You're in good company there. One of the things that made Star Trek stand out from other Sci-Fi of the time was the hopeful tone. Most other Sci-Fi shows of the time were dystopian and/or post-apocalyptic.
I hope this moment happens in my lifetime…I have no doubts at all that an intelligent space faring race is out there eager to meet us once we’ve hit a technological milestone worthy of first contact.
Always thought this was a pretty big plot hole. When they interview Cochran after the first warp flight and ask where are the two other astronauts he took with him. He's probably like ummm yeah yeah we can't talk about them......
I sooo much love this movie... coming back here and than to enjoy this minutes here.. the daceds pass and i hope we once will experience it like in this scene.. to finally unite as humanity...

If that rocket hadnt worked, the Enterprise could have just fired up her engines for the same effect. Though not sure how the Vulcans didn;t spot the huge Enterprise cruising around all this time
It wasn't the ship they detected it was the warp drive, and they could probably hide from their old style vulcan sensors or use the planet or moon to hide behind
2:43 What else could the inventor of warp drive and the man whose vision of dollar signs, money and naked women on a tropical island, who's discovery led to the birth of the United Federation of Planets say when he sees the Enterprise? Lol!
that's a good question. It seems going up they went with a multistage rocket, so going down I would have expected something like a capsule such as with the apollo missions, but we didn't get a scene like that in this movie.
I like the theory that it was the Enterprise E going back in time and telling him what the future could be that prevented him from attacking the Vulcans when they arrived. That this was the divergence point.
Damn good scene from “Star Trek First Contact” and looking back it had a better storytelling than the remakes by JJ Abrams. Who would have thought that a Titan missile could be converted into the greatest thing man has ever made.
Initially they probably weren't looking there. My guess is a warp jump probably lit up like a Christmas tree on their sensors, especially from an unexpected source. Later they hid behind the moon. Plus it's plausible that advanced shield tech probably made it easy to avoid their more primitive sensors.
When will we achieve a society that has no racial bias and war and poverty are a distant memory. A time of discovery to uplift and expand the very essence of what humanity is capable of achieving when we work together.
It's like the aliens know we have nukes. Same theory. A weapon signature that they can detect, just as a propulsion system with a signature. Meaning, they need to investigate and determine friend or foe.
You can't build a modern house out in the wilderness without at least a nation's worth of infrastructure furnishing the parts you need. Building a rocket ship in your back-yard is a common trope in sci-fi and although it has its cute moments, it's also sort lazy writing.
Oh yes you can with a "garage" and the right tools. I understand where you are coming from. A caveman would have said the same thing to the Wright brothers.
@@Avicenna_76 Where did the tools come from? Who is manufacturing the fuel? Who has mined all the precious metals and wire and super-expensive metals and jet nozzles? How are they supplied, furnished, given good and housing and benefits that make this endeavor worthwhile to them, when they should be out hunting food to feed their family and themselves?
@@lynnpoint6395 , the caveman would ask the same thing about where do you get that shiny metals, how do you get gasoline, even the fabric you wear... The thing is you don't have to overthink about plot armor of star trek... Off the top of my head, TNG featured torture, the genocide of an entire species, rape (several times), parasitic invasion, assassinations and murder.
@sqwalnoc Anyone who has an issue with Star Trek being more inclusive clearly was never a fan anyway

Me to when er learn we are not alone
Same, I just hope our first contact will be just as wonderful as this was. You know minus the Borg sphere trying to disrupt the timeline.🤣
O wow, I forgot how great it was, gonna have to watch it all over again!
This is my favorite next gen movie! Time travel and the borg... It's everything Star Trek is great at, in my humble opinion.
Star Trek, where first contact with aliens is welcoming.
Stupid comment! The Klingons weren't exactly pouring over the border by the millions expecting to be handed everything for free!

What's a daced...?
This scene always brings a tear to my eye
Watched on Christmas day.
It makes white liquid ooze from my private area.
Everyone on the ground just got cooked. A rocket that big, you don't get within miles of the launch site.
Loved this movie though.
they'd of been killed by the sound before the heat.. nasa dumps a lakes worth of water at the exhusted to kill the noise somewhat.
Super advanced cold quiet rocket motors
yes, you have to wonder what the military are thinking putting them in bases with thousands of people.

Isn't a large rocket running about 200db, enough to turn someone to soup?
This is my 2nd favorite scenes out.of the star trek movies. First, Kirk vs Khan, second, the first warp engine featuring Steppenwolf.
They added the little running lights to the phoenix cockpit that you see under every Enterprise bridge viewscreen.
Yea just love ❤️ it, the things that they do, the hard work that they put into it! Talented actors and writers go so well together.

Better question is how they landed the rocket after the test.

@@gpcexplorer Would have to be... Then I wonder how many lakes near Bozeman Montana that are large enough to aim for while falling out of space.
Those Vulcans were starstruck, holy crap its James Cromwell!!
Considering they used an old ICBM to launch the Phoenix, I'd like to know how they got back through re-entry. 🙂
Plot armor
Absolutely awesome bathrobes. -C
Gotta love the upside down sunglasses display stand behind them.

Zephraim Cochrane: SWEET JESUS ! 😊
We could all get that dream if we weren't so concerned about dominating others and having World control and we just work together in peace!
so, how did the Phoenix land? no heat shields, what engines did they use?
that's a good question. It seems going up they went with a multistage rocket, so going down I would have expected something like a capsule such as with the apollo missions, but we didn't get a scene like that in this movie.

Would this be the ship that takes TaPol's team home, or 2 of the 3?
Such a great movie.
Amazing how the Phoenix looks like spaceX
At least it doesn't look like Blue Origin, lol.
In the mirror universe the Vulcans will get a surprise.

Who would have thought that a Titan missile could be converted into the greatest thing man has ever made.
Must have been puzzling for the Vulcans. Finding warp capable people living in ramshackle tin buildings and dressed in rags.
That was one BIG flaw in this movie...at warp speed, they would not even see Earth after that time at warp. I know, I know, it's a movie!!!
That's the biggest flaw? What about the fact that the aliens speak English. 😂
Ok, maybe second was when khan put the earwig in the guys ear. Lol
All right, what did you do to the audio? Ryker sounds like he’s been sucking on helium and so does Gordi what’s going on?
They learned English surprisingly fast.
And they noticed his sip but not the enterprise
Scotty ya canney start a warp core enge from cold
They cut the best part “I got the ol cruise controller set to 55”
I miss voyager..
Who was driving

so cheesy. It makes blue cheese smell good…
That’ll do pig… That’ll do!
*Discovered, and it was invented rather than discovered, there is a difference.
No translators yet, how did they understand Vulcan?

This scene needs a redux, but with a fist-bump.
When will we achieve a society that has no racial bias and war and poverty are a distant memory. A time of discovery to uplift and expand the very essence of what humanity is capable of achieving when we work together.
If only…
Wait the Vulcans can detect warp signatures, but not teleporter signatures.
If they had teleporters they probably would have used them rather than land, so they probably can't detect them either.
@matthewmclean9734 yeah but that would of been like they were angels, not beings of flesh and blood on a similar propulsion system
Teleporters came later.

her acting is soo robotic that even doing a count down sounds like a AI
How much emotion do you expect from a countdown? It's one place where you absolutely need cold crisp diction in a calm level voice.
I have often wonders how they landed the ship back on Earth.

This is what Elon Musk wants, and I understand why!
