I truly respect that your team doesn’t shy away from publishing these difficult hunting scenarios. You continue to capture the highs and lows of archery hunting. We’ve all been there and can relate to those emotions. The respect you show for the game you hunt is why I only share your hunting content with my young son and avoid other channels who glorify the kill instead of the experience. Thank you for the way your represent our hunting community.

Watching the footage it almost looks like he ducked it as well Zach i think it's little of both with the high shot him closing the distance and u thinking 28yds and him trying to duck the shot. But i commend anyone willing to put the effort forth to be a responsible hunter.Jared from whitetail adrenaline did it few years back and was rewarded with that Monster typical he hunted hard after a bad hit. Its bad feeling without the closure but don't ever give up on the" Zach Attack " approach.

This is one of the best archery videos I’ve ever seen. A few years back I lived this scenario, but from a tree stand. Ten days later, during the first day of the gun season, I jumped a similar buck that had bedded about 50 yards from my parked truck. I dropped him where he stood and to my surprise and delight I found a clean arrow hole in his front shoulder. To make things even more satisfying, I found that someone had shot him in a lower back leg on the neighbors property that very morning and I was able to finally close the deal and end his suffering. Your video, hunting skills, and determination are inspiring! I really liked your use of game cameras to follow up. Great job! Looking forward more videos.

Way to stay dedicated to finding that brusier long after the shot. Thanks for keeping it real and not being afraid to show and talk about mistakes that were made. I do believe you shooting a fast enough how that 6 to 8 yards is not going to cause a well placed shot to be non-lethal. From the footage it looks to me like that buck dropped significantly when you released, causing a greater deviation with point of impact. Keep doing what you are doing. Love the content and the straight forward, no B.S. approach you guys take.

I think the deer saw the movement as you shot, heard the bow or both and dropped at your arrow release just enough for the arrow to hit higher than your aim point. Otherwise known as jumped the string. It happened to me and many others. Welcome to the club Zach. Great stalk and outstanding video. I saw the follow up video so the story ends better than most hunters experience when something like this happens.

Zach I'm with you on this one. I completely understand, I also get a bit impatient after several hours or days of not seeing anything or seeing them at a distance and never getting closer. That's the time when, I turn on the "seek and destroy switch" and begin to stalk hard after there trails until I come close to them. In my personal experience, these situations is where I have gained the most deer hunting knowledge then any other way of hunting that I do. (The great thing is that this year, I started to teach my young son this method of hunting and he totally enjoyed it) Thanks for sharing your experience Zack.

Zach it is going to happen to all of Us.I have done it a few times in my 48 years of bow hunting.. It’s not a good feeling. You did everything to recover that deer.

You know you guys are the real deal just based on how you handle the situation as soon as that arrow flys. You guys take full responsibility and are great advocates for this sport!

Get the EZ V! I bought one this year and was skeptical, now I love it. I can shoot random yardages from 10-50 and put it in the vitals every time with no range finder or adjustments. Really is the perfect hunting bow sight.

Zach, while this is not my style of hunting (tough to do on the terrain I hunt) I will say you are the most impressive hunter I know of. Seeing you cut the distance on bucks bedded in the wide open is amazing. I can not imagine doing that myself. It is a work of art. As far as the buck in this video I think it was more of he "jumped the string" rather than your error on shot placement. That buck being very well alert looked like he dropped much more before impact than an error between 20 and 28 yards. If he did not drop he would have been dead right there...and there is no 100% on what will happen after the arrow leaves the string. Don't beat yourself up too bad. From a fellow Missouri hunter, keep up the great hunts!!

I completely understand your frustration Zach,
At the very end, watching your shot . Seems to me the buck ducked a bit, which would have contributed used to a slightly higher shot.
I believe your shot was well placed buddy!
Thank you for ALWAYS being entertaining.. AND HUMBLE

Awesome stalk Zach...U my dawg !! Mud, water, cold...nothing stops you when you smell "blood". The only thing I would say is that a 'straight on shot into the neck/chest area drops them dead' Don't be afraid to take that shot. It's highly effective. You are a good enough archer to make that kind of shot. That Buck, in my view, wouldn't have been able to run around.

I had a similar scenario this past season. Put a bad shot on a deer, and i had to really look at what i did wrong so that i could prevent it from happening again. So far this month, I’ve probably shot my bow 800 times in hopes that i can be way more accurate.
As of now, im more confident at 50 yards, than i was at 30 when i went into last season. Y’all are my main inspiration to better myself in the deer woods.

Sorry to see this for you Zach! I agree with the comments that he ducked to add to the little high shot. You put in the effort to find him so that shows your ethics!

I had the same thing happen to me with a big buck a few years ago. Lost blood and never found him or got closure! Like you said, that's hunting and it doesn't always go as planned, even when you do everything right! Happy hunting, enjoy your videos 👊😎

Hey Zach, stuff happens. You did a great job hunting that buck and did everything you could after the shot was released. I feel like the buck probably healed up. Maybe you will cross paths with him next season. Keep your chin up.

Zack - great stalk on that buck! I took the sights off my bow years ago and started shooting instinctive with a release(very short bow - too much finger pinch to shoot fingers) It didn't take long to train the brain and now I'm comfortable shooting out to 40-50 yards like I never was before. Most of my shots on deer are under 20 yards, but there was always a disconnect when trying to gauge the yardage shooting sights, even at close range. Now I don't think about it and am shooting more accurate, especially that first cold shot - which is always the one that counts. Give it a try man - you won't go back. Ditch the range finder and those pesky sights - trust the brain!
