Here In the USA there is still a fair amount of prejudice and misunderstanding about E bikes. As a E rider of 18 months, I’m all in! It’s the most fun I’ve ever had in my 25 years of riding MTB and videos like this inspire me to get out and explore long forgotten trails in my area. I now take the long way home and as long as my bike doesn’t let me down I come back energized and looking forward to the next adventure. Thanks for the great content ROB!
I feel you. In 2015 I went into my local shop to buy a top of the line Giant full suspension, they had the color and size I wanted. Same month this same store decided to floor a no name German brand Haibike ebikes. I was an easy sell after seeing the bosch logo on the motor I hade to ride it. One test drive and I was sold and ordered one on the spot. 6 years later and on my second battery and this bike is probably the favorite of my 35 years of mountain biking. I do zero more damage to trails then a normal bike and now enjoy uphill again. Lots of hate for ebikes but I think its mainly from people who don't understand what they really are. Now to save for an upgrade.

Looks like a fantastic bike, but I really hope this is indicative of a refresh of the full-fat kenevo to use the same 6 bar suspension that the KSL/enduro does sometime this year. Seems like a bit of a waste to have such a burley bike with such a small motor and battery
Thanks for the awesome into to this bike! I'd love to hear how the feel and handling compares to the previous Kenevo. I have a 2020 Kenevo that I leave in ECO almost always, so I'd probably love an SL powerplant instead though I'm already getting some pedal strikes when I wouldn't have expected to, so I guess this would be worse on that front. I just bent a crank, so I'm replacing them with 160mm cranks to see how that goes.
Hi Rob Great Vid 👍 Bike looks great But as a Levo Sl Comp owner Myself,It Just Does Not offer anything to me to justify The 9k Price. We Need to Start Seeing Motors with Gearboxes in and Belt Drives ,To Make Spending Big Money on a Bike Worth Changing up too Chains and Rear Mechs Need Getting Rid of as there a Real Pain to look after. So If you Can have a Word with your Friends Marco etc in Switzerland As they Now need To Step it up again.😊
Nice bike and interesting how they have relocated the shock in a similar way to Santa Cruz. Great video by the way! For me it's full power and big battery as I am a bigger older rider. Picking up a Turbo Levo Pro at the end of the month and very excited about that. I think these SL models are a good fit for lighter fitter riders. Long term I think tech advances will give us SL type weight with full power and long range batteries, but for now I'll stick with the big Levo.
Hey Rob Rides Emtb! Thanks for this well balanced review! Over on the infomercial mountain bike network they would never mention the crank arms or anything else negative for fear of angering their Specialized overlords! That riding you had to do to review the Kenevo SL looked very tedious and dreary! Thanks for suffering through it to bring us the lowdown on that fine bike! Ride ride ride!
Torridon is my fav mountain trail up here in Scotland & the views.........epic! Great vid Rob, I will stick with the full fat version as this is a bit under powered for what I need.
Wow Rob this is better than Specialised advert that no doubt had a few 100k CGI on it with the prime robot, no need for special effects here just fantastic angles and top quality content 👌
Excellent video Rob! Your are nailing the cinematics, and love those drone shots in that spectacular countryside, I'm jealous! Thanks for taking the time to review this bike. It's quite a dilemma, between the downhill beast with LESS climbing power, but more nimble and filckable, compared to the full powered Levo that can climb anything, but is quite heavy. I own both bikes, and I will say I am liking the challenge of the new Kenevo SL, it makes me think and work, and for me I like the fact I can't cheat as much when it comes to cardio training as I can with my Levo. Sure I can ride Eco and harder on the Levo if I want to, but I don't 😬, and even if I ride Eco on the Levo to workout harder, the bike becomes even heavier, and it's not as fun anymore. Lately I've been leaning towards my Kenevo, but my trails are not like yours, so it just depends and how, and where you ride.
Nice first impression, Rob. Not the bike for me but certainly has its place for smashing downhill. I would prefer something nimbler for the climbs and technical twisty stuff. Looks the dogs danglies though and I think you are correct, Spesh (and Orbea) seem to have nailed the integrated e-bike styling and design. I'm not jealous of your Scottish Highlands trip either, lucky you! :-)
Awesome video production Rob. I agree that Specialized have without doubt the best integration out there, I would pay for that integration, as for me it's a deal breaker, as it's got to "feel" right, look right and be easy/quick to use. The price is high, but coffins don't have pockets.....
Excellent review and the editing and presentation are top level! I have spent a lot of time riding the current Levo and Levo SL along with the 2019 Kenevo Expert and recently test rode the 2022 Levo Pro. I love the lightweight feel of the SL model bikes but have to admit I am hooked on the additional power of the bigger Brose motors. The all new 22 Levo with mullet set up and new geometry is more comfortable going downhill. So my question is if you can only have (1) which do you pick....22 Turbo Levo or 22 Kenevo SL?
It looks perfect for what it's designed for: less power but light, and looks better than its Specialized siblings (YMMV). I like it. But it seems that more power is is possible at similar weight. Looking forward to the Forestal Siryon, and in a few years this category will stabilize. So far I can't really financially justify any of these. For now I stay with my trusty Capra and train for stronger legs :D.
