So much love for the tabletop VFD games, they really were the closes thing you could get to a home arcade unit as a kid in the 80/90s. Thanks for showing us this one, especially since it was one I never owned.
Some marvellous minced oaths here: "You...pillocking...bum-satchel." Don't want to get demonetised! Also, love to Beatrice, who has clearly got the skill of being creatively annoying just as well as my cat. I would send his love too, but he'd probably try to eat her.
BEATRICE is adorable. I like when her whiskers keep randomly appearing while you're playing: and you angrily cursing her out. Of course, she knows you love her.
My dog, a German shepherd, was fixated with your rat during the whole video. Thank you for sharing. I didn't know this machine, but it brings me memories of electronic toys from my childhood (yes, I am that old)...
Being born in 81 I remember loads of games like this being brought into school on toy days...The thing I always remember about these machines is finding the joysticks and buttons really painful to use.
Clearly what happens is there's a man on top of one of those skyscrapers inexplicably throwing tables at a helicopter. I can only assume Dwayne Johnson will play him in the movie adaption.
Decided to do a 5 year Anniversary channel marathon so here is my HI to try and make the algorithm be nice. Fun and great no matter how many times i have watched them.
Happy Thanksgiving Octavius, I know it's a yank thing, but I'm thankful for the content you provide. Hopefully your life outside of London rids you of all your unnecessary stresses and allows you to follow your passions.
Well at least one person in this video seems to be in love with super cobra copter. Also if the ramp up from level 1 to 2 is that extreme, i never want to see level 4.
Ooohh I love VFD games! Fran Blanche recently looked at a Zaxxon mini arcade machine, which was super cool and used two VFDs in a really interesting way. If you think the difficulty ramp up on this is hard, you should see that Zaxxon game! And Beatrice is just doing her best to be like those game show prize models, whose job it is to gesture at all the fancy features of the prize. She can't help it if her favourite feature is a particularly tasty adhesive!
Ever since I found out what a Vacuum Fluorescent Display is I keep looking out for them everywhere, just love the way they look and the greenish glow. Your rat is rather lovely too though.
Hi from Tasmania Australia, love your channel, I have an old Tron game in my collection like this from back in the day, it’s a shame Tandy are no longer around over here.
Interesting as it was the Gakken Super Cobra game that I had. I loved it and still do. It was a great game and put other games like Astro Wars and Firefox F-7 to shame imo.
I used to love these vacuum fluorescent games as a kid especially the tomy space invaders binoculars. Never saw this one back then but it looks good for what it is.
Sweet game! Kinda reminds me of a toy of the same effect except it was a racing game and the background wasn't digital but an actual canvas that rolled on two pins. There was no losing only the feeling of actually driving. Had a turbo throttle that made the background move faster. Had great car sound effects. It was the poor man's portable arcade of a racing game.😅
Orks usis gubbins all da zoggin time!! wen da gubbins un da worky bits comes togeva dats wen yous as da maykins of a propa WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!
I've actually watched this several times, partly for the interesting review of an old electronic game but mostly for ratty cuteness. More animals in video game vids please. :D
Bloody hell, I had one of these in my youth, probably the best vfd game from the time (although that 2 player space invader one or the digdug clone one comes close). I used to be able to clock it on one life.
Its funny how we have come full circle recently I have started seeing retro games like tetris and pacman being released with screens just like this one on (color wise) on a mini arcade machine. Either way cool video and thanks for sharing 😁 keep doing what you love and I'll keep watching 😎
I would have loved this game as a kid back in the 80's...hell, I'd play it right now! Also, Beatrice pretty much stole this episode, the lil darlin'. 🐁
If this is like the Astro Wars game that I used to have, the actual display is tiny and there is a magnifying lens in front of it. The display bit of the case has to be that big to get the lens in the right place. Also, I think Beatrice wants her own youtube channel.
Only played this once... on a last day of term in juniors school when everyone used to be allowed to bring a toy in for the play day. . Does that even happen nowadays?
Fantastic stuff, I've always loved VFD games, my only problem with collecting them is storage space, so I only have 2 that I've had since I was a little thing, and those are the 2 player PacMan, and Q-Bert, so instead of VFD games I've been into collecting TV Plug N' Play games as they usually take up less space, and I get more play value out of them when they have more than one game on the system, meaning it's easier to justify the shelf space.
Awesome review, I really miss the old consoles (though I had only a few when I was a kid). Sorry to say this but hearing you go mental and panicking is so damn adorable and cute, loved it every second (not in a weird way ... right?)
Cute Beatrice, rat's are into everything I'm amazed my first rat Sly didn't electrocute himself chewing my PlayStation power cord, he was a escape artist mind sometimes I had no idea how he got out!, Hopefully you and Beatrice is okay.
"Get out of my bra. Please." Oh man if I had a nickel for every time I've said that.
I think Beatrice wants to be a more integral part of your channel.
I want Beatrice to be a more integral part of the channel too.

