Hi - man here... great to hear you all talk. I think Olympians are known (as of course with Dame Kelly) because when we watch the olympics we see men and women in the same tournament with equal TV time. So names like Faith Kipyegon, Genzebi Dibaba, Laura Muir, Alyson Felix, Sha'Carri Richardson etc are well known because they have those cameras on them at mass media events like the Olympics. Viewing numbers for Womens world cup were encouraging . As with Dame Kelly, when an athlete has that exposure they become legendary for life - it didn't hurt that she achieved an almost impossible feat wining both the middle distance classics - something never done. At that very top level in my country (Australia) many of our top female legends are universally loved and recognised. Dawn Frazer, Raelene Boyle, Cathy Freeman, Marjorie Jackson, Betty Cuthbert, Sally Pearson etc. But it's that next level down where the media attention dries up. That's inter-club where the difference in crowd attendance between men and women will really be noticed. A club game in AFL for example will draw 80000 in the mens but maybe only 10,000 in the moments if that. That's about building interest in juniors amongst all fans, not just players and families. I think at airtime the womens and mens games should always be back to back and alternate start times so there's a chance of audience capture at peak viewing times. I've coached girls and boys and my daughter was a runner at national level. Miss those days. All the best - always great to see Kelly out and about. What a legend.
