- Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak Title Update 2 was recently released, and I'm amazed by the quality of the monsters. I just wanted to make a video talking about them and ranking them based on their quality and my personal taste.

Did you know if you attack Mizutsune at the right time during the spirit bomb it will drop on him and deal 2k+ damage and stagger it?! It’s hilarious. Also they have basically confirmed there will be more risen elder dragons as it’s not a new chameleos it’s simply an elder dragon so it beat the Quirio
Yeah it’s nuts
I love dropping the bubble on him. Funny shit XD
I’ve been able to pull this off pretty consistently with just one bullet barrage from GL
High chance of either chaotic gore magala or risen shagaru magala next update
No no no, not a spirit bomb. It's a Mr. Clean Wipe Out Bomb
The Risens are referred to by their own category in the game and on the website, so it's safe to assume they're like Arch Tempereds and we'll be getting more of them
Gotcha I thought so
Ye they are just powered up monsters, but man do they feel like variants (atleast so far with chammy). If I was blindly reacting to his fight and you told me that he was a variant, I would believe you
What's a difference between variants and risen? Technically speaking they are the same, they just arrive to that tempered version due to another monster vs nature?
@@ninjalawzo All variants, as far as I’m aware, can happen over the natural course of a monster’s life, a Risen would only come into being under the normally unnatural phenomenon of the Qurio attacking it
@@ninjalawzo people tend to compare Risens to arch tempered monsters and all those other type of “powered up monsters”, which aren’t exactly considered seperate monsters, risen and arch tempered are technically in that similar category.
However, some arch tempered monsters barely change, some just have more health and damage and thats it, but with Risen Chameleos so far, he fights differently, and has another rage state he can go into with a handful of new moves. And this isn’t just like the monster having one new attack, chammy got like 5-8 new moves.
So far from what we have seen Risens are powered up monsters, but with what they have they feel like so much more, enough to be considered a variant imo
I don't understand why Desert Seltas queen is in C tier. She literally use her own male as a missile to annihilate you and she can even crush him like a fly to just eat and then respawn another one. That's so cool !
Regular seltas queen can kill and eat the seltas
@@thenotoriousguy it's far more rare
and glacier aganktor at B which I already hate normal agnaktor and glacier is just 20 times more annoying
I don't remember really liking Seething Bazel in World but I found its fight in Sunbreak to be much better. I still don't have much reason to hunt it though.
Rise/Sunbreak improved ALOT of fights. Kushala is actually fun, Silver Rath is actually not a nightmare.
Kushala being fun is the big one for me. Forgives enough from World that Kushala shot up on my favorite monster list, since I’ve always loved its design and concept.
Oh yeah, one of the HUGE upsides to Rise/Sunbreak for me is that no monsters are BAD. No more Kushala and Rathalos-induced headaches is a huge win. Helps that the game is pretty good too.
@@solomon9655 yeah, even f**king Jyuratodus is a good fight now, I am kinda salty though...
they had the Piscine Wyvern skeleton but brought the second worst one?! If Jyuratodus was made better, then maybe they could take Lavasioth and make him fun (I know that sounds like a stretch but it's not impossible) and bring the best fish boi; Beotodus as well! I think the only reason why Beotodus and Lavasioth didn't return is a lack of snow and large lava pools to fight them in (as in quantity, not quality)
But hey; the fact that Jyuratodus was improved this much means that in the next console MH game (which will likely include the aforementioned piscine wyverns) all the piscine wyverns (yes, even Plesioth) could get this treatment... Lavasioth could be like an early game Agnaktor (fought after Rathian but before heavy hitters like Tigrex and the aforementioned Agnaktor) that teaches you how the lava armour works, but make the armour weaker by comparison
and Beotodus wouldn't need that many changes as he was already quite good
this kind of stuff makes me excited for the next game even more!
