The Old King Jaehaerys only became king when he rose up in rebellion against his uncle Maegor the Cruel. Maegor was a grown man, a fierce warrior and he had Balerion the Black Dread, the biggest dragon the Targaryens ever had, the one that melted Harrenhal and wiped out the Kings of the Reach. Jaehaerys was just a boy and Vermithor was a LOT smaller back then. Jaehaerys knew that one on one, Vermithor would never defeat Balerion and it would be a suicide mission but he saddled him up and flew to war because his uncles tyranny had to end Hugh risked his own life to save a woman he'd never met before, facing down a dragon armed with nothing but his courage, it's no wonder Vermithor chose him
This is a bit of an exaggeration. The Old King did not fly to war against his uncle or anything; he more or less listened and allowed his mother and Rogar to gather support for his cause, while Maegor continued his self-sabotage at King’s Landing. He actually does not have too much in common with how Hugh claimed Vermithor, at least not in this sense.
I would love to point out that Hugh’s mother is Saera Targaryen, sister to Jaehaerys the Conciliator. She was cast from the red keep after losing her maiden hood and therefore forced to work in a pleasure house. Hugh said she was treated better because of who she was and paid more as well. I think Hugh looks an awful lot like Jaehaerys, and the fact that he is Vermithor’s next rider is just so full circle to me. Vermithor knows his last rider was a man of honor and peace, and I think he senses that with Hugh as well.
This scene gave me strong Jurrassic Park T-Rex vibes. There's just something in the cinematography that amplifies the feeling of mass and magnitude. Amazing job!

@@joshuabelmonte12For someone who had spent all of their days wanting for basic necessities like food, not needing to want anymore seems a little more innocent
People hype up Vhagar, and for good reason, but I think Vermithor is seriously underrated. Vhagar is at the point in her life where she’s genuinely becoming slow. She seems to enjoy a good scrap if she can get into it, but her best days are behind her. On the other hand, Vermithor is approaching her size, he’s in his prime and is still fast and strong, and he’s specifically noted to be the fiercest dragon currently alive. It’s likely that in a 1v1, he’d have a pretty even chance of pulling a win despite Vhagar’s size advantage.
While it's true that Vermithor chose him because of his guts, it's also equally likely it was because his hands were bleeding. We see that briefly at 1:45, and it was probably that blood that made the dragon recognize that this is Jaeherys' grandson. They made it a point earlier in the episode as Rhaenyra puts her hand near Vermithor's nose, and it was clear it was her scent that made him calm down.

@George-Hawthorne If I’m remembering the book right, the Blacks did actually do a little more preselecting and sorting based on personality instead of just sending all of them down in one group. The more timid ones went to Silverwing (relatively more docile) and the warriors went to Vermithor (the super aggressive one). They weren’t going to send the meek washerwoman and shy blacksmith’s son to try to claim the Bronze Fury lol, they wanted/needed a warrior for that! @@jasvex What isn't these days lol.
@George-Hawthorne
If I’m remembering the book right, the Blacks did actually do a little more preselecting and sorting based on personality instead of just sending all of them down in one group. And Silverwing did reject more than a few riders too, she just didn’t kill or even hurt them.
@@oblivioussenpai8109 Precisely, which is why I don't like this scene Though Hugh claiming Vermithor was well done.
Right on, I was hoping there would be a big BBQ.
I love Vermithor's chortle ^^ It's one big "All you can eat with Entertainment" Buffet for him ^^
You're not yourself when you're hangry....
Can anyone tell me which BGM it was starts from 3:18
pretty sure it's "The Power of Prophecy"
@@krlo17 thanks a lot KING
"Girlboss"
It's Rhaenyra's theme
Vermithor literally smitten at Hugh I can’t
I was so hyped watching this scene. It definitely gave me resurrected Jon Snow vibes. The anticipation, the suspense, the big reveal. Was definitely one of the best scenes yet.
imo this is top 5 scenes in the show idk why i like it that much
"So given that we dont know who the dragon would choose and our last attempt of finding a rider did not go too well, we will let you go in one by one of an voluntary basis. This way we can be sure he wont fire vomit the lot of you" - said Rhaenyra, never.
Havent watched the full series yet, but can anyone explain why they seem to like, fill the room with a whole crowd of people for this? Seems thats just asking for needless deaths and more chance of provoking the dragon. Would be much better in small groups of like 4 max.
Eh, probably for the dramatics. @@oblivioussenpai8109 Tha would have been awesome to see!
Because Rhaenyra wants a slaughter. She is turned on by the suffering of others
vermithor respected that hugh yelled at him and had no fear.
Is there a reason why Caraxes flames like instantly incinerate people but all the other dragons just set them aflame?
My theory is they can control the heat of their flames. Caraxes was incinerating some enemies/trash. Vermi was just cooking some snacks.
@@SopranohooperCaraxes likes his s’mores burnt to a crisp while Vermithor prefers when the marshmallow is golden brown and just a little melty
He made the EXACT SAME noises when the queen commanded him to serve and when Hugh yelled at him
When I was a kid, Vermithrax in Dragonslayer scared me, but now I see this and think how awesome it would be to claim a dragon like this. From Vermithrax to Vermithor, how my perspective has changed.
"COOOOOMEEEE OOOON" "CAMAN? The Valyrian word for free dragon ladies... HELL YEAAAAH!!!Show me where, little man, I will drive us" - Vermithor
I hope Hugh dosent abuse his right being cocky while riding Vermithor, be a good man Hugh!
So far it seems as if he hasn't, but Ulf definitely has
He *chuckles* lmaoooo "C'MON" Vermithor "chuckle chuckle" ok lil guy let's dance
3:20 Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen looking extra triumphant.
0:01 brootal. Didnt meet the mog requierments.
Vermithor: time to cook and eat some peasants 😋
