Same thing happened to me, the second boss I fought in the DLC was Rellana, I must have gone the wrong way or something, but yeah it wasn't easy so early on in the game lol.
From Software enemy design is ALWAYS top tier

Me and my friend did the same thing ended up fighting Romina and Bayle before the lion and hippo.
you can’t get to Romina without fighting the hippo tho?

@@alfredschildish no you don't, you can either take tp(i think) or just go through the back gate of shadow keep through the church district which was what i did cus i could not be bothered to fight hippo