And Gold Rathian, while still fun, is still just a Rathian
Seething was barely that different to be honest. They added like 2-3 new moves in Sunbreak and that's it. Silverlos from Iceborne was easily the best rendition of Rathalos for me. His head being being hard isn't even a thing in Sunbreak anymore. You can hit it with white sharpness and it still doesn't bounce like what? Agree with Kushala though. Way less annoying though I think they nerfed his wind shield way to much. It's not even noticeable anymore because it's so weak.
Violet Mizu was crazy af and I rock with Flaming and Risen as well, i was rlly annoyed with all the fire variants in Sunbreak but I dont even care because of how good Magmadron, Violet, and Flaming are
FACTS
now we just need some more ice or thunder variants to test the fire weapons on lmao
Well given this team was comprised of those who worked on main line MH and Frontier along with the guy heading Rise and Sunbreak being the man who headed Frontier (Hencewhy Espinas is in the game - it's his actual baby and it's amazing) so we can only hope for more great stuff.
Ohh that makes more sense
I dunno, Flaming Espinas is a returning Sub, but he was kinda a second gen subspecies, making him the FIRST non-recolor actually complex moveset changing subspecies in monster hunter history. Up until then it was all Azure Rath and Pink Rath and Metal Rath with no changes but worse hitzones.
Flaming Espins pioneered the idea of Subspecies drastically changing a monster in Monster Hunter. He was a slow and steady build up fighter back then with tankier but heavier hitting attacks and defense down instead of paralysis.
Pearl Espinas later on, the rare species, also served as the only rare species to be introduced in a second gen era of sorts, and he was even more ridiculous with flame tornadoes and such.
Frontier did us a favor.
I would guess Chameleos' invisibility is harder to track because it's an elder dragon and nargacuga is not
Perhaps but if a monster goes invisible, it should be untraceable, regardless of threat level but that’s what I think
@@Gorguinni I also believe that's how invisibility should work as a mechanic. Capcom probably just wanted Chameleos to stay unique
@@Gorguinni Lucent could be targeted while invisible even back in 3U, while Chameleos and Nightcloak couldn't in any of the games they were in. Being able to be targeted while invisible is a feature exclusive the Lucent, and I'm not sure why.
@@elk3407 I think In sunbreak we finally got an answer to that burning question.
When lucent goes invisible, its eyes do not. Meaning Hunters can track its eye movements whereas Chameleos and Nightcloak become entirely invisible, eyes included.
@@thelostician Not to mention, the fog also reveals Lucent's movement.
I feel like weapon elements and monster elements are kind of disconnected. We have a bunch of dragon weapons but there's only like 2 monsters that actually use dragon element.
Yeah that’s a factor too
I mean in lore the fossils of the old dragons/metals which some weapons are made of are of are most probably from the same Elder Dragon that has Dragon element in there... It's not too far fetched..
I thought there are more than 2? Let's see ... Ibushi, Kushala, Valstrax, Gore and Shagaru Magala, Gaismagorm, Scorned Magnamalo. Just correct me if I'm wrong.
@@herusetiawan5399 Gore, Shagaru, Gaismagorm and Scorned don't actually inflict dragonblight.
@@Dusty_Jack scorned does in his 3rd phase, though his weapon is blast element so it really doesn't mean much
The fire themed variants are repetitive style wise but the movesets are so fun to fight
Yo gorguinni! I love your monster hunter content, please do more
I really like that Flaming Espinas can chain a lot of its attacks much more fluidly, really good fight imo.
Also, Gold Rathian is amazing in Sunbreak imo, has a way better moveset than base Rathian and is in general very fun to fight.
Honestly I was ready to be upset about Violet Mizu cos a) another fire monster??, and b) we could have had Thunder Bubble, but it's such a good fight I couldn't be mad. Oh, and the armour slaps.
Also I was never a fan of Chameleos but Risen really saved him for me, tho I am dreading possible Teo and Kushala Risens in the future.
