No need to have lighting effects and backing dancers. He could just stand there and let his unique voice do it all. I cannot imagine how Hollywood has not made a movie of Roy Orbison . Think of the great songs that would feature in the movie.and the story of his life. This would be a possible Oscar winner if they pick the right person to play the part.
Finding an actor to portray him is one thing, but how are they EVER going to reproduce that magnificent soprano of his??! They'd have to utilize recordings...,
Roy Orbison is the greatest voice I ever heard!! I'm 77 and I've heard them all. Nobody had such a beautiful and powerful sound. His passion connects to your soul. His song A LOVE SO BEAUTIFUL is the most beautiful and would bring tears to anyone listening. I will never hear anyone that great again!!!
I saw him live in the late 60's in New Zealand. Got invited to his concert and being young I was like 'okay' not thinking much of him - to this day I am still enthralled by his presence, talent - he was absolutely amazing.
One of the best live performers ever. Orbison never goofed off on stage or mumbled and fumbled his way through a set. He respected his fans and he gave them his best.
Not only did Roy perform at the highest levels he did it while suffering such heartache. His wife was killed in a motorcycle crash and 2 years later 2 of his 3 children died in a house fire while he was on the road. It take an inner strength to go on after that and he more than went on. Thank you Roy!
Roy , in an interview stated that (paraphrase) no matter what he did in life he would always be remembered for the tragedies in his life . No matter how happy I am . I have a beautiful wife and 2 young healthy sons . I have love and laughter in my life . Roy died on top .
A performer of this caliber doesn't have to twerk, rub his rear end on people, grab their crotch or jump around acting like a fool. They stand and sing with such talent and heartfelt emotion that they bring up memories from your past, the good memories along with the bad. No everyone has the ability to appreciate their talent. Young people of today listening to garbage like rap with never understand. Too bad.
I agree 100% with what you said about Roy, but you clearly don‘t understand where hip hop came from and how it is deeply relatable to a considerable amount of people. I also agree that it‘s not necessary for a good artist to make a big show out of themselves when they‘re actually musically talented, but that doesn‘t mean that all those who do are talentless fools. You‘d have to agree that Lady Gaga and Miley Cyrus are some of the best singers around. They don‘t have to dress or dance like they do to get attention, they just do it anyway. And no matter whether I‘m supportive of that part of the performance, I highly appreciate their singing abilities.
Am a very young 76, listened to Roy since the 60's + still amazed at his ability to perform those incredible high notes with such ease n yes a true gift from Rock n Roll Heaven...
I was lucky to have seen Roy in concert 3 times. The last two times at a small venue. He didn't need dancers, laser shows etc, he just stood there and sang. His voice would lift you out of your seat and drop you back down. I saw grown men with tears in their eyes (me included). Roy was the greatest and this is my all time favourite song.
One thing I love about Roy is just how.. human he was. I mean, he had the voice of an angel, but we was humble, shy, even nervous, and his life was never really "glamorous." Love coming back to watch and listen to this. Roy was well before my time, but this is the first and only performance I've seen which actually sort of made me feel "there."
another humble, shy, not a glamorous life either, but still touring at 63 years young and writing songs and recording is Chris Isaak and his band Silvertone
One thing I notice about Orbison's later videos of his early songs. He sings them in the original keys. Many singers lower the keys as their voices age and they are no longer able to make the high notes. Orbison does them all as he originally recorded them....and can still kill it!!
Such a sad song and yet she went with him and walked away to a beatiful future of ballads that made the world a happy place with a musical geunies roy orbson
For the first couple of minutes this is very good, for the next 30-45 seconds it is great, when he comes back out and sings the ending again it is great ++. Talent on loan from God
He absolutely knocked it out of the park on that second go. I've never heard any other recording of Running Scared where he takes those extra steps up the register. And still so effortless!
I've said it before and I'll keep saying it, it always amazes me how a voice of that magnitude came out of his mouth! He barely opens his mouth! He was a soft spoken man, but he had one of the loudest singing voices ever!
Sarah Kinsey ...I know, right??? My hubby and I have talked about that very thing many times. Normally to get that kind of power behind your voice you have to open your mouth. How did he do it, without opening his mouth??? Don’t have a clue, but wow!!!
In my experience singing Roy Orbison on RUclips it has to do with breathing technique: try it yourself! Sinatra quoted in Nancy Sinatra bio "Daddy and Me" described learning his breathing technique from the brass players in Jimmy Dorsey Orchestra: "sneak quick inhale breaths" at EVERY opportunity to maintain bursting full lungs of air whenever not exhaling to play - or in a vocalists case, to sing - the notes. You may check out my Orbison covers on RUclips channel, Mark Redman. Thank you. God bless you. Wished for a Safe and Happy 2021.
I was lucky to see him in the U.K. It was a choice of Roy or the Beatles - for me no question. There was a well known pop group as a warm up. Lots of screaming from the audience, Roy came on and you could have heard a pin drop. Superb!
This whole mix of music makes me cry!!!!! And I’m a real man! Never again will we know music such as this! These millinials ** will never ever ever know a damn thing about life’s emotions and real true blue music!! I’m playing my drums along as we speak!!! Wow, The Man Had some voice, Listen to that ending , and he took it up a note higher at the end. What power. God gave Roy a great instrument. And he used it well. ..he vives me good bumps every time i hear one of his songs.
I can sing every note of this song. Perfectly. Except for the last note. The one he hits on “me”. And that’s what separates me, a decent singer, from Roy, who I have come to believe has the greatest voice that has ever been recorded.
Music that spoke to the heart, taught a generation of us how to survive lost loves, broken hearts, he helped us heal, helped us mourn, gave us hope. Thanks Roy!

