  • How about a Catch and Cook on the Pedernales River? This stream in the Texas Hill Country is a tough 2 day Kayak Camping trip spanning quite a few miles.
    A recent flash flood swept through its canyons and left the river full of water. The rivers gush from springs but they didn't have time to clean up the river before we got on it. This landscape was perfect for a spur of the moment camping trip. Weather was hot all weekend! The kayak fishing was decent too, ended up catching dinner!
    I started a dry bag company, Remote Designs!

    • @GatewoodBrown
      @GatewoodBrown  4 года назад +1

      Thank you, marc! I'll have to check those out and add the lures to my tackle box. Fishing has really caught my attention, a great supplement to running these rivers. Shoot, makes for some good meals too!

    @oneandonlyrohto 4 года назад +8

    YESSS!!! GATEWOOD! Great to see you and the boys back in action!! The fishing is getting better and better fitted for you!
    That bass was a solid catch! Remember a fish is better than no fish!! ALSO
    Fishing tip: Learn the 'Texas Rig' set up for your fishing set up. For us Texans we are blessed to have many rivers and creeks to fish throughout our state, therefore when your fishing smaller bodies of water(rivers/creeks) think smaller profile on your lures. (I.E. creature baits, small flukes). Look up the 'Texas Rig' and you can even still fishing it on your spinning rod!
    Always love the content Gatewood!! You guys stay safe man! 🙏👍🤙🤙🤙🤙

      My man! Back and better than ever. Ok so the fishing tips are great, thank you so much for that. I'll add it to my list of notes and try to execute on it. Someone below mentioned Texas Rig setups. I agree. You can fish soft plastics like the craw you were throwing or conventional rubber worms, lizards, etc. That Chatter Bait is usually also a good lure, but you just never know what the fish want that day.
    Keep the awesome videos coming!

    • @GatewoodBrown
      @GatewoodBrown  4 года назад +1

      Hey thank you for all of the protips! I'll have to add these to the tackle box and better hone in my texas rig. I tied the craw on texas rig and low and behold, actually got a bite pretty quick. I never really gave the chatterbait a chance in the more clear water. What color do you usually go for on the chatter? Also, what're your favorite colors for soft plastics? Hope you've been well!

    • @bspcyclist
      @bspcyclist 4 года назад

      @@GatewoodBrown Man, when it comes to bait color choices in relation to water color/clarity, I've read so much info that seems to contradict itself it can make you batty. The best logic I've heard is in clear water you want to use lures that are closest to looking like live bait in muted colors. Like that craw you were using. Or other soft plastics. My favorite colors are watermelon green, purple with glitter flake, and green pumpkin seed.
      In darker, muddier water use brighter colors, with some flash, like chatter baits and spinner baits.
      I fished Lake Raven yesterday, Huntsville State Park. The water was dark but not muddy. I had luck with a white and silver skirted spinner bait with a silver soft plastic trailer. I think it was a Kitech Swing Impact in electric shad.

    Your videos bring back some 40 year old memories, canoe camping for 250 miles in Northern Michigan with dad and 4 brothers, some white water down in WV. Great times with great folks was always the best of days.
    How did that H10 hold up to the rapids, rocks and the head on collision in the other video lol? Im getting a new one at a dam good price. I know you moved onto sit-on type. But I need comfort, bad knees, rods and screws in the back two shoulder surgeries. I cant sit with my legs straight out. I will be doing mostly slower water now, just float and trout fish. Im trying to down size from a my 30 year old plastic 17 ft canoe I been using every year. I would sit in the middle backwards. But the wind would reek havoc. Its good to see you young folks living "Living The Dream" Thanks for any insight and Keep on Keeping on

    The fish are setting below the shoals. The more crooked/ curved the shoal is, the better. If the shoal is crooked because of boulders, when you get to the bottom, if there’s a good size rock, there will be an eddy behind it. You go down the shoal and when you get to the bottom, let the eddy spin the kayak around so you’re facing back up river and throw in the eddy right beside the current.