And now, Beatrice is dead. She was old, ill and had to be put down. :(
So much love for the tabletop VFD games, they really were the closes thing you could get to a home arcade unit as a kid in the 80/90s. Thanks for showing us this one, especially since it was one I never owned.

Yeah, that's a phrase I'm going to try to remember!
Beatrice is a beautiful little cinnamon roll that's too good for this world.
BEATRICE is adorable. I like when her whiskers keep randomly appearing while you're playing: and you angrily cursing her out. Of course, she knows you love her.
I could listen to your captivating voice for hours!
"Oh my god fshshsshs what the fuck was that" as yes. Magically angelic.
My dog, a German shepherd, was fixated with your rat during the whole video.
Thank you for sharing. I didn't know this machine, but it brings me memories of electronic toys from my childhood (yes, I am that old)...
Beatrice peeking up from behind the console is too cute for words ❤️ Thanks for this video!
Octav1us: "Let's try this again from an angle I can actually see"
Beatrice: "NO"
Today I learnt what a 'gubbins' is!
I learned what a "pillocking bum satchel" is, and I am stealing the phrase and going to work it into more conversations.
Being born in 81 I remember loads of games like this being brought into school on toy days...The thing I always remember about these machines is finding the joysticks and buttons really painful to use.
I was born in '85, so to me they were sort of these odd pre-NES artifacts that were sometimes extremely cool!
Clearly what happens is there's a man on top of one of those skyscrapers inexplicably throwing tables at a helicopter.
I can only assume Dwayne Johnson will play him in the movie adaption.

This is super cool! Never knew about the VFD games like this until both you and Nostalgia Nerd showed them off. Also, Beatrice is adorable.
The red Gauge on the left is your fuel that slowly ticks down, you gotta shoot the red base looking things, they're fuel tankers, to refuel.
You getting flustered with the game is one of the most entertaining and relatable things. Cheers.
This was one of my favorite games as a kid. Thanks for making this video!
Well at least one person in this video seems to be in love with super cobra copter. Also if the ramp up from level 1 to 2 is that extreme, i never want to see level 4.
I'm glad this channel came in to my life.
I have this some place, and now I want to find it to play it.
Stuff like this blew us 80s kids' minds.
Oh my god, your reaction to the second level almost killed me.
And Beatrice is too precious!
"Beatrice....piss off!" love it!!
Fine showing from Beatrice the Retro Gaming Rat! Also, I like your nail polish.
Ooohh I love VFD games! Fran Blanche recently looked at a Zaxxon mini arcade machine, which was super cool and used two VFDs in a really interesting way. If you think the difficulty ramp up on this is hard, you should see that Zaxxon game!

