the same time? It's more convenient to be able to remove one ice at a time than have all the ice fall out when you're trying to get a few pieces for a water bottle.

    • @SDM17RG
      @SDM17RG 5 лет назад +11

      They're easy to get out if you use a little bit of brain power. After you hit the bottom on the counter, with the lid still in place, flip it upside down on the counter and push on the bottom. Flip it, take the top off and pour them out.

    • @starrysock
      @starrysock 5 лет назад +24

      but... you can easily take just one icecube out of the others too? Just hold them right side up when you crack them so they don't fall out. Icecubes stay in place and you're free to just pick them up with your hands, or if you really need to, dump all at once. Never heard of a person who struggled with taking one icecube out of a normal tray
      The hexagon one isn't perfect either. A bunch still fell out when he turned it over so it's not like you can just hold it upsidedown and push them out one by one, because they're probably going to spill

In fact, I've also got her even older ones that required a hook-like thing that released the ice, 2 cubes at a time (it works kind of similar to the handle he pulled on his metal one, but doesn't release the whole tray at once) .
      That said, I like my trays similar to his dollar store ones best, and am only saving the metal ones for the antique sale value someday. My hands hate the metal ones now, but I did use the metal ones until a couple years ago, when my carpal tunnel started acting up.

    The stainless steel tray is one you have to know how to use. You are supposed to run water over it and then use the handle release and it will work perfectly well. Many of the kitchen contraptions were made out of aluminum in the past.

    The honeycomb would actually be nice cause you do not normally take all the ice cubes out at once. If you only need a couple for your glass then you poke them out real quick and do not need to worry about all the others falling out or making a mess.

    • @Roonasaur
      @Roonasaur 5 лет назад +4

      I bought a pair of silicone ice trays not long ago . . . the thing doesn't have a raised lip around the outside, so I'm always spilling when filling. And the ice chambers are using a common wall, so there's not nearly as much play to twist the thing and get them to pop out as you would think with silicone. Furthermore, the water would expand irregularly into the flexible walls, meaning that the cubes would bulge into the neighboring pockets and make removal difficult. Each cube fit into the next like a key into a lock.
      And - as if that weren't enough - with no void space between cubes, just the one silicone wall, there wasn't enough play in the tray to get air in behind the cubes, so they got held in by suction. I literally had to push and pull each cube out individually.
      I went back to my cracked, leaking dollar store tray after just one batch. :/

      Ice bins are made so that they can hold the ice from several batches of ice at a time.

      I remember the metal ice cube trays but ours were made of aluminum instead of stainless steel. I remember if you filled them too full they wouldn't work. We thought we upgraded when we got plastic trays.

    • @mddell58
      @mddell58 5 лет назад +2

      *The cruel, aluminium type, would break the ice cubes into shards, that tried to slit your wrists!! Not to mention, your fingers would stay stuck to the tray, IF you touched it for more than 3 seconds,... Skin was actually left on the tray sometimes!! OUCH!! The 60's were awesome,....But, NOT those trays!!*

      @@mddell58 Yeah my grandparents had the aluminium variety, you had to make sure your hands were 100% dry because its such a good heat conductor. They ended up getting rid of it after our aunt ran it though the dishwasher causing it to turn black with oxydation.

      @@stellarmetal6566 no problem, I do the same . I never seen someone use all the ice cubes in one shot, so that two to four ice cubes at a time for the honeycomb style is a good option, specially for old folks they just hit the tray on the counter and poke each ice cube individually.

      I own & really like the honeycomb trays. Pressing the ice out one by one is NOT that big of a deal!!! I can press out 1 or 2 as needed or all 34 all at once. I turn it over onto the lid & press each individual bottom. When I turn it back over, I have as many cubes as I need!!! These cubes seem to increase the coldness too.

Of course, it does take nearly the whole tray to fill your glass, and I wish they had a lid, but you get 3, so it’s okay. They’re handy little trays. Interesting that you mentioned choosing them from Amazon reviews, because that’s exactly how I found them 😊 As always, awesome review!
