its still mind blowing how detailed they made Devastator.
more like computer blowing

Bro the overall transformers CGI is still to this day if not the best CGI I have ever watched - To this day I am still impressed
@@yeahyeah410it's so realistic, like how are the textures so realistic
@@nickryan6787 True
Michael really walked in like "not good enough" after this thing demolished the departments hardware 💀bro tf you want them to do?
Bay recognizes what a good CG looks like, so I'll give him props for that.
@@Iloveyou-dz7mqTRUE FACTS
Exactly what they ended up doing:D
It's probably not the model's fault for defective hardware components. No way a computer just burns if the workload is too high. There are mechanisms to prevent that.
I know people loves Dark Of the Moon. But Revenge of the Fallen is still my favorite. Optimus was so BADASS in that movie.
A badass in an ass movie
@@Zygomatic_Boltthe movie is definitely not good but I love it
GIVE ME YOUR FACE
My fav is age of extinction
fallen was actually scary
absolutely mind blowing. this was very impressive for 2009
Impressive? This was REVOLUTIONARY. People don't give the Transformers franchise enough credit for changing cinema.
It still is
Still is unbeatable in such a quality VFX.
2024 and arguably the champion of CGI (in the category of realistic giant movie robots).
for 2009 ? dude this level of cgi is still unbeaten
So much respect for these guys and Michael. ROTB could have used them to make the action good.
Legend says that "Devastator_high_res" is still loading on that PC to this days...
Best and iconic Decepticon!!!!!!😊😊😊😊😊
Balls of steel !
@pricemoore2022 um actually they are constructicons 🤓
did nothing, then died
mark of a true decepticon
Transformers movie have some of the best vfx of any movies
Its crazy how the 3 first bay movies still look better than the recent ones. The CGI is just great.
So true !!! ❤
Top-of-the-line PC hardware in 2009 for a home PC would have:
> Intel Core i7 or AMD Phenom II X4/X6 series
> NVIDIA GeForce GTX 285 or ATI Radeon HD 5870
> 6GB to 12GB of DDR3 RAM
I know ILM had render farms to deal with the final output but for sure its no wonder they said it took sometimes an hour to save their 3d file a project of that magnitude at that time would've been hell to work with and go knows how laggy that file got when the model had all its high res textures and maps applied.
Meanwhile my rtx 3070 wouldn't even sweat doing that. Hardware has come a long way
Pretty sure it would be in tears lmao, high res fotoreal CGI is still pretty taxing
@@Carrion0409 I can assure you my 4090 would sweat so your midgey cricket certainly would
@@Carrion0409 The geometry is loaded by the disc and processor, the GPU is used for load textures or render in most cases, so your 3070 would sweat for sure if your other hardware couldnt handle the file
we need a devastator pc stress test
By today's standards, a phone could render this. This was almost 20 years ago. The average video game has scenes 100x as complicated as this now.
@@shotwell25fr? I thought that even a modern high-level pc would stress a lot
@@Pagano33 fuck no not even close. It wouldn't be done instantly or anything, but it could render it pretty much effortlessly very quickly
@@shotwell25 *WTFK are you talking about? LOL*
This thing has more geometry in itself that the whole map in RDR2, wich render engine (RAGE) literally needs to unload objects and other stuff to prevent our PCs from crashing... and youre saying that "a phone could render this" HELL NO 🤣
@@arieldario3849 Kids just don't understand
Unpopular Opinion but this Design for devastator is 100x time better than his G1 counterpart.
true...
At this point this is completely different from the original character. Only the name is the same, and the fact that he is made out of construction vehicle Decepticons.
What? No, it never will be. This design could've easily been the greatest in the movie franchise, but no, they had to give him those balls for comedic reasons
Yes
Personally' the design for devastator is so good and fits his g1 lore, but i really wish they explored the bots that made up devastator bc they are a well of lore. Most of the designs in the movies from 1-3 are amazing but fell off in 4 and 5 (excluding the dino bots in 4 bc they were amazing). They did my boy jetfire so dirty tho.
Safe to say that the Devastator literally destroyed the computers because of how many components he was made up of
I am always in awe with the vfx of these movies. Brilliant minds especially for 2009.
This will always be my favorite devistator design
I dont care what other people and critics say about BayVerse Transformers movie. It was majestic!
*HECK YEAH*
every transformers movie is badass accept rise of the beast which is recent released.
the efforts they put in these movies at that time is so mind blowing. nowadays movies hardly achieve this realistic-ness
I have, but haven't seen, Rise of the Beast, but everything that I have seen of the scenes makes me kind of regret getting it (albeit 10 bucks on black friday).
I miss the bayverse 😢
This was very much my favourite of all the Transformers, for the scale and complexity as well as all the Sick Optimus accessories.
A close-up with unicron would have nuked the whole studio
This video did put a lot of things into the perspective, VFX/CGI guys are the soul of these movies, just WOW!
I really like this movies, my childhood are in this movies :)
I love this how they made in so much detail
absolutely masterpiece
Fantastic
These aren’t great movies but you must admit that the effects are just incredible, better than some movies today.
