The movie "Van Wilder" was based on Bert's college career, in part. He more comfortable shirtless because he sweats a lot and he's more self conscious about that than being shirtless!

As others have said this story is true. It has some embellishments but even his classmates have confirmed it. Also Bert once commented that partying with the cops was even crazier than partying with the mob guys.

Isn't there a radio interview that Bert did where he had confirmed it and said classmates have pictures to prove it, and that he said he was more afraid of the cops than he was the gangsters? I think I saw it once or twice.
@@Starfire1408 yah I'm not sure where to find the interview though. But yes there are pictures of it on facebook at least (there was) and yah classmates confirmed it and there are picture. Plus he did say partying with the cops was scarier than with the mob.

Great vid, the shirt off is just his thing; he does it for all is stand ups. I'd suggest Tom Segura for future vids- he's on netflix and they're pretty good

From what i have heard its partly a tactile thing, he doesnt like the feeling of shirts, and he is just a big party person, so he went on stage one time and took his shirt off and one of his friends told him that was something he was going to have to do from now on cause it became part of who he was on stage
I've saw him 3 times and met him twice and as soon as he gets on stage the shirt comes off.
He sweats so much with one on, so he does comedy shirtless.

The mob was very powerful in Russia during the 90's. After the fall of the Soviet Union, there was a huge power vacuum that the federal government wasn't able to fill for a while, during that period, the mob kinda run some essential aspects of the government. Bert description of the corruption that was there is kinda accurate. After Putin came to power in the beginning of the 2000's The federal government was able to take control over everything important so the situation got better.
A few people already commented that is basically a true story and the movie Van Wilder is based on him.... If you search you can find a few pictures of him and the mob guys in Russia.
Bert Kreischer was the actual inspiration for the character of Van Wilder. Playboy wrote an article about him back in the day while he was in college, touting him as the ultimate college party animal.
I've seen this vid so many times, but it felt brand new watching it along with you guys! He has said that it was a completely true story, as this was in the 90's and he has explained this in interviews.

Bert's classmates have confirmed this story. There are actually photos of him and Igor floating around the internet. Fanny pack and all. He said the police were the scariest ones to party with because they didn't care about anything. This guy was also the inspiration for the movie Van Wilder. This might come off as a complaint but it's not intended that way. I love your videos and your reaction to this. But I just feel like I have to say something about reactions to this clip in general: I've watched tons of reactors watch this story. You'd think I'd be tired of hearing the story but I'm not it's one of my favorites. What has gotten old though is EVERY single person getting hung up on him not wearing a shirt. I get it, it's unusual and worth a comment or two at the start but why do most reactors feel they have to keep talking about it over and over like there just has to be some huge secret as to why he's not wearing one. First time I watched it, I thought it was weird for about 5 seconds then I moved on and didn't really give it another thought.

The reason why The Machine AKA Bert was famous with the Russian Mafia was because of the very first Igor gangster telling other Mafia gangsters through phone conversations about Bert the American Party Machine...oh and Bert has found the 1st Igor of the story and they are going to make The Machine Movie and Igor is going to be the onset consultant for accuracy and I bet/feel Bert is going to play the first Igor of the story in the movie...I can't wait to see Bert not get screwed out of acknowledgment on a movie that was based on Bert like how he got screwed on the Van Wilder movie
As far as I understand early in his career Bert was bombing and as a hail mary he took his shirt off and it improved things lol. After that taking off his shirt at the beginning of shows became his gimmick he was known as the shirt off guy.

This story is true, Van Wilder is based on him because he was the biggest partier at the hardest partying college in the country, and he doesn't wear a shirt at any of his comedy specials. It's just his signature thing.

The reason why he doesn't wear a shirt while doing his stand up is because it happened by accident one time and he has said that when he wears a shirt he looks even more fatter..I also think when he is shirtless it makes him feel more mentally comfortable when doing his stand up

His story is a true story. It is exaggerated, and he does speak some Russian as you can see in his routine. He does not wear a shirt because he gets hot under the lights, as do all performers, and not wearing a shirt became his thing.

That's the last story of on of his stand up routines. Burt, is great, his time at Florida state uni was the real life inspiration for the film, 'Van Wilder Party Liaison'.
Bert tends not to wear a shirt in his hour-long specials because, according to him, it gets way too hot spending over an hour under the spotlight. In an interview, he explained that he had to decide to go without a shirt or constantly drink water& towel off like most comedians do. As you can see, he chose the former as an alternative.

The first time I saw Bert Kreischer was his appearance on Hot Ones where the interview is accompanied by progressively hot wings with each question. I haven't seen any reaction channel check out any Hot Ones episodes and there is plenty of comedy gold there.

It cracks me up that EVERY reaction to the machine story has numerous comments about how .....it's a true story, Van Wilder was based on him, there's pics of him and Igor. You aren't breaking new ground with the comments lol.
You need to see his story about his daughter told to Conan. It’s better than the special bit on the same story. Conan’s nervousness and laughter made the bit. His Rachel Ray bit from this special is good too. Supposedly he was more nervous hanging with the mafia cops than the regular mafia. No one could tell them no. He came out with a shirt on then instantly took it off.

On a podcast He also talked about how the time he spent with the Russian police was even crazier since they themselves were basically an organised gang in the 90s and with no one to police them since they were the police. He said they did even crazier stuff than the mob

As everyone has pointed out, the story is true, the best part however is on the trip back they had him party with the gangsters again because noone actually got hurt on the trip out to Moscow.
