    Take it from a guy who has done most of his kayaking on SOT's. You can take rapids with a lot of confidence and even if you flip you can just flip it back over get back on and keep going without having to empty it. Oh and they're so easy to get in and out of too. Love the stability of this kayak too.

    • @GatewoodBrown
      @GatewoodBrown  3 года назад

      I totally agree with that! Definitely sold on the SOT in Class II rapids. The bailing is just so clutch

    Welcome to the Texas River Kayak Sweet Spot, the 12' SOT! Nice boat- I like the hull design and the way it protects the scupper holes a bit from rock contact, and the removable mesh chair is a plus as you mention. A buddy and me will be hitting the Upper Brazos next week on our WS Tarpon 120s for 40 miles/4 days/3 nights. We'll try to keep the hull side wet and the deck side dry, but no good stories ever came of that.... ;^) Cheers!

    Welcome to the club Brother! Perfect boat for river paddling and camping. Like any boat they have their drawbacks. Big lakes, flooded rivers, keeping up with Pete. But nothing beats a sit on top for comfort. I keep doing rain dances for Texas, but it clearly hasn't worked.

    I'm thinking about getting one of those. But I plan to fish most of the time out of mine. Up in Wisconsin we have several long river systems were canoe/kayak trips occur, some as can last as long as several days through wilderness settings along flat water up to class 2 (mostly, but some class 3-4 as well). My current ride is a canoe, Old Town Guide 119... great solo canoe for the BWCA and Quetico.

    I just stumbled across your channel today and am amazed. I am moving to Texas hill country in a few weeks and am terrified to leave the mountains and recreation of Utah but this gives me hope that Texas will not disappoint. How in the world does one identify camping spots on Texas rivers? Im used to pulling up a blm map in Utah and picking a spot. I know that doesnt exist in Texas and am totally lost when it comes to finding recreation opportunities. Any insight or advice would be appreciated more than you know.

    • @GatewoodBrown
      @GatewoodBrown  3 года назад +1

      Welcome to Texas! It's leagues different from Utah (been there many times all over the State). We don't have much public land so you have to get savvy with laws and use them to your advantage. For rivers, if it is navigable (all the big rivers are) then it is public. Check out my video on how to identify where to camp in a river. In fact, maybe watch all of my 'How to Kayak Camp' videos and it'll help make sense of it all. Luckily Texans don't really utilize public lands outside of State parks so you'll find there to be plenty of solitude out on most rivers.