I agree that we need more endgame thunder element bosses. I'm sick of using khezu bow for my thunder element but thankfully they introduce layered weapons
I know nothing about bow but for most other weapons narwa and zinogre are better
@@spinomania1921 for thunder element melee weapons, narwa is the meta but idk for other melee like dual blades because i don't use dual blades
Maybe White Fatalis?
great vid, my guy
good to see some positivity, i've seen too much whinging about the title updates
what i reaaaaaallly want is a dhalamadur as a great great monster, a revamp fight would be sooooo cool
Risen are, per lore concept technicality, the same thing as apex monsters in MH4U. Apex monsters in MH4U overcame the frenzy virus, and here it seems only elder dragons are able to overcome the qurio affliction.
It's kind of a funny thing, because elders couldn't even be frenzied in MH4U, so they weren't really counted for in the Apex system. In this case, I much prefer how they're doing Risen elders to 4U Apexes, since in the latter's case, it was just kind of the same monster, but you needed to have an item effect to effectively damage them at all. Here it's just a tougher fight with new moves and a more advanced AI. AND it comes with their own darn armor set, which I wholly appreciate for sure.
Sunbreak's been doing subspecies pretty well. My only real complaint is the high ass number of fire variants. I could understand magmadron and orangeten, but pyredaki and flaming espinas? It's just more fire of what's already fire! That said, even flaming espinas has the benefit of being an old returning mon, if this is a depiction of Frontier's orange espinas...
Either way, I am wholly looking forward to see what we're seeing next for Risen elders. Chammy's new skills were already a hoot and a half, so who knows what Teo and Kush will add to the mix. And hell, maybe even Valstrax near the end of it all.
i personally don't mind the amount of fire monsters. other than that, i agree.
a yamcha drag in the year of our lord 2022?? or is it 2008 again and I haven't noticed
What I like most about Risen Chameleos is he doesn’t do that weak sounding groans. He is more quiet but sounds more menacing.
Definitely agree, Violet mizu is definitely one of the best fights in the game by far
I can’t wait to see fan made variants deviations and subspecies’s like VALORGOD VALSTRAX
0:36 talks about how old monsters were just a reskin with a few new moves and proceeds to show seething bazel which is a reskin with a couple new moves lmaoo
I was actually really happy about Risen Chameleos, always loved him so it was nice to see him get some love
To add to the risen, yes there will be more risen monsters, they are their own thing and we have found proof of not just kushala and teo but also shagaru AND Valstrax to have risen forms and the most terrifying one is risen valstrax, thats really terrifying to imagine what he would become
Literally subbed due to your "monster energy" joke.
Perhaps, it would have been better if they used Hardcore Flaming Espinas as the basis for the new model, instead of the original Flaming.
Yes that would’ve been better
Also are we only getting the Big 3 when it comes to Risen or can we expect Shagaru and Malzeno
Risen shagaru magala highly like since gore magala can be afflicted, if it survives it becomes a risen shagaru magala if it don't it either dies or becomes a chaotic gore magala
@@jamiehughes5573 If we do get that, I just know it will be the coolest fight in the game!
I already liked bazel/seething bazel in world/iceborne.
Normal bazel in rise was kinda underwhelming, but oh my god did they improve seething bazel in sunbreak. Legit one of my favourite monsters.
You got juicy hitzones, so it feels good to hit hin, but at the same time his attacks are that much more flashy and dangerous. My precious explosion king
you know what variety ailment they should add, paralysis there is literally only one monster that gives weapons that deal paral, and its bloody volvidon
Biggest complaint about Mizutsune I have is making it anything else instead of Water. Water is an underrepresented element already as it is. Or as you said it Thunder too.
Kinda sad that Deviants aren't in the game as while there is no Element change I really love the additions of their movesets and that they are the same mosnters but brought to the absolute extreme of their respective Element
Bro deviants should come back I want them so badly
This happened to my buddy Eri- oh wait it's actually him!
0:07 I'm sorry but are those Crab Claw Dual Blades?!
ARE YOU TELLING ME THAT WAS A THING?!
Yep, the Daimyo Dual Blades.