I hired one of these last week in Innerleithen, it had the range extender. I managed 34 miles & 7,400 feet elevation of Golfie & inners with 10% (circa 48Wh) battery left. Very impressed overall, except the brakes (basic SRAM's with too much lever travel).
Excellent video Rob .... it was you riding and making a video on a 2019 levo that made me choose Specialized and I’ve never looked back and absolutely love it !!!!.... what fox gloves are they your riding with in this video .... I’m constantly plagued by gorse thorns where I live and I don’t want to wear a knights gauntlet to combat them !!!!!
Glad to see you came somewhere decent to test the bike...oh and I can't believe you came to Scotland and didn't visit us in PAISLEY!!! you've missed out🤣
Agreed it needs more power. I’m so looking forward for a model SL with power of the normal levo one . Battery not needed to be that large if you could add the range extender. Then for short trips, you just use a lighter bike and fir longer trails, you’d add weight.
bike looks amazingly smooth, i would buy this if i was living in scotland :), but no, i want something else, i want to go for 150km rides in the alps. this new Kenovo SL is now the only bike in the specialized range that makes sense
Really like this channel, the test bike at 6:30 when you start talking pedal strikes/crank length and seat post angle which will affect alot , body weight position, climb position, and reach. The thing we are not looking at is the bike is way to big for you...S3 most likely would work S4 probally a bit long but Rob is tall but the S5 you are along for the ride. Constantly fighting to get your position/weight right..S5 wheelbase 1316 is mega and should be for the largest guys only. S3 has 165mm cranks and yes cranks could be shorter. lets not fault bike when we pick the wrong size..can go both ways and speaking from many bikes experience. Keep the Great reviews coming.
Im 6’3” 192cm the S5 isn’t too big for me. Yes it’s a big bike but it’s not totally out there in terms of sizing. I could ride the S4 - but the S3 would feel way too small.
Excellent vid Rob . I am definitely in your camp with regards a bit more additional power .....even if it was self tunable to suit an individual rider . As a perfectly contented Full Fat Levo owner.....if I was in the market for a lighter bike......it would have to be the Orbea Rise for me . Spesh have definitely missed a trick here
Thanks Rob, a well balanced, thoughtful review as always. Also enforces my decision to flick my Kenevo and Enduro to replace with the Kenevo SL! Pick mine up on Monday! :)
Nice bike, great review, especially acknowlegment of the 30NM engine. Its so low that the extra weight is not really worth the power you gain in assist, but I think a thorough comparison to the Forestal Siryon, Cyon, and Hydra will reveal a few areas needed for Specialized to pay attention to.
Great review Rob, the difference in SL to full is something that will smooth out more and more. But for now the customer must make te choice. The footage is really great, did you have a skydio 2 used as a drone?
Hi Rob, how do you feel the keno SL power consumption will hold for heavier riders given that the weaker motor is probably doing much more effort for 90Kgs riders?
Just seeing this now, but the vistas and production levels are incredible! Looks like they heard and responded to complaints about weak power with the 2024 model, but TBD if they sort out the oversize crank arm issue. I'm guessing you were on an S4; did you ever think it would have been better as a mullet?
Feels like they have changed the Kenevo. The orig was a big hitting downhill bike with a motor to get you back up; this bike as you say feels like it is pitched at the Enduro market - perhaps greater appeal. I'd like to see how you feel about it vs the Orbea Rise (and i'm a Levo owner). Guessing not quite as capable down, but giving you more overall for less money and perhaps a little lighter bike too. Maybe a video for the future Rob?
Wow your footage is awe inspiring, stumbled across your vid while looking for ebike for commuting, just wanna say the Cinematic of the big country was amazing. What drone was you using? Also can anyone access that trail? Where was it? And do you need to be a Jedi master of MTB? Or can a blue level expertise go up there to? Great vid👍🙌🙏🏽
Thanks Ritesh! OK, so the drone is a Skydio 2. It’s amazing. Yes all of this is totally accessible to the public, you just need to know where! The team at H&I Adventures are the masters at these kinds trails and local knowledge! All totally within most people’s levels as there are no big gaps or drops. In the next couple of weeks I have a video dropping with the entire trip with destinations and planning. Might be of interest to you 😊
Very well put together video Rob, great work on the content. I think the New SL bikes should have a software option in the app to boost up to 50nm. The bike looks slick and very appealing, but I think 35nm is just to low for me when you get to the bigger days out on the mountains. Who knows if we ask they may add the option to boost to 50nm if the demand is there? Exciting times for ebikes :)
Thanks Sean! A software power boost would be massively appreciated. I’m no so sure though, I suspect that it would have been the ideal time to introduce such a power increase with the launch of this bike.
New level filming and production Rob been with you from inception of your channel you have certainly learnt your trade...I looked at this but went for the All Mtn Se 2021 Haibike be interested to hear your thoughts and would love you do a review on it as not many reviews have anything bad to say ?...I have the Spesialized Comp 2020 as well but not sure I will be getting back on as this is Se is incredible ridiculous price but a totally different beast it seems to fit as an all rounder...