Christ, Michael Bay can't have a CG scene in his films without causing an explosion in the real world!
as convuluted as these movies got, the CGI never failed to amaze, it is ILM so thats no biggie but damn
CGI really peaked in the mid-late 2000s. We have directors like Peter Jackson, James Cameron and Michael Bay that actually understands the use of VFX that people in the future would still appreciate. Nowadays, the superhero era movies with their cheap looking CGI is something that brings market becoming oversaturated.
all this just to appear for less than 30 seconds
A bit disappointing how niche screen time was given to such a time-consuming asset
Wait until you see the big futuristic CG cities, cars, and even ships created for Blade Runner 2047 which was barely visible behind the fog and the dark of the night LOL
Ok now I just want an IMAX ratio of this film 😭
You can still find the IMAX version of the Blu Ray if you buy used.
Unfortunately the 4K version isn't the IMAX version for whatever reason.
Imagine if we gave these people our modern technology to make this film (threadripper pro rtx 4090 or something) could only imagine what else they'd have been able to accomplish
Imagine if we gave VFX artists the proper time and money for the work they put in instead of giving the slave wage for slave hours. Seriously, the VFX has gone downhill since the 2010s.
they have all that crap and what you see on Disney+ is what you get. A lot of really good people left ILM and VFX in general after 2010. It's a factory of kids who work cheap now. Still some good people there but far outnumbered.. doesn't help that the projects are shite too.
And this was made in 2009! I wonder how much time will be needed to render with top tier home PC in 2024
Brabo Demais
bro even the action figure.. devastator is the most badass
To this day this was the best decepticon in terms of impressiveness
devestator living up to his name
Jason Smith you absolute legend ❤
"my machine actually completely froze and had a total meldown"
No shit hahahaha
I remember so impressed by this scene, This and Avenger End game scene are the Best
End Game isn't really that impressive. It's just all the known heroes gathered up to fight Thanos and his army. Emotional because we get to see the culmination of all those years put to rest? Absolutely, but it's not impressive.
@@silencedmaxim5889 okay...? It's my opinion dude, fck off
Genial
VFX artist are so uderrated. They make thing like this but people act like "Duh cgi garbage, use special effects instead"
goat movie
All this work... for this movie...
Part of me wishes now that they would rerelease a version of this film on IMAX 70mm
I have a pirate copy of the imax version
dude this model might have nearly 500000000000000000000000000 vertices
It was so realistic back in the day, but now ROTB look so unrealistic. Especially when some of the Maximals were moving fast
back when vfx wasn't a dirty word and studios embraced vfx and proudly showcased the craft and hard work goes into making vfx.
well what about Dune ?
it isn't a dirty word they do it now more than ever
the real question i have is how the fuck did they manage to fling the van
The ways I can think of are: 1. It was attached to a cable, and on the given cue, they retracted the cable, and away the van went, after which, they erased the cable digitally. 2. It was rigged to an air cannon that blasted it up into the air and sent it flying away.
the van was cgi
Look closely in the beginning, a cable is attached to it and I think the crane in the background pulls it back.
modern laptop could load it now lol. still waiting for a proper combiner though
❤
my boss wants the same quality of animation at 200$
i have a question like how the computers are even able to handle the scene ??even if the ram is 128 its still not enough.
I'm not familiar with the programs they used or any specific details but i can make an educated guess. The Assets most likely are low polly on the inside of the Devastator and a lot of parts were probably instanced, meaning it only has to load one part and the other identical parts are very light copy of it computing wise. Also the same textures are most likely used on many parts. Re-using textures can safe a lot of memory.
And Transformers Bayverse doesn't use RTX sh*t to render all of those cgi details *BIG W* 🍷🗿
So that’s why he got less screentime
Back when transformers was good
Constructicons!!!
0:30 i thought that person was ken jeong until i opened the audio
This technology is lost now.
They had 70mm footage in this movie?!?
its quite interesting how the keyboard burnt even though, the file was opened in the cpu
actually
ILM is the same as Nasa when it comes to being the OG's
Even the pros have rendering problems..I feel better now
Jesus I’m surprised devastator was even in the movie.
Fun fact: devastator’s body parts have too much parts or smth that made the computer crash so they put devastator’s body parts in multiple files.
I guess the New Nividia GPUS with the latest AI and Graphic drivers will handle these VFX easily in seconds 😮
in seconds? nuh i don't think so
It'll handle it much better definitely. But in seconds ? I think that's a bit too much to ask
Not so fast but Easy yes
Was that actually real when they asked that guy to open g170 and he came back with a fried keyboard or am I just being autistic?
But can it run crisis 3?
So Devastator can suck up a 2 ton car, but not 2 humans???...yeah, ok!
Transformers before were of better quality than now, why?
loading an object into a piece of software would not kill the computer, if it did, that computer was already broken.