Why is your channel icon a very menacing Baserios
I’m associated with rocks for some folks so I thought Basarios would be a good icon for now
Monster energy is my jam so you have my blessing for the joke hahaha
have you played generations ultimate / xx
Never finished but yea I have
11:09 i agree
@5:17 Scarlet Rot into MH would be stage 3 venom maybe. XD
imagine if risen narwa drops out of nowhere with STORMSOUL DECORATIONS
Honestly hope we get another ibushi since we already have 2 narwas
I second this
@@Gorguinni who wouldn't want 20+ more skils on every set?
@@Gorguinni given how horrifyingly overpowered that would be; I suspect that A) it will be a tier 3 deco or higher and B) it will come in the very last title update
@@Gorguinni Still waiting for that Allfather Ibushi, Capcom. Also, Master Rank Ibushi is pain
I mean the raths are the series mascot like it or not they're gonna be in the game
i mean, Frontier did that even before the third generation of the mainline... But i know what you mean, and i agree.
You could say they are...
.....On fire.
Dam you have not seen frontier sub monsters look them up they are insane...
I have a bit and what we’re getting is minuscule in comparison
Base Espinas also has the hip check, literally everyone I know who plays the game thought it was new to Flaming Espinas
Edit: is the misspelling on purpose?
Yeah, though Flaming Espinas’ hipcheck has a bigger windup and it has massive reach
@@alexedwards5152 They have the same distance and reach hip check
Nexto variants hyper:
Teostra Kushala and Valstrax elder dragons arisen
Maybe next title update we won't get only fire monsters and also every monsters gets aura topples.
Subspecies haven't been just palette swaps since like, 1st or 2nd gen
Old Gen Subspecies barely had any changes. An example being Green Nargacuga. It only had an upgraded tail attack which normal Narga has now. I guess they did more damage and had more health, I guess? I’d like you to also describe the major differences between Yian Kut-Ku and Blue Yian Kut-Ku, or Plesioth and Green Plesioth.
@@definitelynotjayferno But you could also point to Abyssal Lagiacrus, Jade Barroth, Purple Ludroth, Sand Barioth, Baleful Gigginox, Glacial Agnaktor, or Stygian Zinogre.
Those are all gen 3 btw, I didn't even list any from gen 4.
Edit: Also, every single one you listed besides Green Narga were from gen 1 - one of the gens I specifically mentioned having issues with palette swaps. My whole point is gen 3 onwards doesn't have that problem.
@@CaptainEffort I was confused by the way the comment was worded. You said since the first or second gen, which made me think you meant it started there. That is my bad.
@@definitelynotjayferno Nah that's my bad, should've made that clearer.
@@CaptainEffort It’s fine, but now that I get what you’re saying I completely agree! Gen 3 is really where the good stuff came in. I can’t list any since you got basically all of them so I’ll move to Gen 4. I think a few good examples are Tigerstripe Zamtrios, Tidal Najarala, and Oroshi Kirin just to name a few. Different elements and design from the base form by a lot, and you can tell that they are their own unique monsters
I'd like to see more insect monster's like a centipede, preying mantis, or a moth.
Centipede would be sick
I want a malzeno varient
Well, uh, we got it
What do you think about it now that it's out
It is a step in the right direction it should still be improved
Canonizing Thunderbubble would've been far more diverse than another Fire monster.
9:55 to me, that's a ridiculous question.
why introduce a new mechanic if it's only applicable to just one monster?
of course we'll get Risen Teo and Kush!
11:13 i have a bone to pick withthat one. but i'd rather keep quiet.
14:37 alright then.
keep in mind that everything i'll say is just *my opinion.*
*TU1*
*when it was announced:* the Metal Raths AND Lucent Narga are back!? noice!!
we have decent variants in the game!
yes, we have Furious and Scorned in base Sunbreak; but i personally couldn't care less about them. yes, we also got Seething Bazel in TU1; but like with Furious and Scorned, he's got nothing on the Metal Raths.
*when i played it:* DAMN they were good! and (quotes Cotton from the Espinas video despite never having fought Lucent but knows that others have and hold him dear) "look how they bolstered my boy"!
