    Love watching you work mate but be careful when switching the disconnect on and off between moving the crocodiles between the phases as you don’t know if the disconnect is still working after switching it back and forth! In hindsight you could have rigged 3 test leads up to the phases after safe isolation then closed the cover before switching on! Could also verify phase rotation at the same time that way too

    over here is usa in our factory i have run in both metal conduit and armored Mc cable 500 mcm which is equal to the 240 you talked about. and that was aluminum so less flexible . got it on a big spool trippled . pulled it through the conduit wire with 1/4 inch wire rope and a forklift to pull it. the MC was easier as it runs on a crane support rail on arms welded to the bottom of the I beam. but still pull it with a forklift.

    Cool to see the calculation program, the one I’m using isn’t that detailed. Running 240 in anything other than underground conduits is a pain. Did calculations for 800A supplies many years ago and ended up running 4x120 to make it workable on the trays and going into the breaker. Fortunately I didn’t have to run those myself but I had to run a 2x120 for a microwave oven a few years after that, the pure joy of being self employed

    Great video. As an Electrical Engineer designing HV/LV Distribution myself I’d always limit my multicores at 185mm2 to give you guys a chance at installing it! Anything bigger I go singles or parallels if using FP cables.
    Any reason why you decided not to pull a dedicated separate CPC in addition to the armour? As a designer I’m always skeptical about relying solely on the armour as the CPC. Thanks!

      While I fully agree with and support pulling a dedicated CPC purely for redundancy, a conductor is a conductor, so relying on the armor isn't that big of a stretch.

      @ as I work primarily in a healthcare sector, HTMs advise against the use of relying on an integral metallic sheath as the sole earth return path. I guess this has followed through into all my work as good practice

      in the video he used both of the blue cores of both swa"s as an earth conductor so way over the size of earth required.

    Wasn't that more of a Zdb that you done, with all parallels to earth removed the true Ze could be 0.04

    One of the features of the Kewtech multifunction testers, which is not helpful, in the way you wanted to test, is the built-in averaging of loop preceding tests. If you leave it set to loop setting, every time you press the test button, it performs the test, and displays the average over all the preceding tests. To get individual readings, you have to deselect and reselect the test, and then press the button. So what you actually got was a reading for L1, then the average of L1 + L2, and then the average of L1 + L2 + L3. I was not aware that the continuity null of the leads, could be used on subsequent loop tests. I will have to try that out.

    Great presentation. A couple of things to consider. If supply is from a public network, the Ze can change due to network changes. If quite close to the transformer, the Ze could be really low and generally, MFT accuracy isn't, so a low reading could have quite variation from the actual value. Accuracy not to be to be confused with resolution.

      Thanks! Yeah I agree, I should’ve mentioned that the high resolution mode does increase the test current also for a more accurate result and can obtain pfc’s up to 50ka.
      Obviously it’s not going to keep up against a 1000a network impedance tester but it’s better that the tiny test currents most MFT’s kick out.

    I would have gone tri rated double insulated, the swa’s will be a pain in the ass, all the recent 185/240’s I have bought have been stiff as not like older cable.

      That would be a dream haha! I completely agree but unfortunately they want SWA, it’s more than do able though, just will involve a bit of graft!

    Most informative! Quick question regarding using the armour as CPC (if you choose to do so). Once the cables are glanded off, will you connect a fly lead of suitable CSA (greater than 71.58mm in your case) from the banjo to the earth bar? Or would the metallic casing of the panel be adequate?

    Is the lead nulling done on continuity transferred over to the loop function? I have just read some of the manual and it doesn't say anything about that, it just says the test lead can be selected between a mains lead and distribution board leads. That is pretty exceptional if they have built it to do that. Looking at the accuracy specification on high loop PE measurement it is specifying 3% + 25 mOhm, so that last digit is potentially meaningless.

    Personally ide installed tri rated double insulated four or three core cables , run separate cpc far easier to pull and bend ect …no need for swa it’s out of reach and highly unlikely to be damaged, lid ladder rack if needed 😮😊😊😊😊😊. Swa is not required. Hardly use it anywhere apart from back in the dark ages Uk .😂😂😂😂 remove panel under main switch get zdb I bet it’s lower 👍

      I wish we could, but they want SWA for the incoming, i would argue it’s more at risk than your typical installation due to the nature of the place (I can’t talk about what they do) but they laid out a bullet proof spec for us regardless.
      It will be hard work but more than do able with a bit of graft.
      I would love to get a ZE of the incomer but we needed to do it safely, we are connecting onto that specific breaker so that worked great in this situation and we could do it without any spicy works 👍🏼

      I had worked in industry for 45 years and can’t think of anywhere I have worked where that would have allowed. All armoured out in the factory area. It’s got a good size gland box on that breaker panel what’s the issue ? Let’s face it 40 mts of 185 or even 240 isn’t that big a deal for pulling in. Above that yes it start to get abit heavy. On big projects even the contractors used to get the cable gangs in, don’t know what they cost but they made cable pulling look child’s play.

    Do you find EOM worth it? I manually the cable calcs fine, but I’m interested in it for drawing site distribution if it’s better than normal CAD software for that?

      I personally think so, the drawings are built based on the circuits you build beforehand, you can then customise them to your liking.
      There is a whole reports builder which you can tailor for each project, it has all the schedules, calculations, cable/circuit, compliance certificates and so much more, you can customise it all with your branding too 👍🏼

      @@residualelectrical Sounds ideal! Given me something to think about.. unfortunately I think I’d have to go for the “professional” tier due to the size of some of the site I work on but there we go. At least I could sell them some updated drawings! Most are on pen and paper ahaha

    a few thoughts on these videos
    when filling in the tripping values for the mcb surely it would be the circuit designers who know what it is to be used for and the cable type etc who would know what to set these not the panel builders unless they were told all of those details before when building the panel,I have not used this make of mcb and have not come across any make where you can seal these settings.
    yes it would have been better to use a spreader box or an enclosure to allow the cables to be spread rather than bending them at such an acute angle as all cables have a min bending radius and having to hit them with a hammer should not be done,but we have all been there and done it the fault lies with the panel builders but hey ho it is not there problem but the poor electrician who is landed in the shit!
    There is no requirement to use the same crimp tool and crimps from the same company as surely they should be made to the same standards but who knows
    The building owner is breaking the Hse or Factories act by having that machine in front of the main switchboard and not leaving a 1 meter gap for its operation.
    The earthing of the swa is fine as it is only an extraneos part as the main earth is the two blue cores of the swa and remarked as G/y .
    I have done this job for 40 yrs and have also done some of these things that i should not have done but as it is all down to the last person in any chain that gets to try and make up for every one else who did not do their job correctly and there is never enough time left at the ending of a job to be perfect and it is that last person who gets the blame or sack.
