    Thanks for the blast from the past. I am in my mid 60s. I remember when I was about 3, my mom would put dippidy do in my hair when she was putting rollers in on Saturday night. I would look presentable for Sunday church. At that age, I did not like the crunchy hair that resulted. But, it always brushed out. The other bit of trivia I wanted to share was how it got it's name. Back in the 50s when this stuff first came out it was marketed as a duel use product. You could use it as a thickener for your dips for chips, or as a gel for your hair. I can still hear the commercial....Use it for your dip. Use it for your do. Use it for your Dippity-Do!

      I, too, remember that Dippity Do, but not the commercial.
      So it was actually safe to eat? How weird!

      😂😂😂😂 Me as well! I used this stuff with the giant rollers, or orange juice cans in my hair to make it straight back in the 70’s. Those were the best times! Now I love my curly hair! 😊

    • @ltvanburen8555
      @ltvanburen8555 7 месяцев назад +2

      No, you cannot eat it. I think the Dippity comes from dipping your fingers in the jar to scoop out the product. They sound like great products! Her hair looks fantastic!

  • @aprildegele1510
    @aprildegele1510 6 месяцев назад +2

    OMG!! I had NO idea Dippity Do was still being made. When I was a kid, this was a green gel that we used with foam rollers or when doing pin curls. That was in the 70's. No shampoo, no conditioner. Just styling gel. I haven't seen it for years. OOOhhh ... the consistency of the gel hasn't changed one bit! Used to be green. For decades there was only one product. I like the pink. I bet it still makes the same cast. Looks like it should. Brushing through that stuff was a nightmare. Now, we know better than to brush.
    What a trip down memory lane! Thanks so much.

    Dippity Do is one of my favorite gels! It always gives me the best results. I always use a cream, leave in or primer with it. I have 3b, normal medium porosity hair My favorite part about it is that it doesn't contain heavy butters or oils. I can actually control the amount of moisture with another product.

    • @gabriellelafranceschina6558
      @gabriellelafranceschina6558 Год назад

      Love the Dippity Do gel as well... started using in summer '22 and I use it regularly. I have fine, color treated high porosity hair that easily weighs down and this works great. Just a small amount of leave-in or serum underneath and done :) (I don't use cream stylers) I do wash and condition with other products though, I keep these as light as possible, so not specific 'curl products' because they tend to be more moisturizing (=weight).

    I like to use their curl boosting mousse (it's a foam) like a curl cream & brush it thru followed by their gel & I get fantastic results that last 4 to 5 days with no refresh! Works well with humidity too

    I have always had ugly, frizzy, weird and not straight hair which looks horrible air dried and so blow dry it straight… I’ve tried curly girl before… BUT then I recently found you… and realize I actually have wavy hair… not so much curly… and have been playing with your techniques and they are GAME CHANGERS! I feel like there is lots of curly hair info out there but not really wavy hair info… THANK YOU!!!

    At 41 years old I have just realised that I have wavy hair and have just started styling it wavy instead of straightening it every day. I’m fed up of my hair being dry and damaged.
    These videos are just amazing I nearly gave up up a few weeks ago as I was just overwhelmed with the whole curly girl process and what products to use but these videos have restored my faith and after the trying the brush styling my waves look amazing.
    Would love to know how you pineapple your short hair over night. I struggle with day 2 hair etc and my hair going a bit frizzy as I’m refreshing it with water.

      Awe thank you! It is a journey! I just pineapple like normal but some of the back pieces that are shorter do sometimes fall out or don't make it in. They do get a little stretched out but that's okay. It's still the best method that works for me!

    I think it's so funny-- there are two modifications from the techniques I've learned from your older videos that I've figured out work better for me--separating curl clumps that are too big, and only glazing and scrunching in my styler (no praying hands--that tends to pull out my waves). And I then watch this video and you're doing them! 😁

    I can attest to all your styling techniques. I have wavy--curly fine and low density hair. Wet hair I use a light leave in, scrunching, glazing, brushing upside down away from head and in sections followed by comb, more scrunching, micro-plopping, diffuse and dry scrunch. All these things give me consistently good results. Gonna give Dippitty Do a try. Thx. Your hair looks great

    So funny, because as a teenager I used dippity do whenever I curled my hair (I’m now 69)! I just cut my hair this past week because I decided to give in to the wave/curl, essentially I’m letting it take over rather than always blow drying. I’m learning SO much from these videos (I LOVE RUclips), and have discovered much more curl in my hair than I ever realized that I had.

