Orange Amp Speaker Replacement

- In this video I install and test the new speaker of my Orange Crush 35RT amplifier. I bought a replacement speaker directly from Orange Music Electronic Co. to replace to original speaker that had an awful buzzing sound. The part number for this speaker is: PT-SPKR-CR35-4
I can't believe I've never thought of doing this. I have kicked around the idea of cannibalizing my crush 12 and turning it into a tiny portable head unit but this seems more practical.
Honestly but that voice of the world speaker is the shittiest part of the whole amp. Sounds like a totally different amp if you have a greenback or a Texas Heat laying around.
I slipped in a 10' in my 94 Fender Bronco...mind blowing!!
So, I figured out how to remove the amp from the cabinet.
1. First unscrew the screws on the back. Only unscrew the ones at the left and right edge (and the bottom edge if there are some there), not any of the ones in the middle.
2. Unscrew the handle screws enough that you can see some threads.
3. Apply pressure to those screws while they are still installed. I actually had the handle off, so I threaded the screws back in and then pushed down.
This will release the foam seal that is just sticking by stiction to the cabinet. You only need to push the screws down until you feel the foam unstick. At that point it is easy to wiggle the amp out of the cabinet.
Thanks for this info. Ran into this problem just now. I’m going to wire an out put jack for a 4 ohm cab by separating the speaker from the lead wires coming from the amp.
nice tip. saved me a lot of time.
Thanks!
I have both the Crush 12 and the 20.
Amazing amps, no doubt!
But...
The 6" speaker on the Crush 12 simply isn't capable of handling the power of this little tone monster. I was curious about hooking a speaker jack to the speaker wires and connecting another cabinet.
I wasn't sure how the speaker was attached; hard-wired, etc.
Your video was very helpful in that it showed the amp's interior and most importantly how the speaker was attached.
Thanks.
Glad my video has provided a public service. I have three or four 35RT Crush amplifiers - and have gigged them in the past at bars. Great amps - love the 10" speaker in a closed back enclosure.
Theoretically, any combo amp can get an output jack added. It goes between the speaker and the amp circuit so you're not affecting any part of the amp itself by adding am output.
I love my CR120c 2x12 the way it is.
The. Orange VOTW 12" speakers are great V-30ish. The Crush Pro likes to be pushes so high channel vol and good mix of max vol the speakers break up and its warm and punchy and crisp. These Crush Pro's are very tube like. The CR120 is the same amp as the Rockerverb but uses opamp's instead of tubes.
Do you think it would be possible to replace the 8ohm 60 watt speakers with 16ohm 75 watt speakers? I have the exact same amp and I want to change them out for G12T-75 speakers, but I don’t know if it will overload my CR-120C
@Scaids you will be fine and your amp won't be as loud so you can turn it up louder with the 2 of the 16hm
Just wondering if you leave off the last black enclosure part of the back box.. will it open up the sound a bit? Let some of the air move through it not so compressed? I’ve seen some fender broncos done like that and people swear by them
Yes it helps open up but the speaker is designed to hit a cabinet.
I have the 35rt and i opened it up but just half way . Sounds a bit stereo
mine has a buzz but i cant tell if the cabinet is vibrating i can get some sweet sounds almost sounds like a tube amp
Hello, I have a 35pixLDX and it has some distortion bleed into the clean channel when I use the effects I believe. I don’t know anything about amps or electrical engineering. Do you think you could point me in the right direction to fix this issue?
could you fit a 12" speaker inside?
Thats my question too
Yo which tab is positive and which is negative? There’s a red line on one side but is that the hot side?
My 35rt has a buzz too on the clear channel but it’s only at a certain volume with medium gain. And it’s only noticeable with one of my 🎸s. I wonder if the pickup isn’t grounded well
In your case its the guitar same happens to me with other cheap guitars i have. Not the 35rt.
Hey man, I have an orange crush bass 25 and is really dirty. How can I clean this? I tried to open it but I couldn't :((.
The breather....is calling.. .
I just bought an Orange Crush 20Rt for $20. It's in brand new condition. When I power tested the amp, right away I noticed a humming noise that is just there, unaffected by volume/tone knobs. No guitar sound output, simply a hum, even when nothing is connected. I plug headphones in and I'm able to hear the guitar, adjust tone, reverb, etc...so it seems the amp is okay and I may just need a speaker replacement. Do the details add up to be safe to say the speaker has gone out? I've opened up the amp and it's in great condition....BTW you have to pull downward on the amp as it's held to the cabinet on the handle side with an adhesive (glue of some sort) seal. It takes a bit of force but you won't break anything.
A constant hum may be bad capacitors. Mine seem fine on a 20LDX after eight or nine years, but I've heard of others having capacitor failures. Easy to repair if you know electronics, or you can have a tech do the work.
