    Nothing wrong with the Shimano… I quite like it. Ive only ridden the Shimano and Brose on Levo and they are both more than adequate for me as a 90kg geared up rider… just gotta use the gears. All the people saying wrong mother or needs the DJI have they actually ridden the Shimano extensively? And I don’t even have the 801, just the old still so much fun EP8… Looking at the Merida eOneSixty 875 as my next bike, was a great ride and in 18-24 months they’ll be on spesh in Australia. Great review Rob… always love your videos. Propane great looking bike, in fact I love the looks of it.

    Ridding this bike for the last 2.5 months with a focus on Enduro ride as opposed to trail ridding. This bike is a versatile weapon, the frame works really well with air shock! Not the best motor, but plenty of juice and a really nice and natural power delivery when going up technical single track (not sure why you need 1000w when doing proper MTB) and when climbing fire road, got enough juice to bang off the speed limiter constantly! If you want a bike that brings you up the hill comfortably and rips down the hills, probably above it's weight /travel particularly if you do not ride every week within high mountain ski resort like I do, this is a bike I recommend considering. BTW, flat out, I do with one charge 45-50km / 1500m D+ no problem (I weight 85kg). All this for ~EUR5k less than any other brand with same equipment !
    My only complain: the integrated headset! (Unnecessary too complicated)

      @@BenoitCajelot I agree with you, Im not sure who needs 1000w on a bike, i have a Bosch CX4 and I can count with the finger of one hand the times I used the turbo mode in the last 3 years, instead of 1000w they should lower the power and increase the range in the DJI.
      No Shimano is not even a topic to cover, there is a reason why 90% of the latest models bikes are coming out with Bosch, Shimano is nothing but problems or at least on my experience.

    • @BenoitCajelot
      @BenoitCajelot 2 месяца назад +1

      @@catalinspoiala9343 The EP801 isn't the best motor in terms of punch and endurance but as someone who is only willing to climb confortably as opposed to be the fastest climber, I've no complaint, it does the job just fine. Going down, the motor isn't making that much noticeable noise so far (done ~600km with it) although the Sresh is particularly quiet. For context, I ride in a medium height mountain area with lots of technical, mostly rocky trail with lose rock everywhere. This is the type of terrain where the Sresh really shines to my experience, super fun to ride, a bike that that is easy to to bunny up and turning really well (got the Mulet set up). The only complains I have is the headset which started to be noisy after a few hundreds KMs. Propain has sent me a replacement headset assembly which I will install next week and which hopefully will solve the headset noise issue I experienced recently.

      @ i dont think shimano has done much improvements other that electronic and software, however, shimano still way behind when it comes to reliability and performance, there is a reason why 90% of the bikes being released have the Bosch power unit, you will never go wrong with that, having a bosch is like having a 1998 toyota corolla 😂😂😂 my friend has 6k miles on his with 0 issues and battery the still giving him the proper range, i have 3500 on mine 0 issue, all my friends with shimano or brose have gone through at least one motor each.

    I don't quite get why many people get so annoyed by 1) a bit of motor noise...?? These motors are somewhat primitive... a bit of whir etc. is to be expected - they are motors after all... i.e. not analog. 2) battery level display. If the battery display has 10 bars like this one does, then you are getting 10% increments, and you quickly get used to an approximate amount of time/effort is involved between the 10% increments, so you have a very good idea of how much battery you have left and when you will run out of battery....

      Power and connectivity-wise I think they are not so different, but since bosch has solved the rattling issue, I would not be willing to spend thousands of dollars on an ebike with such a major flaw from now on. Before, you just made your peace with it because it didn't make any difference if bosch or shimano (and most bikes are using one of the two systems), but from now on you have a choice and I wouldn't accept it anymore, because I would always have in mind, that there is a more pleasant alternative (to be fair, it took bosch a long time to fix it, but finally it happened). It's even more noticeable on a bike like this, optimized for rough terrain. So when buying a NEW bike, I would also not take anything with shimano, until they fix this issue as well (and it will not getting fixed on older motors, don't expect shimano to release a kit to update the current ep801 when buying such a bike now, this will not happen). For older bikes, where you get huge discounts, it's something you can easier tolerate in my opinion, but for new bikes within a higher price range shimano is no longer a reasonable motor choice until they fix this issue. I think bike brands will notice this quite soon (santa cruz made the right choice to switch to bosch, shimano can no longer be seen as premium)

Have to say I'm unimpressed by the noise the motor makes, but that's most of them. Nice that it comes with the Fox 38 and is rated bombproof. These are improvements over stuff like my old Levo, came with in this price point that isn't recommended for a coil either. Better? Yes. Marginally better? Yes. Enough to make me change up? Not really. I think if you ride E and you initially bought a bike spec'd like this, you are probably looking for more suspension on your next bike if you ride places that can make use of it. Otherwise you will just keep riding whatever you bought. For me I want 180mm+. If I have a motor for dragging around extra kit, then extra suspension is the kit I want to drag.
