I’ve ignored Kornfield because Buddhism has always eluded my appreciation and understanding. (We even lived near each other and knew people in common… ) and sure enough I find yet another prejudice that shows me where and how I am stuck and how much I can learn by looking at it. Kornfield is now helping me navigate the sudden death of my life partner. We are so fortunate to live in a time where access to this wisdom is wide open and free.
Like him however Really can Not relate to the examples of the white collar upper middle class problems and the laughing . He always throws in some wisdom from the poor and marginalized Who even here are used. Disingenuous
Me too:) i put him on a playlist and let him talk all night. It helps with insomnia. I like that my subconscious is talking in dharma teachings. I also listen to him some when I’m awake😊 May all beings be free❤
I've been feeling my heart open over the last month on my journey. The compassion and love in Jack's voice at the end drove me to tears, thank you for your beautiful soul!
I have been meditating daily with the intention of letting go and being authentic. Two issues came up. That I needed to be who I am. I realize I have not exercised very much of the creativity I have and the other, which I first thought I was over, was being regularly bullied in Jr. High. The two came together when I decided to join a story telling group. My choice was about a bully who atoned for his bullying. As I rehearsed it did not go as planned. Soon after beginning my story I broke down. My tears flowed and each time I tried, it happened over and over again. Clearly, I am not over this. I am not sure how to let this go. I try thinking of my young self and being kind to that young guy and understanding of the situation. It has not worked. Ideas?? Professional help seems impossible to get and would it even work?
I never got bullied but I think the logical way through this is to let a bit the trauma surface like you did whilst reading but then to switch focus to understanding that the bully never hated you, only himself. As Aldous Huxley describes them is a frustrated muscle man, or delinquent one in your case. Cruelty toward you as some kind of momentary boost to their own lack of self-worth, hard to pity them but one must. It completes the understanding your mind needs for resolution. Should work in theory, this understanding/forgiveness is stored as muscle tension and may be hard to tap into as it's different to the trauma bit. It's always like this, just like opening to love is much easier than acknowledging loneliness. One is the key to understanding that is craved, the other is the healing. The bully will have self-esteem issues that need some kind of key too. I hope this helps matey.
Is there a difference between attachment and expectation in relationships? Certain thing are expected in relationships but may be looked at as attachment wanting to impose personal desires on the other person
To act well with no expectation to the outcome.... Heart centred attachment, is necessary, as with our children.... In our work, we do the work with diligence and integrity, not to gain acclaim or validation and yes there is payment, but the heart of it is to do our absolute best with a kind and good heart! My feeling anyway.

Thats coz u listen with ur critical mind. This is about training to listen with your heart. Its easy to make fun of profound wisdom by confusing the levels.
I understand your feelings. I was having the same problem but it seems that different audiences respond differently as with everything... and towards the end I was beginning to relax with it.

Attachments and getting evolved into situations that are not our own. Theres going to be pain when we interact with our thoughts.

Love that line Jack ! How is your day ? Suffering! If yes, Ahh, must be attached! 😂 I may use that line if you don’t mind! Will mention of you! 😊😇
Listening for the first time.
I'm finding these podcasts very helpful and calming. Learning to let go is very hard. But I'm working on it.
:)
Me too. The description of attachment in western psychology versus eastern really helped clear it up for me. Letting go is a challenge for me too.

…Probably because he talked about Israel & Palestine.
big JK fan ❤ but i wasnt able to resonate with the story about the israeli soldier. Would people give that much empathy to a Nazi soldier?
Keep in mind that this video was released 7 years ago, before the latest conflict
Yes I wish I could hear someone’s advice that doesn’t sit in a chair all day
Let it be ( hahaha ) I have a gun to my head but haha just let it be. Hearing these soccer mom's laugh at your jokes is not helping me.