Loved how your hair turned out ESPECIALLY on Day 2. I'm not a fan of how my hair looks on Day 1 (curls are too defined, yeah, I actually like a bit of frizziness for volume...I know weird🤷🏽‍♀️) so I love how you do the after Day 1 update to show how the products did. Oh my gosh, I never knew curly hair could be done without a million different products! My hair has always been mildly wavy, but recently I've started to wonder if it's actually curly and I was just never able to find any products that didn't turn into a hot mess. But after several years of having to shave my hair due to an untreated scalp condition, I'm finally able to grow it back out, and would you believe it if I said that my medicated shampoo and a satin bonnet have made my curls show more than they EVER did back when I was experimenting before? It is still hard to tell because I've only managed to grow my hair out a few inches since starting to grow it again, but I'm definitely gonna keep watching these videos to see if maybe I can find some sort of routine that would work for me! Obviously I can't change my shampoo, but the possibility of finding a conditioner that doesn't leave my hair greasy as well as a styling product? I'm interested in trying! I'm also gonna share these videos with my little sister because she has really curly hair but hates the effort of a million products. Thank you!

    I'm a couple months in to my hair journey and have transitioned from Cantu back to Nexxus about a week ago - they have a line that's sulfate/silicone free. My logic was that I was having a ton of trouble with wet frizz that I definitely did not have prior to this journey, and I feel like the shea butter was weighing my hair down. I've used a few different lines over the years (mostly dependent on my income at the time) but growing up we used Biolage for shampoo and Nexxus's Humectress for conditioner and I always find myself drifting back towards them because they do make my hair feel healthy and happy.
    Anyways. I would love it if you did a one brand washday with Nexxus products (it's specifically the ultralight line, i believe). Obviously they aren't a brand that is geared towards curly hair so I haven't seen it get mentioned by any curly hair folks.

    Great video! I also have thin, quite porous hair that used to get oily on the second day. But that was until I followed the recommendation suggested by the Blowout Professor to not use “hydrating” shampoo or shampoos containing any oils. Now I’m able to go 3 days before washing and my hair looks great on the second day. I really recommend you to try that also :) just use voluminous shampoo

    I may be asking a question that has already been answered, so I apologize if this is repetitive. For anyone who wants to answer, my hair is about the length of yours, Courtney, but I get mine layered a bit to add volume to the crown area because my hair can be kind of heavy. When I used to straighten it, we would use texturizing shears to thin out my hair to keep it from being so heavy. I noticed this last haircut that she did that, it gave me some unwanted frizz look to it as those tiny hairs that were cut, kind of stuck out and added a texture I don’t like it my curly hair I’m finding. But my main question is, when you curly wavy girls get your haircut or trimmed, do you get it cut dry? Or do they wash and condition first? I am seeing more and more that the hair should be dry. And I feel like that would be the best for me as well. But I thought I would ask to see what you guys get done, before I mention it to my stylist. I don’t think she is experienced working with curly hair, when I first started going to her I was still straightening it. So, I believe this is a journey for both of us.

    I did enjoy seeing you slow it down. I use your method when styling and feel like I might be rushing it a bit too much. This was helpful. Have you tried using other brushes instead of the perfect haircare one? I use the Wet Brush Shower Detangler, and while it is great for detangling my hair, I find it doesn't give as nice of parts as you get. Like it makes it even more clumpy. I do have a perfect haircare brush, but my hair is so thick that I have a hard time brushing through with it. I might try a combination of both next time. What brand of comb are you using?

I know you couldn't use the pillow talk curls cream, that's what I use to refresh, just a small dime size on wet hands and it doesn't make my hair oily but adds the moisture/smoothing I need. I'm sure you know a product you can use for that. I have always wanted to try hair oils.

    If I brush my hair wet and let it go and don’t scrunch it’s a ball of weird fuzz. I never understood that because my daughter never scrunches her hair and it just goes wavy after brushing ( after washing ). If I scrunch with some conditioner and wave spray , it’s very wavy. A nice beach wave. That said, I used to wear my hair straight And my daughter asks me why it has such texture, and I didn’t realize it’s because I had wavy hair. !

    Like you in the least time i don't use a curl cream or leave in just shampoo conditioner or deep conditioner/conditioning and styler.

    How do u figure out the amount of gel? Bc w/ my thin hair it’s easy 2 overdo styling.

    I enjoy these one brand wash days. I also seem to have fine, low porosity hair, but the ends are a bit drier. I have been switching between moisturizing and lighter protein shampoos and find I have a spot at the back if my neck that tends to flash dry . Any suggestions?

    How does this Dippity Do gel compare to the Kinky Curly curling Custard?

    Do you pick or comb your curls after you diffuse them?

      Nope! I just leave them in the cast until I scrunch out the scrunch and fluff! Once, in a while if I have a bigger curl I may separate it.

    My stylist recommends always touching hair with product on my hands. When you are scrunching your crunch, are your hands dry?

      Yep! They are dry but you could use a hair oil or a silk scarf.