*TU2*
*when it was announced:* Espinas' subspecies is here, and it has a name!! holy $#1t!
oh, the Mizutsune variant's nothing like i thought it'd look like. nice. oh, and its fight is just as awesome as Flaming Espinas.
"Risen Chameleos"... is that a variant? (learns that he's not) oh. OH! this is fantastic!
*when i played it:* best fights so far! and i'm confident we'll get Risen Teo and Kush.
We’ll also likely get Risen Shagaru at some point, since the Affliction is stronger than the Frenzy (this is also shown by Gore being Afflicted).
@@definitelynotjayferno i know we will. but i speak of the next title update; there'll be more title updates in 2023, one of them will have Risen Shagaru.
@@jacktheomnithere2127 Ah, yeah. Next update is almost 100% Risen Kushala if they go in the same order as you fight them in High Rank. Chameleos, Kushala, Teostra. Then maybe Shagaru after that because he comes after those three in Sunbreak.
"getting better since Icebourne" nah since before Icebourne. World trying to get the credit for everything like things like Tigerstripe Zamatrios didnt exist completely changing up the fight in 4U
You’re completely right. I should’ve said that the fights were getting better in world, at least for me I noticed a spike in improvement
I prefer violet mizutsune over flaming espinas and risen chameleos.
I personally don't like sub species. They are pretty much taking over spots in the roster that should be for new monsters in my opinion. That was the thing I liked most about Base Rise, no subspecies. Then Sunbreak came and ruined it. None of the new subspecies or variants are interesting to me.
Also, the subspecies are in my opinion just a more boring fight than the original monster. The only subspecies I actually like is Fulgur Anjanath since I already loved the base monster, just thought that fire is a pretty boring element. And Fulgur just looks even cooler and I love his charged state.
Violet mizitsune is a rare species not a sub
I know, Subspecies was the umbrella term for this vid
Rare species are just rare subspecies
Rare species are still sub species
For Gorguinni i know i posted this before that was mentioned. Everyone else no they are different, like fruits and vegetables. Yes they are both plants but they are different uses.
@@revracentertainment3004 no like they are literally called “rare subspecies” just most of the time it’s shortened to just “rare species”
I mean sure but nothing beats PURPLE GYPCEROS best monster ever made
I have to disagree at least partly. I do think Iceborne had some of the most unique subspecies and variants to date with gems like Coral Pukie-Pukie, Acidic Glavenus, Ruiner Nergigante ect. But a lot of the Sunbreak subspecies are just the same monster but swap the elements and add more explosions. Pyre Rakna Kadaki is the only exception since it combines its web and fire in a unique way. But look at Aurora Somnacanth. They just gave it some random ice explosions it generates spontaneously out of nowhere and a generic ice laser. Magma Almudron gets "lava mud" but it mostly behaves the same way we've seen before with a few new moves. Flaming Espinas is probably the worst where it just gives his fireballs Michael Bay effects, steels a couple more moves from other monsters like Bloodbath's spin move, and oh yeah they gave it a nuke because we haven't seen that before. And with Violet Mizu? Again more explosions. The homing projectiles have been done before with Stygian so they don't really feel special only with Stygian's case they actually made sense because his projectiles are living organisms. How do Mizu's bubbles track you are they like sentient or something? Oh yeah and they also gave it a nuke because apparently all high tier fire monsters need one now.
Facts. But i disagree with flaming espinas, he was a pretty cool frontier monster in rise.
The Sunspecies in Base Sunbreak was pretty weak. Aurora Soman, Magmadron are lazy and boring. Simply elemental changes. Blast monkey was alright. I wish they'd work on the appearance a bit as well. Weapons and armors being just a simple recolor is pure laziness.
Both two being simply elemental changes is complete bullshit, expecially with Magmadron, and makes me dubt that you actually fought them at all or if you say it just because you hate them for other reasons.
Also with weapons and armor they are recolors looking wise because the stats, skills etc is what actually matters.
