The only part I found confusing is the terms "Transgender female" and "Transgender male" for the longest time I didn't know if it was referring to biological pre-transition sex or the gender they now identify as. cis femlae btw
I used to get it mixed up when I was way younger and just learning about transgender people even existing. The way I found to make it easy to remember is this: If transgender male referred to a male-to-female person then by calling them a transgender man you are directly misgendering them in the title. It's still calling them a man, you've just acknowledged they chose to transition. But plenty of trans people choose to identify as a trans man or trans woman and it's highly unlikely a group of people would use words to identify themselves that directly deny their identity. Another language-based way to see it is because the way English works, the words 'transgender woman' essentially breaks down into 'a woman who transitioned gender'. Because 'transgender' comes first it states that the subject of the title (the subject being 'man' or 'woman') would have transitioned genders ('trans' being derived from Latin which essentially means 'across' or 'beyond'. Another English word 'transition' is also derived from 'trans' and is commonly used in sentences like "He transitioned from bus route to bus route until he made it to his destination" or "Her expression transitioned from delight to pure shock." When you put 'gender' behind 'trans' it means they 'went across gender' or in common terms 'transitioned gender'.) In that sense even on a language level it wouldn't make sense. If the subject hasn't transitioned genders there would be no reason to call them transgender and the subject is in present tense (as implied by the lack of a past tense signifier) so it would be talking about their current gender. Which seeing as they've transitioned would be the opposite of their birth. Hence MTF being transgender woman and vice versa (And no I'm not trans med I'm not talking about surgical transition. This section is purely on the language rules surrounding the label itself. Its actually why 'transexual' is considered outdated bc the language directly implies they have to have changed their sex (sex being genitals/chest/biology and gender being the thing u identify as and present as)) TLDR - Easiest way to remember is that someone who identifies as a woman probably wouldn't go around calling themselves a 'man'. Plus linguistics.
it's really nice to see a trans person answer these kinds of questions so chill bc when you're cis these questions can be scary to ask bc you really don't want to offend or hurt anyone. really informative!
To be honest, I wish people would ask these questions rather than others. Talking about the effects of hormones is fun (for me at least) and makes you feel like a scientist. I had a good chat with some of my cis female friends and about periods and we both benefitted from the conversation. It's much preferable to some of the intrusive questions we DO get asked! Believe me, people ask some messed up questions. The worst questions are about sexuality, childhood and transphobia in the news.
The only possible way I can think of being happy from it is if you get rid of it. you are technically happy because it’s gone but that unhappiness was caused by you having it and then not as well. I’m sorry I don’t know what my point was anymore.
@@HiBuddyyyyyy another thing is if you are in denial of being trans because you haven’t felt dysphoria in a while you might have some relief when you feel it, obviously the cons out way the pros there 1000 to 1 but still
As a cis person it is so nice watching your videos and understanding more about being trans. Even though I am quite educated about it it’s always nice to get an insight of how it is. I myself have a lot of trans people in my life and watching your videos help me understand them and their struggles better. Thank you so much for making these videos!
@yandrsupreme Kind of backwards what you said up there. Liking "boy" things isn't the same as feeling like a boy. Also most of society hates/fears trans people, hates/fears them way more than femme gays or butch lesbians. There are even "feminists" who don't recognise their existence. So it's not like they are choosing the "easy" way towards societal intergration. So what you are saying doesn't really make sense.
@yandrsupreme I don't disagree that gender stereotypes are a thing and that they are hard to shake off. But no one goes under Kim Kardashian's instagram saying she's struggling under the burden of society and that she should be abolishing gender. So I think it's unfair that a lot of trans people have to deal with this critisism.
@yandrsupreme As a trans man, with trans friends, I don't feel like this is true. Yes gender stereotypes are smothering and unhelpful, but dysphoria is real and not necessarily related to how you want to fit in with society. Since starting my transition I have actually felt more comfortable with embracing what would traditionally be called my feminine side, because when I was being hypermasculine it was performative - so that people wouldn't misgender me... if that makes sense? It wasn't that I liked masculine things so I thought 'gosh I should be a man so I may be allowed to like masculine things' it was more like 'gosh I am a man, but I present as a female to people around me, so I better double down on masculine things so people stop thinking I am a woman'. I have never felt like my love of certain traditionally masculine activities etc. has defined my gender, in the same way my love of traditionally feminine things is still not defining my gender. Sorry this answer is a bit circuitous.
