For state prisoners, the numbers are even higher. A government survey found that 70% were rearrested within five years and nearly half returned to prison for a new conviction or a parole or probation violation. repeat 🔁 offenders peer pressure .the people I know end up going to prison. The judge should have each defense atty put a dollar into a kitty each time “accepting responsibility” is used during hearings.😀 The amount in the kitty could be donated to a charity. There is hardly any variety in the spiels for their clients.

This judge is awesome. What I hate about the system is they plead down on the first set of charges and then they get probation, and they plead down again. It is a system problem so they get a 50% charge discount. This makes pressing charges on people very hard because they know the punishment rarely fits the crime for repeat offenders.

This mother makes very poor decisions when it's comes to her children. He has a drug addiction problem. He is not safe to be living in the home around her family. He does not need to be free, especially going into stores stealing ,and the people who pay for what they want have to pay more because of these damn Kleptomanias. Thank you, Judge Boyd, for being professional in your duties.

All of these druggies are real short-sighted. Doesn’t want jail time(although he will be locked up for felony drug court) and just sees living forever in the warm and loving bosom of his family. First time there is any discord, job loss, etc, it’s back to old habits.

The guy is trying to look contrite while his lawyer is accusing the judge of only looking at his criminal history is just b.s. Judge Boyd is fair and for that defense attorney to try and make the criminal look like the victim of a system is annoying. His client is responsible for his behavior so let's not get it twisted.

I think Judge Boyd did the right thing here. When has there ever been a defendant in her court that had performed perfectly on probation for 3 years?! I sure don’t recall that. Is dude annoying? Absolutely. But has he turned his life around? Sure looks like it.
I find the fact that the state is asking for 10 years in prison, at this point, arbitrary and ridiculous-and a waste of taxpayers’ money. (Although, my understanding of Texas corrections is that it is administered by for-profit corporations). IMO, it would be so much better if the state would put its time, focus and resources towards prosecuting domestic violence and child sexual abuse, rather than nonviolent drug offenses.
