    It’s awesome to see you getting more confident in your painting and your video editing/dad jokes. It’s a subtle reminder to us all that we’re leaving a part of ourselves on the canvas with every brush stroke. So make it yours. You’re slowly moving up the list of favorite paint instructors on YT. Thank you for all you do and for all our sake, please keep them coming! -Josh

    Another absolute beauty Paul, WOW! 🤩
    It was also quite synchronous that you chose to open this the way you did as I'VE been going through that exact thing for the last few months and haven't even hardly looked at doing art, putting myself second...and I've been physically exhausted so that hasn't helped either. LOL If I didn't know better I would have thought you had somehow eavesdropped on my life! 😆😅😂🤣
    I still totally look forward with great anticipation to your new weekly videos as they're always filled with fabulous tips and advice! It kind of reminds me of how I would look forward to my fave TV programs growing up here in the states. It was something my family would stop everything for and we would treat it like a very special occasion, which it was and is so thank you for that wonderful jaunt back to a simpler and beautiful time Paul! 🙏
    Before I get outta here I just wanted to commend your videos and how they're not only superbly done production-wise but the extra time, creativity and love you put into it with your skits and outtakes! Those are right up there with your talents as an artist, even the "bad jokes" (I had a little extra "time on my hands" and wanted to sliiiiiiide that in there! 🤗🤣 IF you ever decide to quit making painting instruction videos, and we ALL hope that day doesn't come for a looong time, you could certainly show folks how to make informational AND entertaining videos! In my humble opinion, you're a master at both and I THANK YOU for it all sir!
    Many blessings Paul and give your little fur babies a loving stroke or two from us! Gotta keep your supervisors happy ya know! LOL

    0:18 - That's some words of wisdom there Paul, and you're so very correct. We do tend to become so wrapped up in things (in my case, my company) that we forget about the most important thing - which is ourselves. Next thing you know, you wake up to realize that thirty-plus-years have passed you by, and that you're in your mid-50s with some catching up to do, ha-ha. Think I will go ahead and pull the plug and invest in some painting supplies to get started on my painting journey, and give things a whirl (before I retire) because the happiness that we allow to pass us by today simply cannot be found by waiting until tomorrow. Beautiful painting and a fantastic video that's filled with fabulous tips and advice. Thanks so much Paul for being a great inspiration - you're the 🏆

      Hi Steve - thank you for the kind donation to the coffee cup paint funds. I have a special painting in mind and your pennies will go towards the new project. The old addage - don't put of till tomorrow - is very apt. Just keep things simple - a small box of water mixable oils (5 basic colours and white) and a couple of canvas panels (12" x 16") will get you started. Its what I call my shoebox studio setup. You'll be amazed at how much you can do with this. Enjoy the journey - Paul 😃😎

    Yeah Paul, I gotta agree with some of the folks here that this is far from being for beginners. It's still a challenge for me and I'm getting pretty good (well, practiced) 😊
    Hey, I have a favor I'd ask of you. Bill Alexander did a painting of an open book with a pair of glasses on it. It also has a glass beside it. He did a really rushed job of it and I again wondered why he and Bob both complained that they (and we, would eventually suffer this same problem) that being the worry of not how well we will paint but WHAT we would paint, indicating that there is eventually a shortage of ideas. Why did they not make 2 shows of one painting? Why did they always have to do one painting per episode? Is there some strange enforcement forces a one painting one show-one painting rule? I would much rather have had old Bob spend an hour on each of his paintings. From what I've seen, the paintings he didnt rush through had much more detail. Anyway, on to the favor. I told u how I got into painting. The bucket list. I swear to you I'm not "playing the cancer card" as my ex wife said once when I asked her to stop being so mean and nasty 😊. I would really like to be able to paint an old open book on a table with a pair of old wire framed glasses and a coffee mug beside and I bet you're just the guy who could teach us how to do it! 😂If you aren't interested or don't know the method involved, I'm still gonna love ya! I just thought I'd ask. I thought it would be a great gift to make to friends and family. A painting of an old Bible on an old timber table, old gold wire framed glasses setting on it. Coffee mug or wine glass beside it.. Just an idea I'm sure others here would love. I'd make you a donation for the time and mats! And I'll go ahead and say please😂 I any case, keep up the good work! You're my favorite teacher! That includes RUclips. I think you're even better than old Bill or Bob and I'm not blowing smoke when I say that. I don't give disingenuous flattery. You are a better teacher and that's just a fact. Are you the better painter? No, I would never say that about the three of you. There are some youtube instructors here who, for the life of me, I can't figure out how they passed their license tests because I have a 5 year old nephew who paints better than a few of these people who want to build a business out of youtube instructing. Thank goodness you're not one of these people. All that said, I'll say again, your gentle humility, backed by very good skills, show that you're a rare breed of man that's difficult to find and becoming moreso these days. Humble, gentle, very kind, highly skilled, incredibly affable. Yes. That is indeed, a rare combination.

    • @PaulRansonArt
      @PaulRansonArt  4 месяца назад +1

      Hi - well the why's and whens of the past will never be known. I know the shows were massively influenced by the cost of studio time and of course the scheduals. As a small RUclips creator I'm also constrained by time. It takes a solid week to paint and make a video between other life events. I like the idea of the book and table still life. Its a classic thats been repeated through the ages - usually bell, book and candle. Sometime a skull for good measure. But could I make this video in a week? I'll add it to my growing list of ideas for future subjects and who knows it might be a new video one day. Now back to the task at hand - another 'beginner video' Even after a lifetime of painting I'm still a beginner and still don't know enough. Happy painting - Paul 😎

    I remember watching Bob Ross painting a cabin and he had a g happy accident he missed, the marbled effect of his knife created an amazing effect of what looked like a very detailed interior of the cabin, but I don’t think Bob noticed it

      Yes I see it now - looks like a yeti. I've seen a few weird and wonderful happy accidents on my own and thers art during classes. I well remember teaching how to break snow on a mountain. Looking around the class I watched a chap break perfect snow first time. He jumped up and stood back in amazement. Then a few more stood back too stare at it. There in front of us was a series of faces like Mt. Rushmore. Just a happy accident. - Paul 😃😎

      And also can I use black gesso instead of liquid oil medium in oil painting

    • @PaulRansonArt
      @PaulRansonArt  4 месяца назад

      You've chosen some great colours but I need to clarify the order. Black gesso is a water based paint applied to a canvas and left to dry completely. This is the first stage.If you don't have a liquid oil medium you can still paint a Northern Lights it will just need a little more blending as the paints are stiffer. Apply the colours as you wish but remember Crimson Red and Sap Green make Brown for don't put them side by side on the canvas. Crimson Red and Ultramarine Green make black so think about where you use these on the canvas. I'n my experience just use 3 main colours unless you have a really big canvas. Maybe Crimson at one end, Green ate the other and blue in the centre. Blue goes with most other colours. Hope this helps - Paul p.s. experiment first on a scrap canvas to see how the colours work.😃😃😎😎 @@ttpunboxing4097

      @PaulRansonArt  4 месяца назад

      Hi Vicki - it's a challenge to know what a beginner's painting is. I struggled painting fir trees that a 'beginner' paints with ease. But find cabins easier than some. I've tried to include as many techniques folk might like to try to progress from being a beginner to a more confident painter. So I hope this painting does stretch one's abilities Taken step by step this painting might give folk some idea what they find easier and where they might find their challenges. Lots more paintings to come so hope to see you again - Paul 😃😎