@Herbert Munson I've not heard of a trans woman disrespecting cis women. I don't think that's a common thing. Also, dysphoria occurs "naturally" and I don't see how them being their truest selves equates to disrespecting mother nature. Try to have a little more empathy for this minority group that already suffers enough.
Ay, what's wrong with being a girl. I wish I was a girl. Once you become a dude, you'd never receive a message again. your likes drops down to 5 per week.
To the question asking why all trans people are so beautiful- It’s because the joy in your eyes and face of finally feeling comfortable in your body is so apparent we see everything you didn’t like about your body before that you now have / don’t have.
I wanted to take a moment to thank you for how informative your videos are. I'm a teacher and there are a few trans students in school. A lot of the other teachers have many questions/misunderstandings and I use your videos to help educate a little where I can.
I wish the teachers here would be like you. Almost in japan a lot of people don't even know that it really exist and not onely in animes.(i am in japan for 3 months to learn the linguage.)(trans pre-t)
FYI, since you declared your voice isn't sexy. I think its sexy. Also, dude... You have an English accent. Ask any person from the US- we all think your voice is sexy. lol
I’m getting a David Tennant vibe off of you. I don’t think it’s just the hair though; you have his high energy mannerisms too. I think David Tennant is lovely though, so definitely a compliment. :)
My brother (bestest friend in the entire universe, known and unknown) told me something I found fascinating. When he went on T, he stopped feeling the need to cry. We all always think “boys should just cry rather than causing property or bodily damage”, but really, it’s just hard for them to do so. They still get upset, it just manifests differently.
I also heard that men generally have larger tear ducts than women so tears don't overflow as much. Idk i was randomly looking at the science of crying, very interesting and surprisingly comforting.
im a trans girl still stuck with T and sometimes i feel like im supposed to cry, but tears just won't come. T also makes your skin less sensitive, so sometimes someone will tickle me and ill laugh even though i don't feel it that much, because i know somehow that im supposed to be more sensitive.
The chemicals involved in sending signals to the tear ducts are heightened by the female hormones. Physical men cey less and they take more emotional stress to cause crying. So yes women cry more but men feel the same emotions at the sane level so if a significant other of yours brings up your lack of tears now you have S C I E N C E.
the important part is i hope you don't wax your crotch that hair is important health wise haha it also shocks me and makes me happy i have hair on my toe knuckles, as a trans dude, all my body hair is pretty welcome, even the sweat absorbers
I wouldn't say that I can see "auras" per se, but I am very sensitive to the energy people can put out, and let me tell you that the happiness that radiates off the trans people I've met who are post-transition, is the absolute brightest and most contagious happy energy that I've ever witnessed
I used to identify as a trans guy until one of my teachers absolutely humiliated me in school in front of my entire class when I was at school. Since then, I have just sort of accepted that this is my body, even if it doesn't feel like it sometimes, but I still see myself in my head as a dude. It makes me happy hearing about other people's stories, especially when it works out really well for them, but I just couldn't cope with being humiliated like that again 😔
That is absolutely awful. That teacher should be fired. If you ever choose to transition, know that, while there will always be transphobes, there will also always be people that support you. And choosing to stay in the closet does not make you weak. If you are an adult, gender therapy is a great resource. Or, if your under safe you can still go, bug your parents would have to know.
i can really empathize with that, cause its so scary to put yourself out there and be met with rejection. you didn’t deserve to be treated that way, no one does. just know that you are not alone and you deserve to be able to present in whatever way makes you happiest. i would recommend looking into support groups for trans/questioning people in your area. i wish you all the best. 💖
I'm sorry your teacher did that. But if you feel as though you're a guy, then you are regardless of what you look like on the outside, or what anyone says
I would like more weird trans facts/questions because you don't often get to know these things unless you ask and having someone willing to answer and giving a space to ask them is very helpful!
Just randomly found this on my home feed. It's really good to see a trans man in the spotlight. I am lbgt+ and find a lot of media attention is on ci gay men or trans women. You are the first trans man I have "met". Think you are wonderful!!
hello trans girls and trans guys watching this video :) trans girls: i just wanted to tell you that that i am a cis girl COVERED in body hair, and it’s totally normal. down there, on my buttcheeks, armpits, arms, legs (a LOT all over those areas), chest and stomach (not that visible but still) and even a little bit on my face and fingers. don’t feel bad about it, it also took me a long time to get used to it and i was very insecure at first. but it’s just our bodies, after all. i also have very masculine hands and i’m taller than average, so don’t feel bad about that either. trans guys: ALL my guy friends, who are all cis, have less body hair than me. a lot of them barely have any visible hair and they’ve already hit puberty. so basically: stereotypes are kind of bullshit and you shouldn’t feel bad about that