Are you replacing it with the same stock speaker (only in better condition)
yup
Yes, same stock speaker ordered directly through Orange. I got this amp off of eBay for under $100 (I think $90-ish). I didn't want to spend a huge amount of money on the repair. I don't recall exactly, but I think the replacement speaker was around $40.
those voice of the world speakers are rubbish. Orange makes a gold series for their more expensive combos like my Rocker 32 and those are much better, but I'd still prefer some celestion or eminence speakers. I also have the crush 20 for my travel amp and while it's fine in a hotel, it sounds like dookie at home when I have a few 212s being powered by better amps. My solution was to buy a two way toggle switch and a guitar jack, drill two holes in the back of the chassis and wire in an A/B switch so I can use the amp as a head at home. you'd be thrilled with how that amp sounds into a 212, especially the PP212 with the v30s. It costs about 3 bucks to do the mod and of course, it voids your warranty.
Orange encourages voiding one's warranty - so it's okay.
Please tell me more on how u did this mod, or make a video and post links to parts in the description ....
@@isaiahfurrow7414 - I called Orange and ordered a speaker directly from them. I probably showed the part number in this video. Then, I used a screwdriver (and other tools) to open up the case and replace the speaker. I wouldn't consider this a "mod" - just a simple repair. If you're not confident doing this yourself then you might reach out to someone locally who has the skill.
@@isaiahfurrow7414 here is the part number I ordered from Orange around the time I made this vide: PT-SPKR-CR35-4
I have a Crush 20 Pix and the stock speaker sounds like dogshit. I just ordered a 10" Celestion G10N-40 to upgrade. Got it for $30! I'm gonna have to slightly modify the speaker hole to make it fit and add a little extra gasket. If it still doesn't fit, I'm putting the head and speaker into a 10" Kustom combo cab that just happens to fit the head perfectly. I'm so freaking stoked!
how u can contact 2 orange web page ? Im from PERU . Please can u help me with this information? Thank u. I found a celestion eight 15 in the amazon web page but I dont know if this amp speaker is right to my orange amp 35rt like u have in this video.
That was 5 years ago. I believe I visited the Orange website and used whatever contact information was available at the time.
man you ordered another stock speaker? Why?! Get a Greenback or something better.
It was cheap. I think I got the amp off of eBay for around $90. I actually had to fix this amp twice. The internal voltage regulator began to die so I replaced that (for $1 in parts). Here's that video: ruclips.net/video/7rz4VCgv0Hg/видео.html
@@silvermica I think for the same money you could get a warehouse speaker that's better quality than what orange is selling. I don't believe that orange produces speakers, they just order and label them. I love orange amps, but their speaker quality in their lower grade amps is lacking.
@@bonitabromeliads - Yeah, probably. It's just a cheap amplifier. I'll use something else depending upon my needs.
4 ohms?
Yes
Beautiful Dave!
Tai? Is that you?
Aren’t Orange amps 16ohm outputs? Plugging a 4 ohm speaker through a 16ohm output will blow your output transformer. Way more expensive than replacing the speaker.
I bought the correct replacement speaker (part number) - directly from Orange. Also, this is a solidstate amplifier (no output transformer). Moreover, I'm an electrical engineer (BSEE Cal Poly SLO and MSEE SCU - plus 23 years of experience as a design engineer with a dash of management with direct reports). Although, fancy degrees won't guarantee competency - a STEM degree is a great indicator.
@silvermica having said that this amp doesn't have an ouput transformer. What will happen if I change the speaker into 12" 8 ohms 100w? Yes, i want to modify the amp.
My stock Orange speaker in my Crush 35rt says it’s 4 ohms.
That is not the Orange Sound!
it's the little known black-orange sound
Is that 'chazzy' or 'chassis'? 😂😂
unk yeeaaa
It's supposed to be birch plywood cab. This one is particle board ! WTF ? !
Guy replaced a 16ohm speaker w a 4ohm version of the same shitty stock speaker. Good job blowing your transformer lmfao
What? The replacement speaker is the same part number. Also, there is no output transformer.
Mine is junk. Never buy another one
What's wrong with yours? This one had two problems - the speaker and then a regulator inside died. I paid $90 for this amp, then spent $40 on a new speaker, then spent $3 on a replacement regulator. It seems okay now. I have three of these. The other two never had any issues.
@@silvermica volume knob is shot i think and sometimes after unplugging the headphones it wont work and i have to turn it off and on. I havnt even played it that much and definately havnt used the volume knob much
I've had the Crush 20 for several years and love its stock OEM sound. It has it's on sound against the Fender amps I have. I've had no problems with it.
