    I'm having to replace some aluminum on my son's house. Since we can only get white, I'll have to paint it. Painted my friends 50s home's aluminum. Used tsp for etching. Been 13 years and still looks good.

    Good to know as I was bout to find an installer thinking this would be a way to never have to paint those areas ever. Now I'm thinking just get a really good quality paint that will last just as long if not longer than 20-years. :(

      We bought a home that has aluminum siding that has been previously been painted by the previous owners and several areas are bubbling. Suggesting as to why and how to prep for repaint

    • @TribblePaintingCompany
      @TribblePaintingCompany  3 года назад

      @@youknow1334 Bubbling paint is never good. This could be caused by a few things, but the issue is the paint doesn't seem to be bonding to the surface of the siding. I think the reasons could of been something like parts of the siding not being fully cleaned or in someway not ready for the paint to dry and bond to the surface. This sort of problem is underneath the paint layer(s) and cannot be solved entirely unless the previous coat is removed. We aren't suggesting this. The likely best course for you is to treat the isolated areas on a yearly basis. Scrape the bubbled areas, clean the surface underneath and touch up those spots with matching paint.

    Our house has a light peachy color aluminum siding - very old. Do we have to repaint it a light color, or, can we paint it a darker color? Great video!

    • @TribblePaintingCompany
      @TribblePaintingCompany  2 года назад +2

      Aluminum siding is very resilient and should take coats of paint just fine. There shouldn't be many issues with light/dark colors on the aluminum since it's not prone to warping like a vinyl siding could. Just make sure to get a good wash and let it dry before you paint it!

    Thanks for your great video. What is a good temperature to spray the paint on aluminum siding? We are in Michigan right now and it's averaging about 45° in the daytime. Coming up here soon it's going to be in the mid 50s to low 60's. Also with spray painting do you need to do a second coat after the first coat dries and if so how long do you need to wait in between?

    • @TribblePaintingCompany
      @TribblePaintingCompany  6 месяцев назад

      Great question. We look for warm weather during painting AND during the drying process - 60 degrees and above is good, but the 50-60 range can depend on many things, mainly moisture levels and current temps for dry times.

    What is TSP, I’m getting ready to paint my aluminum siding and I want to make sure I get the aluminum clean to avoid bubbling!?

    • @TribblePaintingCompany
      @TribblePaintingCompany  Год назад +1

      Trisodium phosphate, commonly called TSP, is a packaged, blended cleaning product consisting of 75 to 80 percent trisodium phosphate and 20 to 25 percent sodium carbonate.
      TSP is typically inexpensive and comes in the form of an odorless dry powder that must be thoroughly mixed into hot water to form a mostly clear solution, though slightly cloudy. Applied to surfaces with sponges or scrub brushes, TSP is an effective, heavy-duty cleaner for problem areas around the house that may be sooty, greasy, or dirty, such as walls or cabinets in need of painting.

    What is the optimal outdoor temperature range to paint aluminum siding? I don't know how the paint will react to cold or hot weather.

    • @TribblePaintingCompany
      @TribblePaintingCompany  Год назад +1

      Hello! The ideal is 72 degrees Fahrenheit, with some sun, and light breeze, and no humidity. However, as long as it's between 50 and 95 degrees you can paint exteriors. You want to make sure the surface temperature is in that range.

    What kind of caulk do you use on aluminum siding?

  • @alisagreer2422
    @alisagreer2422 3 года назад

    Question: 100% acrylic painting my is what you said to paint aluminum with but I keep finding while I’m researching people saying to prime first with oil based primer then final paint with 100% acrylic . The reason they are saying is because of the aluminum having a negative chemical reaction to the latex. Have you heard this before? Please explain and is it ok to just paint without priming?

    • @TribblePaintingCompany
      @TribblePaintingCompany  3 года назад +4

      Hi Alisa! Not all paints are made for metal application. Cleaning the oxidation off the siding is the most important part. Bonding the paint to the siding is the challenge here and if there is bare metal exposed, you should prime it. An acrylic primer can have ammonia and will react with the aluminum which many people are wary about. You can always check with a rep at your local paint store for specific product questions for aluminum application so you don't goof up and get the wrong type. Power washing is the way to go to get all that 'chalk' off the sides.

      Hey JV! We don't normally prime aluminum siding, unless requested by our clients. You can certainly prime this type of siding to get some added protection for your home. In this particular video, we were not tasked with priming this clients home!

    • @TribblePaintingCompany
      @TribblePaintingCompany  5 месяцев назад

      That’s usually due to it being the clients choice. All brands of paint have products made for aluminum, so the choice is really up to which product line do you like/trust the most. We always recommend Benjamin Moore or Sherwin Williams.

    • @TribblePaintingCompany

      good question, and also a tough one to answer. Any dark color will absorb light and the darker you go the more heat and sunlight it can soak in. I'm not sure on the specifics of key factors like insulation or what exactly the aluminum siding covers, so I'm not sure on how to give you a honest answer other than..it depends.

    • @TribblePaintingCompany

      Hey Kevin, great question. It all really depends on the project you want to knock out. Things like viscosity of the paint can be a factor, and you'll need to make sure it can pump the selected paint. If you have something smaller in mind like a wall or two, maybe a whole exterior, then you'll want something that can move with you as you start to cover. We try to stay away from telling our viewers to only buy this brand over the others, but I feel confident in the Graco and more specifically the 395 would be able to handle some serious projects. Please let me know if you have any more questions!

    Then coated entire home with a waterbase metal primer sealer then 2 coats of a waterbase 100% acrylic exterior paint
