Olaplex and Protein are two completely different treatments, the comparison isn’t equal in terms of what each are meant to do to hair. Olaplex is a bond builder, which helps strengthen whats in your hair cuticle to fuse proteins in the hair together. Protein treatments replenish lost protein and that’s it. You should do both, but you can use Olaplex No.3 more often. It however is NOT a conditioning treatment, you’re supposed to shampoo it out of your hair after treatment. Protein however should not be done too often as a protein build up causes hair to become hard and at risk for even more breakage, what you’re trying to avoid initially when choosing a protein treatment. For maximum benefit of a protein treatment you shouldn’t use it more than the recommendation for dyeing your hair, minimum 4-6 weeks between protein treatments.
Choosing one over the other (building bonds with Olaplex OR replenishing lost protein with a protein treatment) is leaving you with one problem and only addressing the other. For maximum benefit you should use both just at different times for the optimum health and strength of your hair.

NativeNYerChicHK This is the comment I've been looking for for DAYS! Thank you for addressing this because I have both Olaplex and Aphogee and was wondering if these could be used at the same time. Now I know to NOT use Olaplex on the day I do an Aphogee treatment. Thanks so much for sharing!

NativeNYerChicHK THANK you 4 the detailed explanation. It is very useful information! 😘
      1. If your hair needs protein, is it counterproductive to do Olaplex 3 BEFORE a protein treatment?
      2. Is it beneficial or harmful to do a protein treatment then immediately AFTER do an Olapex 3 treatment? If harmful, how long should one wait to do an Olapex treatment after a protein treatment?
Really appreciate you adding your expertise! 😍

      elle hub You’re welcome!!
      1. Chances are if you need protein added back then your bonds are damaged too, so you can do either or first, there doesn’t need to be one before the other. Myself, when I started this “get my hair healthy” process I had begun by stripping out all of my old hair dye, probably 10 years worth, my hair is long. I did the protein filler first with my first re-dye application, then I went in with the Olaplex stand alone treatment about 2 weeks later. Now I dye about every 6 weeks (every other time using Protein so about every 12 wks) and in between I use the Olaplex stand alone treatment monthly. This schedule works really well for my hair.
      2. I wouldn’t do both on the same day, you want to see how your hair reacts to each product. Give it at least a week or two. Also, with a protein treatment you don’t quite wash it out the same way you need to for the Olaplex treatment. I use the Colorful Brand Neutral Protein Filler when I dye my hair as it also helps to distribute hair dye down the strands more evenly because where there is damage/breakage your hair soaks up hair dye faster, filling up the holes left by depleted lost proteins, making these areas much darker than the healthy new growth near the roots. So the protein filler actually fills a lot of the damage and then the dye can work more uniformly down each strand of hair. And then about three weeks later I do an Olaplex treatment, in between when I dye my hair, which is about every 6 weeks or so. But I don’t always use the Protein filler, I see how my hair feels. If you use protein fillers too much or too often it causes your hair to become hard and brittle, prone to more breakage. So now for maintenance, if I’m just touching up my roots and not really running the dye down the strands then I skip the Protein treatment. I’d say on average I do the protein every 3 months or so, maybe every other time I’m using use on my hair. However, the Olaplex I try to do a monthly treatment. You’ll have less lost proteins if your building the bonds up stronger. I’ve noticed a tremendous amount of healing using this product. My hair hasn’t been this healthy in YEARS.
      Good luck!!!!!

Aphogee 2 Step works to replace protein, and it works on the outside of the hair shaft. Olaplex is a bond builder and works on the inside of the hair shaft. The hair requires protein and moisture to be healthy. Olaplex will bond the hair and allow it to absorb the protein and moisture better, as well as allowing color to be better deposited in the hair.

Protein treatments are temporary. But Olaplex AKA bond building is permanent. So Olaplex is more beneficial to put your coin in. Which is why it's more expensive. Because it's not temporary like protein treatments

Btw, you wash before applying Aphogee Protein treatment (for best results use a chelating shampoo to remove previous product build up). So wash, then Aphogee…hood dryer is best, rinse & re-rinse, apply deep penetrating conditioner or Balancing Conditioner, cover w/plastic cap allow to set for at least 15-20 minutes, rinse well. Lightly oil, Dry & style as usual. (ALWAYS minimizing heat and over-manipulation). Your next 2-3 shampoos & conditionings should be a moisturizing one. Repeat the process. Your hair AND scalp will be strong and healthy. Also, Biotin supplements help and a great multi-vitamin OR prenatal supplement! AND make sure your iron levels are within a healthy range. Iron deficiency anemia will cause hair loss if severe enough. It will take 6-12 months to restore your hair but positive results should be noticed almost immediately. Like less hair loss/shedding when washing or combing. Hope this helps.

These DO help colored hair, I use both n both r REALLY good. They both definitely made a difference for me especially Olaplex. I regularly bleach my dark hair blonde/other light colors so my hair is EXTREMELY fucked up, split all the way up but it actually feels really good. I use Olaplex every shower, n the aphogee maybe once a month. I also use a BUNCH of other stuff, I put like 3masks/leave ins after I shower n before I dry n straighten. N after I straighten I use brigeo castor oil n that makes my "fly aways" n ends look less shitty

What I like to do is apply olaplex no1 to link those broken bonds, then wash my hair with shampoo ( once the bonds are mended, shampoo won't break them lol) then apply my aphogee 2 step then rinse and apply olaplex no2. And my hair feels almost virgin.
I do this on my curly clients that want their curl pattern back and the results are unbelievable.
Anyway, usually when hair is chemically damaged, protein is needed and bonds need to be mend together. Both work in synergy.

