    Awesome routine and not surprising to hear this guy was unanimously voted Magician of the Year. It's very easy to watch a performance like this on RUclips and look for moves and subtleties with the benefit of replay, but you have to keep it in context. As a spectator at the live performance, you'd never notice any of it and you'd still be wondering how he did one thing whilst he was revealing anther. This is true showmanship. Very well done sir.

    Great seeing this routine again, it popped up in my recommendations. James took my watch and materialised a pot of jam, years ago. He is so bloody quick with his moves and words. Brilliant.....

    I do a bit of card magic but none of this spotless behind the shoulder/watch stuff. Watching this has given me so many ideas it's really inspirational. It's cool to see what can be achieved with hard work and talent. I think seeing a 'normal' looking guy around my age doing it is the biggest attraction- Thank you for posting it!

    This is my kind of magic! I'm not really into fancy bullshit like making elephants appear and all that other crap. Close up magic shows the most talent.
    All these people saying "I know how he does it" or "I saw him do this or that", so what? We all KNOW it's not real. Just because I know how something is done doesn't mean that I have the skills necessary to do it. I know how singers sing, but I'm still shit at it.
    This guy's speed and misdirection skills are amazing.

      If most of the spectators can see how he did it, it's not a good magic show, that's so what.

    • @error.418
      @error.418 9 лет назад +1

      mychannel
      With close-up magic, it's not about the other spectators. It's all about fooling the people right in front of you in a way that's entertaining to the rest of the crowd. One way to entertain the crowd is to make fools of the people near you, and if it's obvious how you did it then the rest of the crowd gets to feel like they know something the fools near you don't. It's part of the show.

    • @mychannel594

      ***** That's awful. Sounds even worse than regular magic shows.

    This is a great video. James Brown is really showing that magic is indeed a Brain Game. This far more entertaining than the usual magic tricks that we get to see form most other magicians, Brilliant indeed.

    This guy is a master of misdirection. He has a winning personality too which really helps as it allows the spectator to enjoy being misdirected in a non-challenging manner. They know that it's not real magic but he plays with their expectations and constantly thwarts them in an entertaining way so it's fun for them. Anyone who watches this who says they know how it's done is completely missing the point. If they were there in person, they'd be just a fooled by James and would probably also enjoy it as much as his spectators do here. Fantastic stuff!

    I really enjoyed that. The opener was snappy and fun. Great use of the vanishing deck and the middle was interesting and involved... Taking it beyond the obvious straight up application. The closer echoed the opening creating a very nice 'bookends' style framing to the routine.
    Very cool, I can see why you won.

    Magic doesn't have to be a hidden secret trick only known to the intitiates.
    I remember Jimmy Page, during a concert in the '70s, slapping his Les Paul with a bow : "Bang!" Then, in an upward fashion, slamming the bow in mid-air to a beam of light : "Bang!" again... :O))
    We were just amazed. Then, he changed his rythm slightly so we all can see that this was just a slap-back echo effect. The whole room was pleased at this amusing trickery on his part.
    Surprise...
    This was magic too.

    Seriously people, it's amazing sleight of hand but of course if you can stop, rewind and pause the video it's going to be "obvious" what he did. The fact that you HAVE to stop, rewind and pause is what makes the magic so damn impressive. Oh, and I'm totalling stealing the move at around 4:00

  • @birlibis2juggler
    @birlibis2juggler 13 лет назад

    Well I'm in love with watch stealing and I could tell from the very beginning that he was scouting for someone with an "easy" watch. Lovely performance pure sleight of hand and misdirection! Liked it a lot

  • @magiccards
    @magiccards 9 лет назад +2

    Magics not about making people look like fools. Not at all, it's entertainment, presentation, mystery, laughter, and technique. Making someone look like a fool is never s good idea in a performance. The audience has the ability to make it way harder on you then you on them. NO ONE likes to be made a fool of. So why not have everyone on your side :-)

    • @spencerhalpin8919
      @spencerhalpin8919 9 лет назад

      I agree completely, the main reason behind hecklers is because they don't want to be made a fool of by the stereotypical magician. Because of this famous idea of the typical magician, it is hard to win the hecklers over with the entertainment part of the trick.

    I think the fact that he does not wear a long sleeved coat etc just adds to his performance, and shows he has nothing hiding up his sleeves, inside jacket pockets etc
    Makes it more impressive, in my opinion at least

  • @TheBlazeJp

    i have personally met this magician, and he is absolutely amazing, i actually saw him turn two normal playing cards signed by two people at a wedding into one playing card with the signatures on both side of one card with two faces, by far the bbest magician i have ever seen, from video i can see how he does his things as he is incredibly fast with his slight of hand, but there are some tricks ive seen up close in real life that still keep me puzzled... 5/5

  • @sevencircles1638

    Great stuff, I really loved how he handled the watch in particular. He was really lucky that they guy didn´t move his shoulder so the watch and even more the coin fell to the floor. I do think they noticed that he had the deck in his lap he was a bit sloppy when he did that.

    I can figure out a lot of this, but he is good at it, example: at 2:38, he place the watch on zach's shoulder while creating a distraction asking for him to raise his arm higher, which of course if u pay close attention, he steals the watch just moments before