So I went to Iceland pretty recently, and was told a couple of fun facts from a tour guide - one of which was that the Icelandic word 'rassgat' is often used to refer to things that are cute, like young children or animals (it has been compared to the japanese word 'kawaii'?). It also just so happens that the actual meaning of this word is asshole! So by using buttholes, you could just be calling us all adorable :)
I grew up very conservative and not knowing much about lgbt+. I've been learning a lot the past year or two, but transgender has still been a bit... confusing? That's not the right word, but it is one of the areas that I'm trying to learn more about. I don't have specific questions about it, just feel like I should gain a better understanding of it. Glad your channel popped up, will def be watching more of your vids
I'm 15 and trans, Is it just me or is the reason why people think trans people are so good looking, Is because are true self is showing, and were more confident, because we love are self now.
when i see people that lose weight its the same, the first thing i notice is their face, the confidence, how much happier they are in their own skin. when you look at his pre-trans pics there is so much discomfort on his face, its like he is lost and can't find himself.
Agreed: It's first and foremost about the charisma, vibes and aura of someone who transitions, transitioned or wants to do so, that changes their appearance through character and happiness and strongly influences their looks, too!
nah mate I think its the hormones. Trans women seem to always have such glowing skin but....they're on estrogen. doctors put ladies on birth control to clear up their skin so...trans women are basically getting hyper doses. idk about trans men but....well I would guess getting major doses of T, to whatever point you like, probably also makes you more attractive.....we in general like those who are very sexually dimorphic....very female looking or very male looking.
@@Renxo761 please before you spew crud go educate yourself. Let me explain how you are misinformed. My son is transgender. Before he was his true self he looked more masculine, was taller than most men, and his voice was a deeper octave than most females but was definitely a female in outward appearance. When he began the process of transitioning his Dr did lots of tests. The easiest one to explain was his natural no t testosterone levels. They were high and not just non typical high for a female but high for a teenage boy, and he was a teenager at the time. According to his Dr the results from those tests that showed he had very other gender attributes normally is something they see a lot in people who are transgender. So let's go back to your line of thinking, if God makes no mistakes and someone who is born outwardly the gender they know they shouldn't be and tests ran by drs show there is biological reasoning for that, doesn't that mean God made them that way? And if he made them that way and he is infallible, are you not yourself questioning God and going against him by spewing uneducated crud? Let's for a minute stand back and look at why God would make them that way. Could it be to show uneducated bible thumpers tolerance and that they have strayed off the path to righteousness by judging others in a way that NO ONE but God should judge. To truly believe in God is to not question him and knowing that science and medicine shows they are made that way, and since God made everything he obviously created everything we look at scientifically and medically, why would you claim to know what God wants when you yourself are obviously questioning his knowledge in such things. Please stop judging others, leave that to God, he knows what he is doing and all his children are made the way he intended even if his intention is for them to have journey to be their true selves.
Alejandra Rojas nope. Dysphoria is the discomfort trans people feel. Can be in relation to their body, their voice, the way society treats and views them, what theyre called, etc. Dysmorphia is not at all the same thing
My old blind cat loves your voice! 😄Shes very nervous and calms down immediately when I play one of your videos. Any breaks or commercials will cause her to get up and wander around again
Thank you for enlightening me on what it’s like to be Trans. Also thank you for your openness to answering those very person questions. I’m sure it’s not pleasant for you to give such person information, but it does help give us outsiders a better understanding.
"The thing that makes me happy is that I rarely experience dysphoria at all." That totally grabbed me & almost made me cry. I really felt that for you, Jamie ☺👍❤👏 You're awesome.
Haha, the thing about pee was funny. When I started estrogen, I was constantly shocked by the change in smell. It was radically different. But, like you said, after a while you stop noticing it.
Ok a lot of the issue with cis people not understanding is that they often try to relate as imagining themselves wanting to be the other gender, rather than constantly being mistaken as the other gender that they were convinced or had to pretend they were.
Alex the Trans Swimmer I think they also have are hard time thinking of it as permanent. So it sounds like a cool experience to be the opposite sex, when they don't realize that no, you're stuck that way and it really sucks.
Except for those of us who don't feel like we'd be bothered either way. I mean bearing babies was pretty magical, but that's over now, and post-40 men get so much a better deal, I'd take it.
Not sure why this was in my feed, not i'm bothered really. This video was vey informative, and nice. And i just wanted to say that you look very handsome and amazing. The Trans Glow is very apparent on you. ^~^

