For anyone wondering the Australian women’s soccer team is called the Matildas because of a vote that took place on Australian tv. One of the choices was “Matildas” after a song called “Waltzing Matilda” which is basically slang for traveling with a tent-like portable shelter. Soooo basically Sam was (sorta) right
Kelly really impressed me a lot! She could easily control the pace of the interview and ask some questions properly and she indeed has a lot of talents to be an interviewer, good job on her!
Sam Kerr really is so sweet, humble and unassuming... but yes, as Kelly said, "cold-blooded" incredibly talented on the field. Let's her play do the talkin'... no airs/arrogance which is really refreshing.
This interview is so awesome... it's cool that Kelley (who is a terrific athlete/footballer in her own right) unabashedly shows her admiration for Sam's abilities/prowess. Sam Kerr is the shit and really doesn't act like it. She's ELITE but seems a little shy talking about herself. Once upon a time I took a state development team to a national tournament in Australia (Steph Catley was on our team). Sam was on the opposition, would have been 16, and I just remember standing on the sideline and having her run past and thinking "holy shit." she was amazing and absolutely terrifying and you just knew.
This has to be the best interview with Sam Kerr that I’ve seen, I know it’s an year old, but thanks for sharing. Yes Perth has the best beaches, female sport in this country is booming due to the Matilda’s and our cricket team, now with the expansion of AFL & NRL for women, Aussies just love sport & our sport stars. Sam keep some time after soccer to play for the Eagles AFLW team, they could do with some help.

What a great interview. Sam politely omitted to mention that the Matildas' coach was sacked just two months before the 2019 World Cup because of a "major indiscretion".

What is a Matilda?
Matilda is an old Teutonic female name meaning "mighty battle maid". This may have informed the use of "Matilda" as a slang term to mean a de facto wife who accompanied a wanderer. In the Australian bush a man's swag was regarded as a sleeping partner, hence his "Matilda".
Sam was close about it being a bag lol
