I watched him for his 10 yr career and was often amazed. Even on a play were he caused 8 guys to miss and only got 1 yard. I loved every minute of it. And what is often overlooked is the line that was supposed to block for him was mediocre at best. Look at his total yards for his entire career and you could double them if he had a good offensive line to block for him

    You're super cool my friend.
Just so you know (from somebody who watched Barry for years) ...I'm sure his ankles were pretty stout, but his thighs were like tree trunks of pure muscle.
That, combined with his sensational juke & fakes, and his EXPLOSIVE acceleration is all part of the recipe that made him so magical... not to mention he was **also** the most humble superstar to ever play.

Barry Sanders had a very low center of gravity, absolutely ridiculous agility, and an utterly unbelievable sense of balance. The only way you were going to tackle him is if you hit him straight on and did it perfectly. While he WAS fast, everyone had one or two faster guys on defense. It was how insanely hard it was to tackle him, coupled with his unreal acceleration (zero to full speed pretty much instantly), that made him so dangerous.
He actually retired young, and was 1-2 seasons away from the all-time rushing title when he retired. The Lions had a terrible front line and no passing game, and between that and the coach, he just burnt out and came to hate playing football. But that means, also, that all those amazing runs you just saw? In more of them than not, they were actually stacked hard against running plays...and he STILL did that.

9:27 When a player runs or is forced out of bounds with the ball, it's handed to the Ref or the Ref gets another ball to put into play. Where the ball goes out of bounds becomes the line of scrimmage (where the next play begins).

Sanders' 40 time was 4.37 seconds - anything under 4.4 is very fast, especially for a short guy who weighs a lot more than typical for his height (because of his strength). The 40 yard dash is used to test players' straight-line speed.

Sanders was very fast but many defensive backs were as fast or faster. His balance was unreal but what separates him from all else was his acceleration. He could stop and go faster than anyone before him and ever since. Simply incredible.

Agreed. His ability to stop on a dime and change direction without missing a beat is unparalleled. He's the best at 60 to 0 and back to 60 than anyone else.

Not just the cuts and runs but alot of those runs no one even touched him. the side line run when they said he ran out of gas, He only had 1 shoe on. he lost it at the line. That guy is the GOAT.

Height: 5 ft 8 in (1.73 m) Weight: 200 lb (91 kg). He wasn't big, but he was elusive. On the number 8 highlight, the guy who he faked out was John Lynch, Hall of Fame safety.