Yeah all those computers just happened to be close to breaking, what a genius you are 🤦♂️
@@kevine9474 listen child, the computer did not break, they're bullshitting. Why would loading an object burn the motherboard? huh? now push off and take a nap.
this was the render that melted the computer right?
PSA: lower the resolution of the video, if you dont want smoke coming out of your PC
And that's why the new transformer universe will never be as good as bayverse
G1 devastator would have been much more impressive. This looks like swamp thing.
This why I'm excited for AI. So it can put the art motive back into movies. Michael Bay looked so unimpressed.
It's because he doesn't directly get his hands dirty he's just a money manager. Not a craftsmen.
No wonder he’s called Devastator 💀
1:27 how does a processor overload smoke a keyboard?
Who is the woman? I want to follow more of her works. Kindly suggest her @?
They gave devastator balls...m😑
comedy is sometimes misunderstood
All this work for a blurry messy sequence. The models, render and animations are amazing, how they were used was a waste of resources and time. It's the director's fault, the way the camera moves erratically, the cuts, everything is so annoying to watch. The work these professionals did deserves more care.
Its scary how one sentence from the director leads to months and months of non-stop overtime work for the VFX team. It sort of makes me hate filmmaking.
More heart and soul than BB and ROTB
more heart and soul went into BB and ROTB as well
@@jgstudios117 HAHAHHAHAHAHHAAHAHA
Nope
The Bayformers movies have ZERO heart put into them (in terms of storytelling), because Michael Bay doesn't care about _Transformers._ Hell, he doesn't even treat the Transformers themselves as characters; more as vehicles (pun intended) for pornographic violence.
_Bumblebee_ had ACTUAL heart and told a story. _Rise of the Beasts_ could've used a bit more work for sure. But I'd rather watch _Bumblebee_ and _Rise of the Beasts_ for the rest of my life than ever watch the Bayformers movies ever again.
@@alobaymarBayformers sucks at story dude, if only he focussed on characters and plot.
Ok who the hell watches transformers for the story lmfao, people only care about the awesome visuals and hot women we don't need story about those robots
Rtx 4090
wish they'd make vfx bts like this in future again but nowadays studios need to pander to the practical elitists and hide and lie about using vfx, remove blue and green screens from bts in the marketing to sell movie tickets and create hype.
WHERE IS THE EXPLOSIONS!
4:05 Nonsense, my laptop can render that in 10 minutes.
Yeah my 4080 can probably run it
I don't like the 'Bayformers' as a concept, neither the movies...because is a mess...BUT the VFX of the first 3 movies are so well done, so much passion and hard work... this was the time when you were going to Cinemas to see impossible things come to life, in High detail... mesmerizing.
hayır bunların hepsi gerçek
Meh… too much detail and not enough design strength. It’s just one big messy dog pile. It’s too much information and your eyes don’t know where to look anymore. A strong design can imply detail without actual geometry density.
They could have saved so many man-hours and resources by ignoring Michael Bay, not designing that pile of loose parts to resemble a monster cat-dog, and just go with the already established pre-existing Devastator design. Even though I fully disagree with the design choices, I respect the amount of labor intensive work the real artists put into it, but not Michael Bay's "vision" for those movies.
Technical marvel, still a visual mess. Sometimes less is more.
Too bad he was completely wasted in the movie. He should have at least destroyed the annoying twins
Devastator design really ugly.
All that work and expertise... And... No effort in the screenwriting.
They could have rewrite the whole script but it was during the writer’s strike so they went with the most crappiest script they ever wrote.
@@PmpmYRde so if there wasn't a writer's strike you're telling me this movie could of been up there with TF1 and DOTM?

0:36 This is so obviously bs, did you really have to make up some dumb story about the computer frying when you loaded the model?
it happened.. Probably because cooling failed though. Working with this model was painful. Like half an hour to load a scene, half an hour to save. Un-hide the wrong group of geo and your machine would run out of memory and crash.
@@macabo This did not happen. The motherboard, hard drive and memory failed because of a crash? That's just not how it works. If a computer crashes it just crashes, you turn it off and on again and it's fine 99.9% of the time, maybe the OS gets corrupted that 0.1% of the time but you just reinstall it. If the cooling fails there's a failsafe to automatically cut power past a temperature set by the manufacturer, even if that wasn't in place the CPU overheating doesn't affect the memory or motherboard.
As a 3D visualizer i can say that its totally bullshit that PC can be burned because of very massive 3D project. It can only be made if they have very old and bad quality components of PC which can die at anytime, not only at hard-working.I had many huge projects on my render station and it can work 100% load many days without stop. Render station at cinema production companys are much more expensive and has more stability than normal home PCs.
i think it was a joke
@@mariuxxxx1 yep
it happened, but I bet it had more to do with a CPU fan failing
High end workstations fail sometimes too.. I've had a liquid cooling line split and spill shit all over 8 $8000 GPUs. This was on a new Boxx rackmount but under warranty so they got to replace it.
So much work for such a shit movie
CHEAP AND BAD CGI! ITS MORE BETTER TO CREATE TRANSFORMERS IN ANIMATION.