The actual "issue" is that out of 4 brand new subspecies, 3 are fire/blast
Since Iceborne only? No love for the P3rd, 3U and 4U subspecies? I think your bad opinion on the old subspecies was mostly because of the first-gen subspecies, which were all crap. But Capcom began improving since then IMO
No you’re right but subspecies did improve greatly in world too
Yeah nah. When every sub is a fire element that doesn't mean they're evolutions whatsoever. Improved move sets doesnt translate to a good monster. Dunno about you, but subs were fun when they werent all some form of FIRE. Seething bazel, fire. Metal raths, fire. Espinas sub, fire. Violet Mizu, fire. We've only got 1 original monster sub because Risen is just Apex with a different title.
I rather have subspecies reskin rather than add monster i dont like...for example they add arzuros , volvidon and lagombi...those are boring mfs...should add congalala , and subspecies and blangonga and it's subspecies....
i think they should have made violet mizu blast instead
I would love a dragon or thunder version personally
Violet Mizu is super cool. Flaming Espinas was pretty lame to me, though.
actually violet is a rare species 🤓
I'm pretty sure Violet Mizu is a variant
Rare species. It doesn't fit the variant category in any way
Just dodge.
Isnt getting that good, I just remmember Raging Brachydios and i can tell in MHW it was realy better.
I just wished they dropped more of them at a single Title Update imo 😔
Or at least dropped Acidic Glav, that thing is just cool af. Imagine a unique quirky sharpness-based build lmao
Honestly I’m fine with how many they add at a time. In World it was usually one monster per update.
Eh idk subspecies don't need to just be elemental changes and over the top blasts i feel as tho vilot mizutsune was pretty bad as a rare its just "hehe purp fire bubbles go pop" for no reason why it needs this ability other than just to fight the hunters. Subspecies exists because of adaption not to be a better challenge an example of a good subspecies would fulgur anja because instead of it shooting thunder beam it shoots thunder mucus others great subs would be sand barioth or brute tigrex. Good subspecies are we the devs spend time think on how to turn an interesting idea for a monster into a fight rather than just "hehe ice rathalos" and more of something like ground based rathalos. Also subspecies don't have to be a strong version of the monster if they want more early game monster make a weaker subspecies but with actually interesting abilities.
"ground based rathalos"
So... Rathian?
@@xenomorphoverlord maybe a subspecies were the rathalos and rathian roles are reversed or a cave rath
@@ivangreat4885 we dont need any more rathalos's, and Violet mizu is a rare species not a Subspecies, rare species are always crazy amped up versions of the original while Subspecies are mostly lazy rehashes with a few exceptions
@@Zephyr-lp2mi the rathalos was just an example and I know rare species can be crazier but its arguably more lazy to give rare species species explosions and flashing colors rather than thinking of a idea for a rare species that not just explosions. A rare can be cool without light and colors i bet anyone can think of a better mizutsune rare species.
@@ivangreat4885 well would you prefer a reskin like azure rath, green narg, ebony odo in which people will bitch about them being boring and arguably worse than the original? And this is MH we have a monster that pilots a fing metal gear and a monkey that goes super saiyan, these extreme/over the top monsters aren't a new concept and end up being the better fights in the franchise
Aurora somnacanth is the only real stinker when it comes to subspecies in this game for me
Orange bishaten for me
@@Gorguinni BoB is at least not a pushover like Regular Bishaten imo
Considering how they aren't introducing anything new with the subspecies, they should be. Subspecies are mostly copy pasted monsters with a new gimik here and there, so the least they can do is do more than "better". Especially now that they've started injecting microtransactions in the game. Lazy spinoff devs
Oh yeah, because the main team does every monster completly unoque and is just the Portable that does monster variations like subspecies lol. Copy paste my ass, and the main team tecnically added microtransations with MH World so STUFU. You just complain for the sake of it
I didn't enjoy a minute of rise so I didn't bother with sunbreak. Didn't even get to the update 3.0, bailed before the elders
Are you serious ? Flame espinas IS just a copy.from frontièr , thunder explorer mitsu IS better than violet and risen cameltoes IS not even a treat !!!
Cope, and flaming isnt a copy its the same monster given a name finally