I'm just gonna say... I use Olaplex because I like to color my own hair. The no. 3 has the least amount of the disulfide bond builder complex because it is meant for a more daily strengthening use. If you are going to do a treatment...you should use the GOLDEN colored liquid. (No 1) Take 1oz and add 3oz of water to it and use THAT as a treatment.
But if your hair is need of protein, go with aphogee!!

    • @lblincoe2094

I agree that the No1 is much more effective than No3, and it definitely should be as it's intentionally manufactured to be the more intense product. However, No1 isn't available for the public to purchase.
There are certainly a lot of places you can purchase "black market" Olaplex, but there's no way to know that what you're getting is an authentic product. If given the choice between a potentially fake No1 that isn't going to offer any benefit at all, or an authentic No3 that's guaranteed to contain the active ingredient, you're better off just purchasing the No3.

I wasn't sure which I liked best when I used them either. Aphogee made my hair feel stronger, but I couldn't seem to hold moisture afterwards. My hair is ombre, so my ends are very light bleach blonde & my curls were looked frayed. I actually used them at the same time. I used the aphogee, then the balancing conditioner, of course. Then instead of washing, I used the olaplex & left it in for about an hour. Then washed, conditioned & deep conditioned. The process took a long time, but my hair feels completely rejuvenated. It's soft, shiny & my curl pattern on the ends looks just like the virgin hair on the rest of my hair which I haven't colored. It was honestly the best results I've had using aphogee. 😍🙌 I do like olaplex on it's own, it does make your hair shiny.

I use Olaplex for hair strenthening. I only use a small dab on my hair and leave it in, so I don't think it's meant to be used up in only a couple of uses. It would make my short hair greasy and stiff which is not a good look. Maybe black hair requires more but a half bottle seems excessive. I will say that I would not trust Amazon's version of Olaplex because stylists have told me that those formulas are not as effective because it's meant to be a professional use product. I would compare it to over the counter Benadryl vs. prescription strength. I take two to mimic the prescription version.
I do trust the version I bought from my stylist and like it alot. I am having less strands coming out during wash and combing.

The NYChick (forgive me girl for getting that wrong) nailed it spot on if you follow her 2-3 threads. Olaplex has a site and an app that they allow non stylists to load and learn and even ask questions. The last thing they want is for you to lose that crown!
It’s awesome you wanna share and that is pure love for the world....it’s just that there is so much misinformation out there that is like a bad game of telephone tag. Take a look at her thread, load the Ola app and keep learning doll and definitely keep sharing the word, just share the right info. Wrong info....people will run with it as gospel and end up with problems and blame you, the nature of humans, sadly.

How often did you use each of them? I’ve had major damage after bleaching my hair at a hair salon and I’m trying to save the hair I didn’t cut... advise needed ASAP!

My hair is natural and curly. But in the front of my hair I have some completely straight pieces. Will these help my curls come back?

Do olaplex on dirty wet hair and than do the other treatment to enhance the olaplex, I do the same but in Italy there's no aphogee instead I use something very similar.

      What product do you use?

Why on dirty hair? Do you want the natural oils in your hair to be there before applying? Would adding coconut oil before e treatment have the same impact ?

I think the Olaplex " use on dry hair" does not apply to naturals that use oils. I can't imagine any product working effectively after using a Shea butter

If you are deciding between Olaplex and Aphogee, pick Olaplex.
Olaplex is wayyyy better than Aphogee! Its like comparing collagen and protein powder. Olaplex gets to the "bone of the hair" giving you bouncy flexible elastic strong hair. Aphogee just made my hair hard which made it break and snap. Olaplex No1+2 or No3 (or all) should be a staple in every relaxed girls regimen.

you can shampoo and condition after the olaplex treatment it says so on the instructions. some ppl just choose to do it after shampooing or on cleaner hair. just a preference

I saw the difference right away. Olaplex made her hair look alot better than the other side.
    One step she had results.

Such an annoying comment. She said that in the video. And both are strengthening products so why can't she compare 😩

    • @kathleenadeshoga8415
      @kathleenadeshoga8415 3 года назад

@@patb2582 because they strengthen the hair in different ways. it's more appropriate to compare 2 bond rebuilders and 2 protein treatments side by side. not a protein treatment vs a bond rebuilder

    Olaplex wins!

    • @nikovanegas2735
      @nikovanegas2735 5 лет назад +7

      Depends on what.
If your hair needs serious protein. (After bleaching the hell out of your hair) olaplex won't replenish that lost protein.
Olaplex is like insurance for your hair, it will protect it from mechanical, chemical and probably heat damage. It will mend the bonds but it won't add the lost protein.
In this case aphogee for the win.
I do believe both of them are amazing products and it's fantastic to have both as both work in synergy.

These are very different treatments, very seldom does natural hair need rebuilding treatments ,hair that has been compromised by relaxers colors dominicans etc..Somethings are better left to licensed professionals .I'm so sick of random ppl making videos ,all I can say is a hard head makes a bald head🙄😶🙄

Let them live their life, you shouldn't be concerned on what people do to their hair, if they fuck up, more money for you.
I hate that bs about being bitter because it wasn't by a professional.
