  • What to do when a person get epilepsy?
Epilepsy is an excess activity of the nerves in the brain, which in turn makes the body move rapidly.
Usually an epileptic episode gradually reduces in a few minutes. As the patient has no control over their body, we needn't do anything in particular to them other than helping them from harm. Some may have a tendency to vomit, at that time lay them sideways so that the vomit doesn't choke them.
Some mistakes we have to avoid :
NEVER give any medicine to the patient during an episode., as this can choke them. NEVER give them any water either.
Giving them a keys or a piece of iron wouldn't help them. This is only a superstition/myth.
ALWAYS make sure they are not harming themselves as they cannot control their body at this time.
A post ictal phase, where the patient recovers from the seizure, can last up to an hour. During this time the patient may experience fatigue, weakness in the body, inability to speak properly, etc. During this time the bystander must allow the patient to recover at their own time and not disturb them. If needed take them to a hospital.