What a terrible tragedy it was to the world of music to lose Roy at such a young age. His remarkable talent that he shared with the world of music for so many years still lives on thanks to RUclips. Roy is a true Icon and Legend in the history of "Rock & Roll", and his great talent and beautiful voice will live on for many years to come.
roy orbisonwas my favorite singer . he had such feeling for his songs and such a beautiful voice. When my wife passed away i played his song remember the good and it was like it was made for me thank you roy
December 17 2019.....wowww...I literally got chills when the audience kept clapping and cheered when he returned for the final notes....Roy was and still is one of the very best ever in the music business
Axl Rose (William Bruce Bailey Rose Jr.) has a vocal range of 6 octaves. People do not misunderstand the term ''vocal range''. Its not about screaming the ''hardest'' and having the most breath in your longs. While the broadest definition of "vocal range" is simply the span from the lowest to the highest note a particular voice can produce, this broad definition is often not what is meant when "vocal range" is discussed in the context of singing. Vocal pedagogists tend to define the vocal range as the total span of "musically useful" pitches that a singer can produce.
@TheOneAndOnly KC. You Know I'm Right, So F-ck Off. Elvis was a natural performer, while Roy was a natural songwriter. He was never totally comfortable performing, but he still could entrance an audience with his voice.
You watch him, and he does what he does, and it looks like he is not even trying, it is so natural, and smooth, he is amazing, he makes it look so easy.
The voice of the 20th century! Never equalled, totally unique and timeless. Thank you, Roy, for all the pleasure you gave to millions of your adoring fans and continue to give to millions more!
What a heartbreakingly beautiful voice ... Imagine if Roy had been a handsome man .... Elvis (the indisputable King) called him the Voice and had deep respect for Roy Orbison.

Love Roy, the first time I heard him when I was a teen. I am now 72 yrs. young, and still the best singer I have every heard. Still sing with him on my CD's , going down the road in my car just like I was a teen again. Roy Orbison is in a league of his own, he was Elvis's favorite and mine too!!
I saw him at the Granada theatre in Harrow NW London in 1964. Standing still and not saying a word he sang with power and emotion and hit all the high notes in Running Scared. I remember the hairs on the back of my neck rising in response. I saw him again in concert at the London Palladium and Blazers in Windsor and again at the Adelphi Theatre in Hammersmith in 2018 (hologram). I still play his records today and have just downloaded “Wild hearts run out of time” from iTunes. At an Elvis Presley concert in Las Vegas Roy was in the audience and Elvis introduced him as “one of the greatest singers of all time”.
The little wry smile midway through the video was pure magic. He knew the audience was HIS and he could have sung the phone book and they would be ecstatic
Even at an older age, Roy had a beautiful voice!! His songs and sounds were great always!! People do not know he FIRST had to PAY out his pocket for his songs to be heard! Hard working guy, a great champion NEVER to be forgotten! Elvis Presley admired him too! Love this video! Orbison deserves all the credit like the others who reached fame!! Roy had amazing talent!!
He was the greatest and he will be remembered !!! Such a humbled man, so lovely.

Elvis said that Roy had the best voice he ever heard
First record I heard on Radio Luxembourg Am 208 ...I was hooked and still am after 60 yrs.
Elvis called him "the greatest singer in the world."
YES, he was!
That's right! The "king" was once asked: "If you had one wish, what would it be? To which Elvis promptly replied: "To be able to sing like Roy."
Saw him live in the 70’s at Caerphilly, he just stood there and sang one song after another, a brilliant night.
Christ Almighty!! That last note on the second call when he went above his normal finishing note.....Outstanding!!
You got it my friend, he went to the moon and back on that note !!!
