    Thanks for the update. Hurricane Sally got my MFJ Endfed about halfway down the wire. Gotta make a splice and retune it.

    I have the same antenna. I had my tree guy bring his bucket truck to raise the end up to about 35 feet The matchbox is about 10 feet in the air and the wire is about 124 ft with a coil about 6 ft from the matchbox. I can now be heard in Vancouver BC 5-7 compared to 3-3 on a steady basis. Also I have little problem being heard as I hunt POTA in those pile ups. I can also hear a tad bit more. I bought mine straight from myantennas.

      Nice, 124’ is a monster size 👍

      I have 1 of the "no tuner needed" ULTIMAX EFHW and it needs a tuner on ALL BANDS!! Using my mfj analyzer it shows swr sweet spots are all approx 1 mehz too high in freq. iI think if i make it longer it will be better. AM I THINKING CORRECTLY?

    Another good video, Ape. How does this one compare with the HF Kits you built? As far as tuning I have seen some cut the element at halfway point to move resonance up to 75m portion (this is with 80- 10). I can’t remember his name but I think it was Steve Ellington or something. You can learn a lot on RUclips University. 😆

    • @TheSmokinApe
      @TheSmokinApe  2 года назад +1

      Hey Brent, this one can handle more power then the one I build, but I don't run an amp so it doesn't matter. I like these quite a bit but they are expensive.

    ❓❓❓APE I have a question❓ I know that you have both this EFHW and you built the ARRL EFHW Kit, In your opinion are these antennas are about the same with their performances or, are their noticeable differences that one has over the other. I have a close friend and we were discussing this the other day and we would appreciate your input as you have used both and we only have the ARRL kit that we both built with your video help. Thanks Mike 73 KV5P

    • @TheSmokinApe
      @TheSmokinApe  2 года назад +1

      Hey Mike. Being honest, I haven't noticed a big difference. The MyAntennas is rated to 1,500w I believe and the ARRL to 300w, so if you are running high power that might be something worth looking into.

    • @brentjohnson6654
      @brentjohnson6654 2 года назад

      @@TheSmokinApe I just asked the same question. If the my antenna is rated higher I assume it has stacked 2 or 3 toe -roids for the heat. Good to hear that theee are similar in performance.

    Why moving to steel? Isn’t copper best, or does it really not matter once tuned? Thx!

    • @TheSmokinApe
      @TheSmokinApe  2 года назад +1

      Copper is best but it can stretch, so people with sometimes us copper clad steel.

    Someone told me on fb that I shouldn't do a sweep of all the bands at same time, that I would get false readings.

    • @TheSmokinApe
      @TheSmokinApe  4 года назад +2

      The NanoVNA only has a certain amount of data points per sweep. The wider the sweep the further apart the data points can be, that can impact your readings. I sweep bands individually as well as grouped, for this sake of time in this video I displayed the readings as a group. Thanks for the comment/ feedback 👍

      @@TheSmokinApe I'm not sure if I'm calibrating mine well, I have a Nelson end fed and yesterday I set in and invented L and I measure it. Apparently is like at 1.2 swr at 20m but also about 1.8 at 2m. When I measure it with the Icom 7300 it says it's more than 3, so the internal tunner won't work but I heard lot's of people on 20m.

    I'm completely shocked at the amount of hams. Who come into the hobby who can't make a simple antenna. Spoke to a G station bragging that he paid £350 for a fishing pole and wire and went on to say he bought it off callum at dx cammander. I laughed so much at this idiot. 10 mtr pole £30 100 mtrs of wire £15. Then their the eBay clowns who build these ununs. Fortunately I came across 1 at our radio club and had the opportunity to open it. Let's put it this way my 9yr old son could of made it look more tidy. Uk antennas cashing in on information freely available on the Web. Point in if your a radio ham build your own antenna.

      What seems easy to some may seem complex to others. I try to help folks learn through encouragement, I’m not trying to shame anyone who hasn’t had the opportunity to learn. That said, I agree, that building antennas is easy and rewarding 👍