Oh my gosh yes it does. I'm trans ftm and even though I'm out to my parents they refuse to call me a boy. I hate seeing or hearing or reading any female words. It's really triggering.
Weirdly, the "You were so beautiful" thing doesn't bother me much, because I guess I did look good when I still presented as feminine. It ultimately wasn't who I truly was, but that doesn't mean I couldn't have been perceived as attractive. Heck, if I met a woman now who looked the way I looked back then, I'd be super down to date her. What bothers me greatly is when people say shit like "It's a shame" or "What a waste" or any variations of that though. I can't even put into words what goes through my mind when I get a comment of that kind, but just... No. Stop.
@@nixx4736 THIS. I'm out to everyone and have been on T for three years, but literally my mom and my brother, the only really close family members I have, are the only ones still calling me by my old name, and there's a handful of other people (the two of them, as well as some co-workers) referring to me as 'she', sometimes WHILE I'M IN THE SAME ROOM, and it's just soul crushing. I've protested in the beginning, but just gotten shit for it and be told not to make a fuss, so I'm silent for now. I just hope they'll stop once my name and sex are changed on my official documents, or else I'll have to cut them out of my life, which I really really don't want to do.
Dysphoria for me: Sometimes am okay with my body and feeling completely fine. Sometimes I feel like I'm trapped inside a small container that I don't want to be in and makes me feel claustrophobic and like I cant think straight and am suffering.
I sometimes feel awkward and guilty around trans people because I am scared of offending them if I say something stupid by accident. But I think trans people are infinitely braver than I’ll ever be and I really respect that level of self acceptance and being so true to yourself ❤️ thanks for teaching me about trans people ❤️❤️❤️
Great video - great information! I'm in my 30's, so most of my understanding of trans people came from the point of view of what is now known as trans-medicalism. I had to take the time to learn everything I could, since I came to the shocking realization that my views were VERY outdated and VERY incorrect. I'm glad I took the time to learn, so I can educate my two babies as well. There's no excuse for remaining ignorant on such an important issue.
I have a lot of shoulder dysphoria, I once looked in the mirror when I was about 11, so about 3 years ago when I didn’t know I was trans, and said to my mum “my shoulders look quite wide don’t they”, and she said “no they don’t”, and she still denies my transness (I mean there is more, but this is definitely a trans kid story, because I was thinking, I look like a boy now), also, every time I see a picture of myself I hate it because I look so female.
Looking at your shoulders and thinking they are wide is not necessarily ‘shoulder dysphoria’ ?? May be you just have wide shoulders, or maybe you just see you shoulders as wide.
Swimming is great for building shoulders and chest. It doesn't put as much strain on XX bones as weightlifting, but if you're still in your teenage growth years it can really make a difference to the shape of your shoulders and chest - the actual bone structure, not just the muscles overlaid on it.
Hi Jamie, how do you feel about being thrown together with the other LGB etc as a social group when physical dysphoria is a very different issue from sexuality? As a gay cis male, I’ve noticed a lot of casual transphobia within the gay community and I wonder if there’s any resentment toward that from the trans community?
@@spazmatismsf385 Unfortunately the media that directs material to the LGBT+ community believe we are all horny, gay cis-men. HELLO? Some of us are girls! Some of us are asexual or simply just not horny 24/7. Some of us don't worship masculinity. Some of us hate going to expensive clubs with shallow people, and - believe it or not - but some of us don't drink alcohol. I seek out people instead. Actual humans and talk to them, learn from their experiences. Turns out we're just as a diverse group as the straight community - who would've known?
@@SamirCCat The way media represents LGBT+ characters is also what a fair amount of homophobia, transphobia etc comes from. Also, most trans people represented in the media are trans women; trans men, non-binary and gender fluid people do also exist you know? I know there aren't as many trans actors compared to cis actors, but it can't be that hard to cast someone more suitable.

