    The thing I like most about this video is the boat. It should be a reminder to everyone that you don’t need an elaborate setup of boat and gear to catch a ton of fish. Presentation practice and patience is what really catches fish.

    One thing that is true for all fishing and I came by this realization slowly. I’m also sure John would agree is location is more important than almost anything. Learning where the fish are, when and why is a huge part of success. I have learned spots through trial and error and good electronics that almost always produce. Some of these spots you could use a 1970s zebco spincast rod and reel and just about any lure and you would catch fish. It doesn’t take a lot of skill once you learn those lessons. Understanding tides, wind and bottom make up of the areas you fish will get you 90 % of the way to success. Variables like depth, retrieve speed and bait are important but not nearly as much as knowing where the fish are. Fish are not that smart, especially schooling fish. Find them, remember where you found them in the past and you will catch them.

    Great video Skinner. How do you feel about the swing hook vs the fixed hook? I've tried the swing hook but missed a decent amount of fish. Another great vid. John. You got me interested in fluke fishing last winter while watching your videos. That spring I set my goal on catching my first fluke from my kayak in Delaware. It was a success. Unfortunately it was my one and only trip. This year I picked up a Quantum 2020 Accurist and two days later headed back to Delaware and landed three fluke, two keepers and one short, all of which I credit to you. Thanks for sharing your knowledge. Can't wait to get back out there.

    Your bucktailing technique for stripers looks a lot more enjoyable than trolling! What is the range of good drift speeds? What kind of bottom were you over? Although bucktails are relatively snag-resistant, does your technique work if there are a lot of boulders and growth? I've seen you employ the vertical snap jigging technique before, but here (except with the new rod) it looks like you cast upstream first - not vertical at all.
    By the way, your videos resulted my personal best 7.5 lb fluke last week (Huntington area). Thank you!

    • @JohnSkinnerFishing
      @JohnSkinnerFishing  2 года назад

      Great on the fluke! These bass were mostly in 15 feet, so I prefer to cast to those. Boulders are zero issue, and I often bucktail around them. Just swim it off the bottom a foot or two. Don't drag or bounce on the bottom.
