I can’t believe Ethan was 16 during the filming of this part (we’re the same age). I was obsessed with this video. It always made me not just want to go out and skate, but also just enjoy the act of riding a skateboard. It also made me want to shop at thrift stores, visit SF and live in urban areas.
I was just thinking how amazing it would be to go back in time to like 1900 in san francisco with a skateboard, you'd be able to bomb all the hills you wanted and you wouldn't have to worry about getting hit by any cars
I wish that there is another brand that has so much style as Stereo had in the mid 90's. At the time I ttought the brand 'blue' (incl. Jason Lee and Chris Pastras) was the coolest. When Deluxe came out with Stereo, I was proven wrong. I still strongly belive that Stereo also helped pushing skate artist to a higher and new dimension. Awesome stuff!
Best all-around skate company/team from that time by far. Obviously bLind was sick in the early Gonz/J. Lee days as well, but Stereo had a complete and fully formed aesthetic. I’m actually kinda surprised Gonz didn’t join Stereo instead of Real in 1996 or whenever that was; that would’ve made more sense, even though I liked Real a lot as well. I also wish the rebooted Stereo Sound Agency would have been through Deluxe because they make the best boards.
@@bennyshambles So true! Didn't Gonz have 60/40 before REAL and Jason Lee and Chris Pastras had 'Blue' before Stereo. Both were great companies as well. Basically they were all connected to 'Deluxe' distribution at the time, as far as I can remember. Nowadays it's different. I never forget the style in Ethan Fowler's or Matt Rodriguez's part. Actually they were all sick parts at the time! Damn... I really like having these memories.
whole video is amazing and why are people even talking about mike mo and malto, etc? skateboarding is so multifarious, theres room for everyone, without anybody ruining anything more kids are skating today because of bam and sheckler than ever before. what the hell is so wrong with kids finding something as liberating as skateboarding? because they started skating because they saw a tv show? you didnt just start with no inspiration, someone had to have inspired you to try to skate.
I don't think you can find it for sale anywhere, it's one of Chris Pastras' friend's dad's band from back in the day, the band is called Ululation and I searched all over the internet for a cd a while ago and found nothing, unfortunately.
its strange cause if u watch his foundation part, its amazing, well good trick selection ect, but it doesnt make you want to go out and skate like this part does
the people that do it for the wrong reasons generally quit early or dont progress because you have to give it your all to get anywhere in skateboarding.
didn't say anything about anyone skating for the wrong reasons, and he got to where he is today by skating for a very long time. He didn't start skating to get famous. Anyone who actually does that is most likely going to fail miserably.
I posted a few clips from back in this era if anyone wants to check them out. Real street skating was short lived, once xgames and all the video games started coming out skating went corporate and was never the same.
why does everyone have to find a way to bring up sheckler on any video fowler has nothing to do with sheckler if you dont like the kid quit talking about him
The entire soundtrack was performed by a late-80s NYC Jazz group called Ululation. If you have a couple hundred bucks to drop, you can get the LP here: www.discogs.com/Ululation-Ululation/release/3144980
Um, Bob Dylan? Maybe slightly. Dylan Rieder? No fucking way, dude. Dylan Reider was a preschool kid when this came out. More likely early Ethan Fowler, and the Stereo aesthetic in general, influenced Dylan Rieder in 2009-2016 (RIP). BTW, what’s up with your profile picture? Are you a fan of The Sound “Jeopardy” (1980) album or did you just “bite” the image?

this was my neighbor/best friend's favorite skateboarder. we lost him in 2015. i miss him everyday...
Excellent skater, way ahead of his time.
Besides skateboarding it is an exceptional example for quality cinematography and decent music
The music was actually a local jazz band ! So we will never find it anywhere but here
best street part ever! visual sound owns
his style and consciousness of how he does he tricks just amazes me for '94
Ahhh the best of the 90s. Fowler was great. My fave during my skate days.
I love Ethan's part in this video
I was just thinking how amazing it would be to go back in time to like 1900 in san francisco with a skateboard, you'd be able to bomb all the hills you wanted and you wouldn't have to worry about getting hit by any cars
Raymond Babbit prolly wouldn’t be too smooth hha
yeah but like six years later there was a huge quake and fire that nearly destroyed the city. Look it up.
There were still lots of trolleys, so...
man to skate like ethan for a day: cruise the whole city, ollie every planter, bench, all the things.. dig it
That street gap at 2:56 is HUGE!! I was so blown away at that. I used to skate there all the time.
This is amazing, it's so great to see someone doing something different in skateboarding. I miss these days
i like how after a lot of his tricks you just see him pushing afterwards which make it just look so chill
Every time I see that tre street gap Im like did that really happen

smooth style and finesse mixed with great jazz. I love the film quality and his cruising style.
hey, ethan, did you see that? ...Jack kerouak himself commented!
this part still makes me wanna go out and skate like crazy 20 years after!

Far out. Stereo has the most conceptual vids out there. This is like...amazing.
here in 2022. This part aged like a fine wine. Ethan is simply amazing.

yes he did film it in 2 weeks, and no his newer parts are not as good
*very rare*
Great Memories!!
this is awesome ! its also really funny for some reason ...
So ahead of his time.
hey guys, i'm looking for the matt rodriguez part of this video
This was when people skated because they wanted to, not because they saw it on tv or at the fucking mall.
its strange cause if u watch his foundation part, its amazing, well good trick selection ect, but it doesnt make you want to go out and skate like this part does
wasn't he on acid when he filmed that intro part? remember hearing that somewhere
You got it, chief.
Pretty sure it's from a band called Ululation. Everything was them or Tommy G. in this video.
dude was 16 and filmed this in two weeks
super sport / style lighthearted / intense / calm
I love this song.
hey,jack'
you should check Neal Cassady's part in this video.he's skates vert like a savage!
mmmh,,,,and:
do we all turn black when we die?
the people that do it for the wrong reasons generally quit early or dont progress because you have to give it your all to get anywhere in skateboarding.

His style was ahead of his time, it didtnt even look like he was a skater from the early 90s

This video has Mark Gonzales written all over it.
Videos days part
The entire A Visual Sound video is heavily Gonz inspired, obviously.
didn't say anything about anyone skating for the wrong reasons, and he got to where he is today by skating for a very long time. He didn't start skating to get famous. Anyone who actually does that is most likely going to fail miserably.
How did skating get so big in San Francisco?

fowler has nothing to do with sheckler
if you dont like the kid

you cant compare sheckler to david gonzales no way. that guy is raw raw raw.

this guy is totally biting dylan
+Fred Zepplin fool was definitely team handsome first. his early foundation days show that
He was biting Dylan before Dylan was even born
Um, Bob Dylan? Maybe slightly. Dylan Rieder? No fucking way, dude. Dylan Reider was a preschool kid when this came out. More likely early Ethan Fowler, and the Stereo aesthetic in general, influenced Dylan Rieder in 2009-2016 (RIP).