Your explanation about 'not knowing' was SO empathic and just amazing and incredibly true in a lot of cases. Especially when you elaborated on the causes of transphobia. Fear and ignorance do not excuse negative behavior, but treating those who might be confused or aggitated over new subject with a little sympathy for their ignorance can go a long way in many cases
This is probably too much information but I had some minimal hair in my buttcrack pre-t which isn’t necessarily uncommon for females and now that I’m on testosterone my buttcrack is hairy as fuck and I’m only about 4 months in. It’s ridiculous. I don’t mind it because it makes me feel more masculine but holy shit it is weird to get used to.
Miscellaneous Nick that is absolutely DISGUSTING. Why would you want to be a man anyway? Ew... the whole trans thing disgusts me in general, why can’t you just accept the way you were born?

Yes to the ignorance part. I didn't understand why someone would want to go through so much trouble to change their body, and why not just live with what you got, but your explanation made a lot of sense "I don't feel right in my body".

To the person who asked: "Does dysphoria make you happy?"
DO YOU EVEN KNOW WHAT "DYSPHORIA" MEANS?!
The only possible way I can think of being happy from it is if you get rid of it. you are technically happy because it’s gone but that unhappiness was caused by you having it and then not as well. I’m sorry I don’t know what my point was anymore.
Wait, wait! I think I have it;
the happiness from it being gone was only caused by it being there in the first place.

As a cis person it is so nice watching your videos and understanding more about being trans. Even though I am quite educated about it it’s always nice to get an insight of how it is. I myself have a lot of trans people in my life and watching your videos help me understand them and their struggles better. Thank you so much for making these videos!
I learned so much having a very patient trans friend that gave me the room to say a lot of stupid shit

Oh lord, this makes so much sense given my huge raging DT obsession. I'm mad for both of them
My brother (bestest friend in the entire universe, known and unknown) told me something I found fascinating.
A year late but I also hear it's mutch easier to cry after going on estrogen. Easily on E as I hear people cry over what they say is nothing on it
im a trans girl still stuck with T and sometimes i feel like im supposed to cry, but tears just won't come.
Guy here, I get kinda mad when I'm sad and I don't like that about myself.

Everyone has hairy toes no need to wax

the important part is i hope you don't wax your crotch that hair is important health wise haha it also shocks me and makes me happy i have hair on my toe knuckles, as a trans dude, all my body hair is pretty welcome, even the sweat absorbers
Is it ok to call you Mr Abbott?
I've sub'd to your chan btw.
i can really empathize with that, cause its so scary to put yourself out there and be met with rejection. you didn’t deserve to be treated that way, no one does. just know that you are not alone and you deserve to be able to present in whatever way makes you happiest. i would recommend looking into support groups for trans/questioning people in your area. i wish you all the best. 💖

hello trans girls and trans guys watching this video :)
trans girls: i just wanted to tell you that that i am a cis girl COVERED in body hair, and it’s totally normal. down there, on my buttcheeks, armpits, arms, legs (a LOT all over those areas), chest and stomach (not that visible but still) and even a little bit on my face and fingers. don’t feel bad about it, it also took me a long time to get used to it and i was very insecure at first. but it’s just our bodies, after all. i also have very masculine hands and i’m taller than average, so don’t feel bad about that either.
trans guys: ALL my guy friends, who are all cis, have less body hair than me. a lot of them barely have any visible hair and they’ve already hit puberty.
so basically: stereotypes are kind of bullshit and you shouldn’t feel bad about that

So by using buttholes, you could just be calling us all adorable :)

when i see people that lose weight its the same, the first thing i notice is their face, the confidence, how much happier they are in their own skin. when you look at his pre-trans pics there is so much discomfort on his face, its like he is lost and can't find himself.
No I doubt it. Being your true self doesn't make u shine. But I hope you get to feel like your true self one day. You go.💟💟💟
@@Renxo761 please before you spew crud go educate yourself.