Hahaha beatrice was so fasinated with the handheld even though i try to stay away from knock-offs.
I miss good ok shag carpet! Probably one of the best floorings of the 70s! So warm and fluffy in winter.. so not cold like hard wood floors.
My neighbour had this when i was a kid!!
Cool scramble clone imho.
HI KITTY!! :*
"bum satchel" has made my morning.
Beatrice is thinking "is this the new Nintendo console ?" !!
So cute, looked like Beatrice wanted to play the game too.
I used to have one of these! In fact, I probably STILL have one of these buried in my parents loft somewhere!
Ever since I found out what a Vacuum Fluorescent Display is I keep looking out for them everywhere, just love the way they look and the greenish glow.
Your rat is rather lovely too though.
Just wanted to say I love your videos. Keep up the wonderful work!
OMG, I HAD THIS!!!! So many memories.
i had the Entex version when i was a kid (i live in the US), best handheld i played during the '80s
Interesting video as always, the banter with Beatrice was entertaining too. That nail polish looks dope af too, I might need to find some for myself
Hooray! A New Octav1us video featuring Beatrice!!!
Oh man, I remember wasting a lot of time on a really busted up version of this in 1997. I should try and get one again.
Wow, it really is just the Entex Super Cobra with a different VFD and case.
Bless your floof. I have 4 of the blighters. If they want at something, they will genuinely mob you!
"Get out of my bra please!" - Octav1us Kitten 2018
Yay! New Octav1us video. I think Beatrice wanted a turn. ^_-
Myself and my brother had this game as kids. Loved it!
Hi from Tasmania Australia, love your channel, I have an old Tron game in my collection like this from back in the day, it’s a shame Tandy are no longer around over here.
Wow. This looks totally rad.
Gubbins is such a beautiful word, I use it a lot. Plus, Beatrice stole the show!
That rat cracks me up! 😂
Who knew the best Thanksgiving Day dessert would be some gubbins from the early 80s? 😋
Super copter is the name of the Air Wolf tv show in french 😅
Interesting as it was the Gakken Super Cobra game that I had. I loved it and still do. It was a great game and put other games like Astro Wars and Firefox F-7 to shame imo.
Looks awesome! (and tastes nice too, apparently. Beatrice
I like the idea of something chucking around pieces of skyscrapers. But maybe with better graphics. XD
Octav1us darling, you've went supersonic.
Always nice to see your gubbins.
I used to love these vacuum fluorescent games as a kid especially the tomy space invaders binoculars. Never saw this one back then but it looks good for what it is.
This might sound dumb, but I'm glad we're back to the normal style : )
not to mean I don't value the effort, I just like the way you do it on your own
Sweet game! Kinda reminds me of a toy of the same effect except it was a racing game and the background wasn't digital but an actual canvas that rolled on two pins. Best screen size to 'unit' ratio yet! Not enough people use 'gubbins' as a technical term, or employ rats as co-presenters. Top review 🙂

@@utubenoobie01 Ahh, but I don't live in Orksfordshire. 'Gubbins' is a rarity round these parts...
Those sound effects are making me feel warm on this cold, cold night. [Ben]
What a lovely dog you got there!
I used to have a pet rat.... very Ace pet. Saw you and edgy one (larry) on digitiser.....best wishes
Love your videos.
'Wheeee so wangaly' classic quote that should have been on the box! :-)
Aw Beatrice. Think it time I got new rats
I've actually watched this several times, partly for the interesting review of an old electronic game but mostly for ratty cuteness. More animals in video game vids please. :D

My dog went absolutely apeshit went you went high-pitched.
I used to love these kinda games when I was a wee lad
To be honest i'd probably still play this
Its funny how we have come full circle recently I have started seeing retro games like tetris and pacman being released with screens just like this one on (color wise) on a mini arcade machine. Either way cool video and thanks for sharing 😁 keep doing what you love and I'll keep watching 😎
That second level really does come out of nowhere don’t it?
Honesly, best gameplay commentary ever! 😂
I feel a bit guilty for all the working VFD machines I bought from thrift shops and salvaged for parts when I was a kid.
Thanks for another video.
I believe you're "buzz-fu-du-fu!" at the beginning of level 2 was entirely apt and totally justified :)
*your
Badass video and a super cute rat!
I would have loved this game as a kid back in the 80's...hell, I'd play it right now! Also, Beatrice pretty much stole this episode, the lil darlin'. 🐁
Super Cobra is my favourite Konami's shootie-uppie thingie that isn't part of the Nemesis series.
#TeamMSX
Rattos are soo adorable!
I must admit, I was more intrigued by that adorable rat.
3:50 YOUR SCREAM IS SO RELATABLE HAHAHAHAHA
It's clear who the REAL talent is here :D
It kind of reminds me of the arcade game scramble.
Super Cobra was Konami's follow-up to Scramble.
BEATRICE

Also, I think Beatrice wants her own youtube channel.
Beatrice added a nice element! :-D nice review
Aaaaah, Rats and Tat before it was called Rats and Tat. Good times.
It's so pretty! I love VFD games, so much cooler than the LCD versions. And Beatrice is super cute! Glad you're both settling in to your new flat! 😊
Only played this once... on a last day of term in juniors school when everyone used to be allowed to bring a toy in for the play day. . Does that even happen nowadays?
LOL! Let Beatrice have a go...
Kinda reminds me of Harrier Attack on the Spectrum. :)

Super Cobra Copter game -now with free rat!
Here I though I was gonna see a proper recap on some old game tech! Instead I get distracted by a rat
Beatrice sure likes that glue. :)
Yay, I love you Beatrice :3 also you should review the Guitar Hero On Tour games
"Get out of my bra please" lol
