The scary thing about these springboks is that they arrive with a new style of game within such a short time...hardly any kicking!!...against a very strong Ireland team...yet still keeps the leaderboard ticking and staying in the lead the whole game...no matter when ireland scored..then they score...must be friggin frustrating playing this nation.

@Sineadmcd I love this, the springboks beat Ireland for the first time in 8 years and suddenly their the greatest thing since you know what.I didn't hear these glowing tributes to Ireland when they beat them during the world cup,but then again there always be a reason for not celebrating Ireland. It's one match, calm down, because if you checked the score it was by one score and that was including all the injuries Ireland had and players not available. Always remember countries like south africa, new zealand etc.have massive player pools to choose from over Ireland.Ireland still has a brilliant rugby team.

Many South Africans have been calling for a more expansive running game for years. The South African sides of the amateur era were precisely that - full-court monsters who put virtually everyone to the sword, including New Zealand. An attritional forwards-dominated game crept in during the late 1990s and has dominated the Boks ever since. The strategy has been successful in World Cups and Lions series and does exploit one of the country's core strengths - its forwards. However, it neglects another - the astonishing depth of backline talent.
It's time to tap into both reserves equally and to shift emphasis away from the pack to the backs, and to shift some of the roles and responsibilities of the forwards to make them comparable to what one sees in Ireland, New Zealand and France. This is what Brown has been brought in to do and he's an ideal person to do it - a true All Black who did great things with the Highlanders. I've often wondered what kind of team would be produced if you combined the best of the men in black with the (SH) men in green. If we get even a fraction of the brilliance that characterised the great All Black sides of the past two or three decades, South Africa will be very, very hard to beat. They already are, of course, but they've got there mainly by route one rugby - kicking for territory, smashing the opposition until they concede a penalty or a turnover, and then bursting through defensive lines with heavies or driving mauls. Adding some innovation, not just to our open play but to our set pieces as well, will make the Boks a more rounded side that can take to the field with a plan A, B and C.

I was also surprised about the running style, which is great, fun fact - do yourself a favor and watch the Craven week for U/18 teams in SA. We grow up running the ball from side to side. Only our professional sides start with extreme structure and phase play. So it is our natural way to run the ball, maybe that is why the Boks made it look so easy to play our "natural" way.

Even if they lose the next game, I don't care. That game should really make them all proud of where we have come as a nation. We're missing players but we HAVE players. We are always going to have to dig deep against these teams and they did! They stayed in the game and its a debate whether they could have won it in the end. Thats where they are at. As a saffa I don't like how different the Springboks are playing because it's so drastically different. I know that everything has to evolve but this is a bit much so quickly and you could see that on the field. Why wouldn't you start Libbok if you want to move the ball around and do the whole NZ expansive game because Pollard and Faf looked a bit lost at times because they are used to playing behind a dominant pack. Our flow goes thru Pollard and Faf and those guys are so used to keeping a tight flow not this running game we see now. I just think we should not rush into this offensive style because it's not our identity. At the end of the day and I mean no disrespect to the rest of the rugby world but the Springboks way of playing has to be the style that beats the All Blacks and nobody can beat the All Blacks by playing their game.

I have a lot of time for Mr Jackman, but both sides were off the boil on Saturdays. Maybe rust from the Boks and fatigue from Ireland?

O’Mahony had one of the best finishes to his international career, captaining Ireland to a 6n title. The Irfu think he’s finished but because let’s be real, Andy Farrell and Peter O Mahony are basically mates at this stage rather than coach and player, Farrell pushed to get him on another year. He really struggled on Saturday, just look at that passage of De Allende putting him on arse twice in a few seconds. Munster fans will get all sensitive but realistically Munster don’t need him either anymore, Gleeson looks big enough to become a big player for Munster next year and Ahern has been on fire at 6. You’d also say Sean Edogbo and Evan O Connell could be URC players for Munster next year also. POM getting a nice contract in Japan or France to finish his career would’ve made sense for all parties involved. The irish struggled with Bok defense, but those tries that they scored show why they are so good…insane skill to get past that defense and come back fighting…reminds me of the ABs whenever they were being dominated by the Boks physicality and defensively they would find a way to creep back and win… only difference is the Boks know this, and they know the only way to stop it from happening is to score more points… hence the new back line expansive style. Ireland have some pride to salvage and the Boks will want to play with better accuracy in their game.

Springboks have to reach a balance eventually. May be sooner may be later, but full attack every game from everywhere won't be sustainable for them. Alister Coetzee's Boks showed that. But Rassie knows that and he won't dismiss his kicking and set piece game. I'm sure he's aiming for a balance rather than wholesale changes.

  • @danieljacobs788
    @danieljacobs788 16 дней назад

It is rather evident that the Boks continue to confuse their rivals and critics.
As a coach, Rassie is a maverick in everything he does, which means that his tactics are unpredictable.
The biggest problem for the critics is that changing the laws and rules to try and restrict us doesn't deliver the desired effect. The Maverick mindset thrives under such conditions.
Every single critic used to complain that Springbok rugby was bland and predictable. Now that they can't keep up with the genius of a coach and the style we play, they complain about the brutality or anything that they can conjure up, as long as it can cause a change in the laws.
Keep up with your own innovation in your approach rather than killing the game of rugby to suit yourself.
Rugby should be a game for the players and fans of it; not a display of refereeing every possible restriction possible.

Can anyone explain why they have called up the Ulster back up scrum half instead of John Cooney? Ulster tried to move Doak to out half as they don't rate him as a starter at 9. Yet Farrell seems to think he is better than Cooney.
That first try was created in the same way that England went wide for their first try against Ireland in the 6N. Ireland were not expecting it. I bet Rassie saw that game and decided to start in exactly the same way. We learned nothing from that it seems,

But lets get Jager in there and put Bealham at loosehead. Start Baird at 6 for a better lineout and bring on Cormac Izuchukwu, why not ? Let Doris develop as the starting captain he obviously needs the practice.

Stormers has always been playing running rugby and its evident in the Bokke who played for Stormers. So for them it's easy to adapt however we could see that other Bokke who's not use to running rugby style was a bit lost in the game. Faf, Pollard etc never looked like they were settled. Kwagga should definitely start in 2nd half as an impact player. Roos no 8 or get Dyamani. If Tony wants to play the running rugby then use Grant Williams as scrumhalf, Libbok as flyhalf, get Dyamani and Warrick Gelant in on the Bok team. Even Thaakir Abrahams of Sharks as a back up wing. So basically some of players at hand aren't the right players for the running rugby game. Rassie should stick to what he knows with the players he have if they don't wanna get other players in who can play running rugby. Thanx. Cape Town.

Scrappy game overall from all sides, probably nerves .. I think Ireland was probably hard done by on the Kolbe try, but to have Pollard off his kicking game like that is rarer than hens teeth. In the end that’s sport. Sometimes I miss the old days … referees make mistakes … that was always part of any game, rugby, football cricket etc but in the old days what the referee saw or didn’t see was final. Sometimes you had a good day sometimes a bad day. Personally I think we should just scrap the TMOs (in all sports) what referees and umpires do.. they do .. that’s just sport ( and life)