Rob, I’ll put a challenge to you. Can you partner with a shorter rider for a video and do a detailed review on riding mullet set ups? Yes, there are other channels with shorter reviewers, but to be honest, the way you review and discuss the details, are second to none and you have earned my trust to cut through the crap. The basis for my challenge is, the simple reality is for shorter riders like me, if you want to ride super aggressive, the risk of ‘butt-biz’ from a 29er in the rear, is far too great. I was doing my best to get acustom to a 29er, went off a 3meter drop that I have done at least a hundred times on my normal mullet set up, I buzzed my butt and it threw my weight forward, and a few broken fingers later, I decided never again! The issue is, most other reviews talk about 27.5 as playful but not fast, and somewhat antiquated. I tend to agree and love 29, but my height reality means a mullet is the way I can see the benefits of a 29. So, I just think there needs to be more detail, promotion and support for the fact that the mullet can help move us short blokes forward with the trends, and I’d love to see you approach this. (For the many comments I will get saying “I’m short and I ride a 29er”, this isn’t a dig against you. I just want to be clear that I am only referencing super hard core riding that requires weight shifts over the back of the bike that brings the risk of butt-buzz too high). All the best Rob.
Was just revisiting this video and thought I’d answer. I got a kenevo (normal) and a SL Levo, you can feel when the limit hits but it doesn’t drag like the full fat bikes. You can pedal the bike fine with no motor on as theirs hardly any drag.
Awesome video Rob, nothing to take away from you there, but I must have a bit of a rant. Bike manufacturers keep releasing these videos, trailers etc to temp us to buy their products, however, nobody can! A 2022 bike that someone cannot buy until mid to late 2023, is ludicrous, along with the prices at the moment. £6500 for a frameset!? Utterly ridiculous quite frankly. Don't get me wrong, I can afford one, but just wouldn't buy one on general principle. I along with many others I know are in the market to buy a new Eeb, however we are not bothering until manufacturers sort the stock out.
I love my SL but that longer RE cable has me worried. The RE cable connection gets looser over time and adding that much more length seems problematic.
Hey Rob, given a good second hand price of this bike right now (talking lower than 3800€)... would you still recommend the bike instead of going for the more recent bikes like Mondraker Dune R or Orbea Rise v2?
Hi Rob, you mentioned many pedal strikes compared to other e bikes, I wonder, was the flip chip set on high which gives the BB height a 356 mm of clearance? Anyways, the bike looks stunning but I shall stick with the full power bikes, like the Levo Gen 3 or the Pivot Shuttle! More power for climbing and less noisy during riding!
Another great feature Rob. Any idea/best guess if the Levo SL will get an update soon like the levo and kenevo. Thinking of getting one but don’t want to get an “old” version. Plus I think that tcu looks much better than the old one. Cheers.

Thanks Big T! I have the SE edition ready to test, that vid will be coming soon :-)
Great vid and the most views on the variety of KSL releases.
Would you buy one though?
How do you like this vs the rise?
How in gods name do you stop people taking pics or videos of you out on the trails and dropping you in trouble? 😮
This is what I thought.
he just rides too fast! they don't have time to take pictures
Eh ? ... "in trouble" for what ??
Nice looking bike, but I agree they should have a bit more power in it, like the Orbea Rise lightweight.
What a sweet looking bike! Any ide if the mastermind tcu will work on my Levo SL Rob?
Nice camera work, have you tried the one up bendy bars ?
One question Rob, how noticeable is it when you go over the 15mph limit on the flat? I know how a Levo feels, but how does the SL feel?
Was just revisiting this video and thought I’d answer. I got a kenevo (normal) and a SL Levo, you can feel when the limit hits but it doesn’t drag like the full fat bikes. You can pedal the bike fine with no motor on as theirs hardly any drag.
Hi Rob,How does the Orbea Rise compare to the to the Kenevo SL, great presentation & production as always 👍👌🌲🌲🌲🌲🚵🌲🌲🏞️😎
Knew it! Looks an interesting bike though.
Will they put the 1.2 motor in this for 2024 🤔🤔
Awesome video Rob, nothing to take away from you there, but I must have a bit of a rant.
I along with many others I know are in the market to buy a new Eeb, however we are not bothering until manufacturers sort the stock out.
would you buy it now in 2024? its like 5k where I live or would you but the kenevo sl 2 comp, which is like 5.5 k.??
Great bike..crazy price
ohh i want this with a full powered motor and a 700 battery :)
Big mountain riding. You need big mountain motor and battery. Get ready for more SLs hanging around on shop shelves. 😁
I love my SL but that longer RE cable has me worried. The RE cable connection gets looser over time and adding that much more length seems problematic.
I’ll buy one when they match the power of the obrea rise
Hey Rob, given a good second hand price of this bike right now (talking lower than 3800€)... would you still recommend the bike instead of going for the more recent bikes like Mondraker Dune R or Orbea Rise v2?
What's up with the seat angle?
Cheers.