The way I imagined it is being trapped in the wrong body. Like, how in Freaky Friday they're trapped in two different bodies. Maybe that's weird.
This. This is the best explanation I feel like to get cis ppl to wake up and understand

Flameboy no I meant I looked and tried to pretend they were wide
@@dan5721 what? Are you trying to say you understand trans people and dysphoria because you identify as having wider shoulders?
Swimming is great for building shoulders and chest. It doesn't put as much strain on XX bones as weightlifting, but if you're still in your teenage growth years it can really make a difference to the shape of your shoulders and chest - the actual bone structure, not just the muscles overlaid on it.
Hi Jamie, how do you feel about being thrown together with the other LGB etc as a social group when physical dysphoria is a very different issue from sexuality? I have to give the obligatory Im cisgender line of course. But all that aside I am glad RUclips recommended your video to me. It was so enlightening and I’ve always been an ally to the trans community so it means a lot to be able to have more information to keep supporting you guys!
Me * *clicks video for very first time* *
* *Gets called butthole* *
With the newfound information of Jamie having all trans folk on speedial, I (a tran) shall be expecting a phonecall from my uncle Jamie very soon!
Same
He must have a huge contact list
same. He is like a male fairy that sees when trans people get dysphoric and comes down to comfort them
‘Does dysphoria make you happy?’
Dysphoria literally means the opposite of happiness! NO!
thanks for being so open, honest, and transparent about yourself and your experience! you're awesome! ☺️
haha, TRANSparent
this is the first video ive ever watched of yours and you calling me a butthole made me instantly subscribe 😂
My favorite one is "Congrats on starting T! How many more shots do you have until you're done?"
They meant so well but were so wrong
"oh about 5000"
RUclips recommended this video and gosh, you're so charming! I loved it!
Right? It came up and I was like, "wait, what, why?" but then I watched it and I agree he's charming and engaging.
I'm pre-T but already experience a 5oclock shadow / a lot of chest hair. My ass is gonna be swampy af when I start T 😂
Miscellaneous Nick It is
I’ve got my arse completely covered in hair now 😶
You’ll basically turn into chewbaka
@@user-10021 oof
This is probably too much information but I had some minimal hair in my buttcrack pre-t which isn’t necessarily uncommon for females and now that I’m on testosterone my buttcrack is hairy as fuck and I’m only about 4 months in. It’s ridiculous. I don’t mind it because it makes me feel more masculine but holy shit it is weird to get used to.
Miscellaneous Nick that is absolutely DISGUSTING. Why would you want to be a man anyway? Ew... the whole trans thing disgusts me in general, why can’t you just accept the way you were born?
Roman Andrew White gross... why would a woman ever wanna be a man
This is one of the couple of videos I've watched of yours. And I'm happy that you are open and not feeling awkward by those quite personal questions, that definitely we all wonder. I feel others would have answered "non of your business, or it's personal yadda yadda" but you are such a breath of fresh air. Keep on the good videos 👍
I love how unashamed you are with these, also love your ear bar thing
5:14 Your voice is actually sexy... I think it's one of the reasons why I love you and your videos 😘
you’re so sweet hon. thanks for answering questions!
Your hair looks extra fly in this video. Whatever you did, you did correctly!
Wow, you are one of the most understanding and considerate trans spokesperson I have ever come across. The way you explained transphobia was just spot on, and your analogy about the word that some people don't understand the meaning of was so clever.
Oh and I appreciated how blunt and honest you were with the weird questions about body hair n pee...
God bless you ma dude! :)
I've been binge watching a bunch of your videos lately and really only now am learning what exactly it means to be trans. Thank you for sharing this all. It's also amazing to me that we actually live in a time where you can get this kind of surgery. Happy for you!
i am transgendered and my favorited food is chickened noodled soup
No it's "I'ed amed transgendered anded my'ed favourited fooded ised chickened noodled souped"

You didn’t get it, did you? Also I’m super late. X)
"Not that I've ever been in my nose" 😂
You are such an inspiration stay amazing dude
Thank you for being brave enough to answer all these questions. Things like this builds bridges between hate and understanding
Yes to the ignorance part. I didn't understand why someone would want to go through so much trouble to change their body, and why not just live with what you got, but your explanation made a lot of sense "I don't feel right in my body". I guess if I cared enough, I would want to change my body too, and that makes perfect sense now. Thank you for your awesome videos.
