- I had a Sony MHC-MG110 come in that the CD player would not play and was just squealing. It just needed a couple of belts replaced in the CD as well as the Cassette mechanisms.

Wow, I remember the days where I would sit and name each CD slot! Only to have to go through the same process a month later when I changed out CDs. I wish I still had my old unit. Awesome repair video! Well done!
Of all the vids I've seen, I think some of the close up are the best I've seen yet. You can really see in detail how well a job you're doing. I think the only thing I'd be doing differently aside from the repairs is a quick cleaning up of everything including the exteriors of the units so they look their best. Another good job in the can!
best tech on youtube for sure, you have a great teaching way about you
HOLY CRAP!!!! Something ate all the components. Empty boards. Yikes.
m norcal le meilleur technicien des tv que jai vu sur internet mais cest domage pas des vedeos pour tv on cest pas prq mais nous attendons toujour des vedeos pour tv nouvelles generation
I don't miss spending 3 hours tearing it down and putting back together just for a few belts....
Ahh, the good ol days.
Nice job Steve.😀
Same here. My question is why spend the time on something like that. It is just not worth it. I do appreciate NorCal posting these so that people can see what a pain they are to work on.
@@neutrodyne ....back 20 yrs ago,we made a living doing these type of repairs, they didn't always take 3 hours, but, today if we repair something like this it's simply as a hobby or restoration process per sae.... the stuff we wouldn't fix 20-30 yrs ago, nowadays its become a restorative endeavor and it's now a labor of love.
Just think, in 20 yrs the electronics we hold as top notch will become restoration projects.
I can only imagine what the next 20 years will hold....I only hope it will be a positive step forward and not a devalued technology.
Thanks 👍
@@frankpitochelli6786 I know what you are saying I'm retired mow But I spent 45 years in the electronics repair. My how things have changed.
Thanks, NorCal! Nice work.

Hey man I'm staying at an old cabin with this player. Its in great condition and everything works, but im.trying to figure out if I can play music from my phone. Got an audio cord, but no aux input on the player. I know nothing NOTHING about tech, but what I'm thinking is I'll have to get a special cord for aux and the red and white "video in" then switch to "game" option....am I anywhere close. And if so how the actual hell do I Google the right terms? Do they even make/sell special aux cords????
Im looking for a Sony MHC-v40 belts kit, is that available online?
I have a question, I own an Emerson DA-4Head and when I put the tape in, it ejects it about 5-10 seconds after it's being played. It's not eating the tape and I can momentarily fast forward and reverse it but it shuts itself off as well, do you have any idea what the issue could be?
Reel rotation detection, it thinks the tape is not being taken up. See my latest video had a similar problem. ruclips.net/video/5IO0hepAfzo/видео.html
@@norcal715 Thank you so much, it works fine now, my dad cried seeing mom on the day of my brother's birth. We've been watching some old videos from 1980's to 1999. Its heartwarming.
I have the exact problem and model on my Sony 60 CD player. Where can I bring it to do what you just did in this video?
Send me an email norcal715videos@gmail.com
Back 20 years or so I use to listen to Enya.... Relaxing music........ Are you using pure acetone ????? Keep the vids coming Mon Ami.....
I fixed the CD belts and that works fine. However, now the cassette player won’t work. It says there’s no tape when there is a tape inserted, both the a and b sides. Any suggestions for fixing this? I can’t figure it out. 😐
Check the tape detect switches for oxidized contacts.
@@norcal715 What does the tape detect switch look like and where is it?
I have a Sony MHC-GS200 that is doing the exact same thing. I'd prefer not to trash this unit... it's a great way to make use of all my old CDs and provide some tunes for cookouts.
Do you have an email or website to see if it's worth it to ship this to you to have the services in this video performed?
norcal715videos@gmail.com As of now I am over 10 weeks out to look at a new unit. I have a regular full time job and this is just my hobby.
So nice repair.. Sir i have this model, my issue at the present is, its not powering ON when i plugged it on the power source! I was thinking maybe its the fuse? But i don't know how to access the fuse and where that possibly seats in.. Can u help me on that sir? Thanks!👍🙏
Do you have any display at all or is all blank?
@@norcal715 No display sir!
Where can you get the belts? Also I read someplace you could use rubber band instead, do you think that would work?
A rubber band will do in a pinch as long as it is not in a speed sensitive situation, like a capstan belt on a cassette deck. They are rough cut and the wow and flutter will be terrible. Rubber bands do not have the life of a normal rubber belt too. 1 to 2 years and it will be time for another replacement.
I have one of these and the red light turns on but when I try to power on, nothing happens. What could it be??
The standby light is powered from the standby supply. If it wont power on then I would suspect the main supply is not starting or has a failed component that damaged it. Do you hear a relay click when you press the power button?
I own an around 1994 Sony MCH-4800 Stereo Mini System and it shows the same issues of the one in this video, but I am not going to repair it, as I do not use the CD player or the cassette player any more, I just use its amplifier and speakers, and also I do not have the spare belts.
I have been working on Sony CFD-510. It needs a new optical pickup for the CD player and belts for the cassette. Once the parts come I can get it fixed.
All those compact systems were annoying to work on, unless it was the cd player if on top ;)
Here because I have this exact model with this exact problem. Was hoping it'd be a quick fix but it looks like I've got my work cut out for me.
Where did you get your belts?
I have many "new old stock" belts, plus I order various belt assortments from china.
kss213a?
Yes but the mechs on these are not compatible with the generic ones you can buy as the spindle is magnetic. The spindles (on all Sony 60+ disc players) also have an unfortunate habit of falling apart, rendering them beyond economical repair as you can't get the replacements.
