I never thought I would see such a player in my lifetime. I have to be thankful to see Ohtani.
And what is surprising is that his personality is also perfect. He was not interested in money at all and gave all the money he earned from the Home Run Derby to his staff.

In my opinion, Shohei Ohtani has only been in the major leagues for a few years but he is the best player in the history of baseball. Of course, they are players that are more accomplished than him, but just pure baseball talent, he is the best ever. The game has never seen someone that is both an all star worthy pitcher AND an all star worthy batter. There is simply no one like him in any sport right now.

This was a double header, which means its actually two games back to back. He threw the shutout in the 1st game, and hit the 2 home runs in the 2nd. That’s another reason why his performance is especially impressive. Daz, you can call them the Angels or the Halos, but never the A’s. 😂
No one is bigger that Ohtani, because no one can do what he’s doing as a two way player. He’s a unicorn. And he is very kind and humble. He sometimes apologizes for getting people out. He’s just sweet. 😊

His total WAR is 7.1. Second place is 5. He's 80 points ahead of second in OPS. He lost out on MVP last year when Judge hit 62 homers. Shohei is on pace for 60 - be crazy if he hit 63, was 16-8 with an era of about 3.25 and won MVP. He's the clear best hittier in baseball (excluding injured players from the argument), and is a top 15 pitcher. Top 15 is being conservative, and there's 32? teams, so that makes him an ace, the best pitcher on more than half the teams (oversimplified), and since he's also the best hitter on EVERY team, he's the best pitcher AND hitter on more than half the teams. Phew!.

If you take away his record against the Astros, his pitching numbers look a lot better. Oh, and the next day dude hits another homerun in his next at bat. If I'm the opposing manager I'm walking him every time unless it walks in the game winning run. At least for a week or two to cool him off.
Bases loaded, we're up one run in the bottom of the 9th.... I walk him to tie the game. Better to face Ward in a tie game than give up a grand slam. I don't know if I do that when Mike Trout comes back.... but that's what I'd do today.

Complete game shutouts where a pitcher stays in the game whole time are fairly uncommon. Usually you'd want to bring in relief pitchers so your starting pitcher can rest his arm. They probably kept him in the game just so that he could have the distinction of pitching his first complete shutout game. Shoehei has to be in the discussion as the best baseball player ever, and probably best athlete in the world. Only others in contention would be Mbappe, Jokic, Jon Rahm, Alcaraz and maybe McDavid. Being a pitcher and a hitter is like playing 2 completely different sports, and he's dominant at both. The only two way player (A player that is a pitcher and a great hitter) in that realm is the legendary Babe Ruth way back in the early 1900s just to give you an idea of how rare it is to see this.

  • @cenayankeesking234

He had 3 walks that game so he would have had a no hitter if he didn't give up that hit not a perfect game. Also he was removed from the second game after his second homer because he was cramping up. It was only the 4th inning so he could have definitely done a lot more damage if he stayed in. Hes easily the best baseball player of all time and arguably the best athlete of all time

It USED to be common for pitchers to pitch a complete nine innings. There was even a pitcher who was STRUCK BY LIGHTNING and still finished the game.
Now, however, teams treat their pitchers with kid gloves. They're terrified that one of them will get hurt. Studies have shown, however, that this actually makes them MORE injury prone.

MLB teams often play a day game on "get away day" or "travel day" which is the last game of a 2-3-4 game series between two teams, where one or both travel directly after the game to a new city to start a new series. For example, if my team, the New York Mets were playing the St. Louis Cardinals at home on a Wednesday and they were flying out to Los Angeles to start another series, the game would be in the afternoon so they could board a plane in the evening and head 3000 miles west. Usually, but not always, they would have the next day, Thursday, off and open a series with the Dodgers on Friday

It’s a shame that the Angels are subpar & because of that have smaller crowds. Ohtani & Trout still attract fans & I think that why the Angels aren’t trading Ohtani this season. Tigers are in a rebuilding stage & that’s why it was empty. Right now is probably the best time to start watching MLB because numerous teams are fighting for a playoff spot! Large crowds (mainly for teams in contention) & every game literally counts!!

As great a hitting/pitching performance Shohei had in the DH, there was one that was even better. On June 23, 1971, Rick Wise , a pitcher for the Philadelphia Phillies, pitched a no-hitter and hit 2 homeruns in the same game against the Cincinnati Reds.

    • @DoubleDown310

The difference is, Rick Wise was not seen as a slugger. No one pitched around, or intentionally walked him like pitchers do to Ohtani. Granted, Rick Wise definitely had the better game, than Ohtani. However, people expect Ohtani to do this, whereas someone like Wise, there was no expectation. Ohtani is a special breed.
