- A Hispanic family in rural Weber County became the target of a racist, hate-filled letter. .The family said they no longer feel welcome in their Hooper neighborhood.
“It is too bad your kind has moved into our neighborhood and brought into the dirty, sloppy people you are,” reads the first sentence in the letter.
The anonymous letter showed up in the mailbox of the Morales family this week, laced with racist comments and offensive stereotypes.

If you're moving to the Salt Lake Metropolitan you're gonna be good. I'm not saying is perfect but in my day to day I never have a racist encounter. It's when you go through rural Utah that you may run into someone racist. I'm Mexican- American by the way.

Usually we as human beings dislike that which we don't know or understand. I am almost 100% sure the person who wrote the letter would not have done it if they only got to know you and your family.
A completely different answer, for racist "white people", you could always tell them to get back on their ship and go back to Europe. Utah was part of Mexico and most likely your ancestors were here first.

WHAT?!?! This is the reason that I moved from Utah. All my children still live there, but I could no longer stand the attitudes of many of the people living in small communities there. It seemed, to me, as if there was something wrong with nearly anyone that was not in "their ward". God had damned you as a person if your lifestyle, skin color, family or friends were not what many of those folks thought was "acceptable".

Sorry but someone has to say it.. there are multiple typos in that letter and you can just tell by the hand writing, misuse of capital letters and punctuation, that it was written by someone who does not write often.. not by someone who has a job (as the letter implies)..

On the 2020 census, Hispanic or Latino origin was a separate question from race. A person could pick white, black, or any other race and then still answer that they were of Hispanic or Latino origin.

The ignorance and cowardice of that author say a lot. If you're going to be a hateful person, at least get your facts right. Kudos to this family for speaking up and making an effort to reach out respectfully to their neighbors.
The letter sounds justified (except for the ethnic language), and these guys even admit they're bad neighbors in the interview. Read the letter: these dudes play loud music, keep junk cars around their lot, keep chickens in the yard, set off dangerous fireworks, let the grass die, don't do yardwork. Nobody wants neighbors like that. Maybe they really should move somewhere else.
@@prometheusrex1 I don't take issue with giving a letter to neighbors. I take issue with the added hatred within the letter. The author could have written a respectful letter...and if that didn't work, try talking, if that didn't work, try filing a complaint, if that didn't work, take it to city counsel.
The fact that they admitted their role in upsetting the neighbors as well as offered an all-inclusive event shows that they are willing to make an effort. We all do better when we have rapport with our neighbors.

@@prometheusrex1 I agree that a letter is a useful way to convey a message to neighbors, but not that letter. I've been in that situation several times, and it can be worked out. I hope you understand that seeing it from a "reality" perspective doesn't mean it's doomed, nor does it mean I need to "wake up." Maybe I have more faith in others than you do. Maybe I'm comfortable communicating with others that live differently from myself. All I can say is hatred isn't productive... and being unwilling to try is a hard way to live. Sad to see, look at states like Idaho, New Hampshire, Colorado, and Connecticut all dont require business licenses or contractors licenses for construction workers, but in predominantly latino states like Arizona and California there are licensing requirements and many barriers to entry, pretty ironic on why that is especially since the latinos are singled out most of the time

This seems very strange to me, Hispanics never receive letters like that at UTAH, I know, it is impressive that people believe everything they are told. Everyone is manipulated by feelings.
