The reason why they throw the toilet paper in the trash is because in a lot of poor neighborhoods/towns in Mexico the plumbing is really bad and they don’t want to clog the plumbing. Sometimes it was taught to someone as a child and they just continue to teach it to their kids even though the plumbing has been modernized. In border cities in the U.S. they even have signs in the bathrooms telling people not to throw used toilet paper in the trash.

I’m a white woman who dated a Mexican man. I met his grandmother at one point and she said to his mother (in Spanish), “It’s so nice that he got a white woman. That should really help him in the world.” I understood enough Spanish to know what she roughly said.
